One of the stand out things for me with people living in a Van is their passion and enthusiasm. I don’t ever remember seeing someone be so enthusiastic about a house they live in 🙏
It had to take a Matt, to tell the clean truth about winter, solar, and van living. Because that it's the reality. After October, there's really nothing to rely on. Thanks guys for delivering quality as always. Woop Woop.
I THINK THIS LAD HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WHEN HE MENTIONED GREAT EXPERIENCES WHEN OUT LIVING IN A VAN! A GREAT WAY TO SOCIALISE AS SEEMS THE POWERS THAT BE DONT WANT THAT IN REALITY THEY WANT YOU SEPERATED AND ARGUING ABOUT SILLY THINGS, SO MAYBE THE START OF A BETTER LIFESTYLE FOR WORKING CLASS PEOPLE TO BREAK THE DEBT CYCLE?
For me, the worst aspect of living in a big van wasn't the finding of water or disposing of rubbish: you find ways of doing both after a while but finding of a safe, quiet and discreet parking space where you can stay for more than 2 days in a row without being spotted was, for me, the most frustrating aspect of van life.
9:00 - putting away, saving, investing is a good idea. It's all look bright and nice when we young, strong and have good job we enjoy. But ... there is a saying: "The only constant in life is change". And with the age we gradually become less capable of quick learning, we not as strong anymore. So I think saving and investing is a good idea.
What a well laid out van, although I would have to have a proper sized bed, that's too small for me. I had a Bedford Ambulance in the early 90's that I converted into a camper. I had a wood burner made from an old calor gas bottle. It worked really well and got super hot. In fact I still have the wood burner and use it now and again. I would suggest instead of buying a house, your man Matt should buy some land. Possibly with a small wood (for timber) and a stream to make electricity from a turbine. That's what I would do in his situation........
At last, someone who tells the truth about how much power you don't get in the winter time!!! I wondered why I wasn't able to get enough power in my van. Now I know why. Wonderful.
@@CamperVan-K have you ever consider buying lifepo4 cells and build a few batteries. lightweight you can really get large battery bank that could last for a month and then recharge on campsite?
@Mymail-z1x I've just looked them up. Lithium? No thanks. Don't want anything to do with that. I think possibly the batteries I do have need to be changed. They are more than 4 years old, so perhaps they're getting old.
@@CamperVan-K lithium and lifepo4 have different chemistry don't get confused. about 2y ago I have build 3 batteries out of 12 cells. that's the best investment I have made. no trickle charge no full charge require. high current charge and discharge 1c. I no longer have solar panels are waste of money. 1000ah 12 cells cost me about 1300 pounds.
@@CamperVan-K The LiFePO4 battery has the edge over lithium, both in terms of cycle life (it lasts 4-5x longer), and safety. This is a key advantage because lithium batteries can overheat and even catch fire, while LiFePO4 does not.
I'm also a full-time software developer but operating out of a much smaller van. Hyundai iLoad. Still managed to fit a 27" computer monitor in! It's a good lifestyle
I did miss my dual screens, but soon adjusted. I actually really like being really lightweight - if I had to set up screens every morning and pack them down every evening, it would become a PITA. The space in the van is a delicate balance between convenience and practicality, and in some areas you make sacrifices.
@@JoyTheConvoy Yeah for sure! I chose to make it as convenient as possible to work so it's a permanently set up monitor. I couldn't handle packing it up every day either so definitely compromises have been made. My kitchen is not nearly as beautiful and spacious. Thanks for commenting :)

Liking the side solar. I need to up my solar big time on my van too as work from my van too and great highlighted the reality of lack of light and power in winter
Been looking for an LDV Convoy for weeks without any luck. Once two a penny now not so many about. Crazy prices now too. Never ever thought I would see the day when LDV Convoy vans people would be asking £4,000-£5,000+ for them. Ridiculous. Lived in one for 7 years as a digital nomad quite a few years ago. Good vans. Basic but rugged and not a huge amount to go wrong with them apart from the dreaded kingpins but as long as they are greased every two months they shouldn't be a problem.
@@TheBillybiker1 Let me know. Must have a long MOT. Don't care about body condition cosmetically, it can have dings and scrapes all over it as far as I am concerned as long as it's mechanically good and drives ok and is reliable.
@@TheBillybiker1 Won't be worth it then. By the time one spends say £1,500 on the van knowing it could cost another £1,000-2,000 to get it through the MOT before any money is spent on the conversion which could easily cost another couple of thousand total it up and for that kind of money you can buy a 5 year old van with a long MOT already on it with a much higher spec that ultimately will be much cheaper to run.
I managed to dodge any issues with the pins for quite a while, and greased them 2 or 3 times a year, but alas, eventually it was my time. I had them done in the spring.
very nice layout love it. I am nomad too to takle power shortage I bought 1000ah lifepo4 cells and build three 12v batteries which last 7days without any topup charge.
Had one of these vans it was great but just a heads up on a couple of things that might prolong its life for you . The ECU mounted on the right hand ,cab side of the bulk head is vulnerable to water leaks around windscreen sealing rubber which are notoriously prone to cracking/leaking at the corners ,ie - water into the ECU😞. Sounds like you have the skill set to deal with it but a bit of protection around it might save some hassle ! Happy camping !😊
Hey Pete. This is why I went for the 2.5di, no ECU to worry about and a mechanical pump - had that rebuilt last year too. First thing I did when I got it was dealt with the leaks in the bulkhead and the panels around the bonnet and the mirrors, thanks to Vandog's blog, I knew just what to tackle first! Had kingpins done in the summer too!
Good work! I suffered all the things you managed to avoid apart from the kingpins which formed a firm friendship with the grease gun !! The MOT guy said that the Convoys were generally much better than the Transits " rot wise " which was encouraging . Shame I didn't see the Vandog blog !!😅
