LVMH just feeling like L'Oreal can't have all the fun. In beauty we know once (esp black) businesses get bought by L'Oreal they will become noticeably worse 😂😂😂 "no more coconut oil for you lets add glycerin and some fake carrot seed".

I don’t blame a lot of these designers. I know how stressful it is to work in fashion and most brands are one season away from folding. It’s understandable if Bernard Arnault swoopes in with a multi million dollar deal and promises of growing the business. That’s probably their first sight of financial stability.
Too bad Bernard Arnault doesn’t stay true to his promises, Celine Vapiana had to learn that the hard way.

no one should ever assume small brands can run on passion and fumes (because as you said that's *most* of them) forever. Or that they want to.
Given the general cost of living has gone up everywhere, would _you_ turn down money on a gold plate?
that said, the name is now harshly ironic. what great news.

I feel Kapital will be split up into 2 brands Kapital Japan and Kapital global, so the Japanese consumers will still have Kapital that are 100% made in Japan but outside Japan it's still made to a high quality and the denim stock is still from but most likely the assembling is done in Tunisia, Italy, Türkiye or somewhere in Asia.

If the existing owners agree on the terms, especially knowing the history, that means they are okay with whatever comes and hence it is fully in line with the values of the brand. No one is putting a gun to their head to sell.

I've been an avid supporter of Kapital for around 8 years now and one of the things that drew me to the brand was that every piece felt unique or special. You got the feeling a real person was involved with the craftsmanship behind each garment. While I'm happy for Kiro for getting that LVMH endorsement and money, I can't help but worry about the potential loss of that personal craftsmanship feel. I also worry about prices getting jacked up even more for what will probably be sub-par products compared to what they've been doing. I sincerely hope they keep manufacturing in Japan and stay true to the brands way of doing things but knowing LVMH I do not have high hopes at all. Time to stock up on more pre LVMH Kapital now I guess.

4:18 could you elaborate on what you mean by unskilled workers? I'm sure i'm not as familiar as you with apparel manufacturing but I thought it was something that requires skill at any level.

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Basically what i'm alluding to is, there is a level of craft that is passed down from generation to generation. Some of these skills take years and years to master, this is why haute couture is a dying art because of the few people that have the skills to handcraft to that level and this number will only reduce further as there is less need for it. In Japan there are shoemakers going on generations, in Italy there are leather tanners, in Turkey there are jewellers etc.
There is a huge amount of knowhow, skill and knowledge that comes from doing these things to the highest level which is why it is normally expected that these craftspeople choose this profession for life. It's why Hermes is struggling to meet the demand for the Birkin bag because it's so hard to actually train people to that standard. - th-cam.com/video/ah2eAynWzEg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wDO7mzx2mTGdrt4q
What big conglomerates like LVMH do is they go to low cost labour markets, train them a little (just enough for the products to be usable) and then they churn out as many products as humanly possible. They are never given time to develop on their craft and they are always overworked. This is why they never become truly skilled artisans. The products that have defects (of which there will be many) end up in outlets or destroyed but the companies don't care because it doesn't affect their bottomline much.

I'm kind of confused by this. If Kaptial really believed in the ethos of quality design and manufacturing, why sell to LVMH?! Why bother to be so exclusive in their distribution for all these years just to sell out to LVMH? If they don't care about money why sell?! The brand will effectively die.

LVMH slurps the soul out of every brand it touches. There will come a time when the cool kids reject anything LVMH because they can see right through it. It will be a distaste similar to the distaste for "industrial plants" in music.

I disagree about quality going down when LVMH buys something. We have seen fendi, celine and loewe invest in higher quality materials. Loro Piana quality doesn't seem to be going down either. Yes canvas bags aren't what they were before, but the quality and investment in higher quality leather. Im a CA at LV, and I've observed that the MRTW of Pharrell is sturdier than Virgil's pieces. I don't believe that LVMH will outsource production, rather they will allow access of KAPITAL to use materials and supply chains of LVMH.
LVMH rather seems to expand the offering of products than cut costs (which although does happen). Eg I think LVMH would probably add say a bag line for Birkenstocks than to outsource their production.
If anything the worst point would be the price hikes.

I wouldn’t particularly say that Loro Piana & Loewe quality is fantastic but I can agree with Celine.
I made a video not too long ago about some Loro Piana shoes that are terribly made. Despite Loro Piana being known for superior textiles, the brand still cuts corners on the construction side (like bad quality hardware) and has expanded too quickly into creating different product categories like footwear that they don’t specialise in. They have done this too quickly in my opinion just to increase profit despite clearly not having the expertise or personnel to make footwear to a high standard. The same can be said about Loewe, especially in the footwear department as well, so many of their heels snap. A lot of these brands invest in quality for the runway / specialty pieces but the core product is what is outsourced to low labour markets using unskilled overworked workers which I find concerning because the core product is what they’re going to sell and produce more than the runway / specialty pieces. I have experience with some of Pharrell’s runway pieces at LV and they’re definitely good quality but how much of his runway looks are produced and bought VS leather bags where consumers can’t stop complaining about how bad the quality can
be. Here is a good dissection of how LV bag quality is not exceptional: th-cam.com/video/bd5EZ77bZpI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I3mDVwH9C3lcEf9d
Behind the scenes (so I can’t mention the name of the brand) I actually do consulting for a brand that specialises in leather goods with its own factory. The quality of leather that this brand uses is significantly better than most mainstream luxury brands I know of, yet it’s at a lower price point.
Just yesterday I posted a video about LVMH practices with a lot of their factories which was especially concerning Dior (a brand you didn’t mention), Dior has definitely suffered in the quality department over the years due to LVMH. Another brand LVMH has a stake in “Phoebe Philo” uses loads of Viscose blends instead of 100% high grade silk and wool. I could go on…

@@FashionRoadman how much can we really determine that these bad reviews reflect a significant majority of the experience that customers have with these brands? Im not a fan of Loro Piana as i am more of a maximalist, but few items falling past quality control do happen. Ive seen it happen with every brand including hermes. As production of scale happens, the chances of seeing products with substandard production does happen.
I've seen the video, but Tanner seems to praise the bag than anything. Does he appraise that the quality is worth the money? No, and I dont disagree. But this is luxury, nothing is worth the money in terms of physical quality. Tanner also creates a video that creates a matrix of price vs quality with these brands. LV was positioned above Polene (A brand known for high quality leather and construction) and Chanel (A brand known to have investment leather pieces) and is brought down because of its entry level canvas pieces. Without their canvas line (which now only accounts for 45% of leather goods sales, and its share continues to decrease year by year) It probably would position between Loewe and Hermes. Which says a lot about LVMH and its investment in quality.
They are increasing their propostion of new exciting leathers to be like hermes like the P9 leather, millisime, taurillion in LV and cuoio romano leather and stingray in Fendi. LVMH owns Heng Long, which is one of the best exotic skin tanneries in the world and produces similar quality to Hermes (which used to use Heng Long).
In that regard, does Kapital Jeans have a scale of demand or expansion that would forsee a decimation of its quality? I doubt it. Yes brands in LVMH some brands have experienced a decrease in quality in some entry level products. Thats one side of the story, but no one talks above the improvements LVMH have done to improve the quality in a wide range of other offerings that arent as accessible/popular. I really suggest that you dig into it, you will be quite intrigued.
