Lyle and Tector Gorch’s relationship reminds me of times spent with my younger brothers. Bruises, blood, and even a few broken bones. But if you so much as looked at any of my younger brothers funny.😯
I’m glad you enjoyed the cowboy vampires. Sometimes the best way to enjoy this show is to be able to sit back and enjoy the camp, and your delighted laughter at the sillier aspects of this show brings me joy, heh
Sixth Sense? Naw, no reflection in the mirror-like surface on the opposite side of the escalator. Lyle Gorch! Not Gorged! You have a dirty mind...and I am here for it! The Gorch Brothers were great! I feel kinda sorry for Tector...he was just saying hello to the bezoar, and it was rude and killed him!
So many reactors miss that he doesn’t have a reflection. I think one even thought the girl had a twin. Maybe it has something to do with how they made the mirror effect that the mirror is not apparent?
@@JabberwockyReacts I’d have to rewatch the scene to be sure. My guess is they didn’t use a mirror. Either they flipped the image and had him duck down or used a twin for the girl or something like that. But Buffy is looking at the pair to one side and the girl is by herself on the other. But an actual mirror would have glass, be slightly dimmer, panes with visible edges, sometimes waviness, etc. I don’t think those things are there so it’s not as obvious that the solo girl is a reflection. I can’t say if I noticed it the first time. Saw it so long ago and I’ve seen it so many times. And so many reactions to it, I have no memory of my initial reaction. I know there’s plenty of things I know I’ve missed that I never noticed until it was pointed out in reaction comments. 😊
The dynamite comment was great! I once had a t-shirt, a gift from one of my brothers, that said "There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved by a suitable application of high explosives." Heh - it was funny, but not really. There are too many things getting blown up that shouldn't be... I think this one is an homage to the classic movie "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers." I agree, telling Joyce would change things a bit. In some ways it would make Buffy's adventures justifiable. But at the same time, as Joyce, if you learned a middle-aged British librarian was putting your only child in mortal danger fighting supernatural creatures on a nightly basis...would you stay in Sunnydale?!? Or would you try to take her somewhere safe? I think that's one of the things they're worried about, but there could be other worries. Perhaps they've had situations in the past where the truth became known and it didn't go well. Or, given the nature of the Council, perhaps it is just one of the ways they keep Slayers under their control...
While I love S2 and consider it one of my favororite seasons, what keeps it from being my top favorite season are episodes like these, the ones that still feel like they were written for S1. I don't consider this anywhere near the worst episode of the series, but it isn't as entertaining as it could be considering the plotline. It did, however, give the writer a permanant job on the series, so there is that.
On the subject of westerns & brothers, I don't know - did Jesse James have a brother? I feel like that's the only famous old west person I can think of who might have had a brother committing crimes with him, but I'm too tired to actually look it up right now.
Definitely one of the worst episodes of the Buffyverse (there are a handful in contention for the title) The remarkable thing is that even in the worst episodes... there are moments of fun. Right at the staart, Buffy notices that the cowboy guy isn't reflected in the mirror. Those little flourishes are so cool, especially on rewatches :P I also strongly dislike the "secret identity" shtick. But I think it's more of a "playing the trope" than any real justification for it. I don't actually think it's justified most of the time it is used, it's simply a way to create drama. The best uses are always when the secret identity is about evading the law than "protecting people" It REALLY works in Daredevil, bc it has weight. Here, as with so many "superhero" uses, it serves no other purpose than to drive misunderstandings. Useful for storytelling, useful to represent real relationships between parents and teens... but doesn't REALLY make internal sense.
Buffy being a total teenager/child is so glaringly loud in this episode, and yet we're supposed to swoon over the relationship between her and the adult man, who also clearly sees it yet continues on with her 🤢
This episode is one of the reasons I question people that say season 2 is their favourite lol Great story arc, still some very questionable monster of the week.
I think this might be bottom 5 for me. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers doesn't fit into the Buffyverse and the vampire brothers are not interesting.
Possibly one of the worst episodes of the series. A real filler to be honest. There are 144 episodes of BTVS they all can't be brilliant, however the E13 and E14 two parter to follow are superb, absolute bangers. Obviously this episode is a homage to 1950s classic horror film Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Not much more to really say about this, so much better to come.
for me the are far worse episodes that this one "never kill a boy on the first date" is top of that list for me for sure, that would rank the 144th for me lol
This episode gets a lot of hate from Buffy fans, I always really enjoy this epiosde and take it for what it is, for me its way way way better than an episode like "never kill a boy on a first date" ( that might just be the fact Owen looks twenty years older than he is playing lol)

The Gorch brothers were also two outlaw brothers in the 1969 Sam Peckinpah movie, The Wild Bunch.
Hilariously, just as the vid got to *that* egg moment, it cut to a commercial for Cadbury's Cream Eggs 🤣
I shall never be able to eat one again.
🤮
Really glad you liked the Gorch brothers because I do too. Most of the fandom thinks they're 'meh' but I think they're silly in the best way.
They were the highlight of this episode 100%

@@zemoxian yeah, I think that's it. Some folks do catch it while editing the video later I think.
I didn't catch that at all - not even in editing! I'll have to go back and peak at it, wonder why it goes under the radar so much!

Plumbella cameo!! lmao now I want a collab
There is a Hellmouth directly beneath the school though...
Jabberwocky, you're hilarious! Great edits. And, apparently, the greatest of all time at skeeball, too.
The part about just telling her mother ...... you'll learn much, much .... much later, why she's reluctant. 😊

Too be fair you could say the same about any season of the show they all have monster of the week episodes
@@chrisallen19821982 Not saying the monster of the week itself is the bad part. I do enjoy that. But this one is pretty bad
I think this might be bottom 5 for me. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers doesn't fit into the Buffyverse and the vampire brothers are not interesting.
Donald Sutherland was in the '78 version of Body Snatchers. So there is a Buffy connection, with the '92 Buffy movie, that is.
