- The Rabbit R1 is an interesting little AI assistant that fits in the palm of your hand. Since launch there has been a ton of negative sentiment surrounding it. I got mine in about 2 weeks ago, and well, people were right. Here's the details.

The company is run by an NFT scammer that promised a carbon negative coin that he never released. Buyer beware.
Coffezilla has just published an investigation about this scam
it really is just a more annoying way to use chatgpt on a smartphone
$200 for chatgpt in a box is crazy!
Except, it's Perplexity, Chat GPT's less Woke sibling. For those of us that have had our fill with the Marxist Gender Identity cult religion of Queer Pedagogy, this little box is amazing. The last thing I want my AI assistant to do is lecture me about pronouns or constructed "knowledge". I just want the objective facts. Chat GPT just can't help itself, and dribbles on about the tenets of Critical Marxism.
@@Objectivityiskey It's actually both perplexity and chatgpt. They have a prompt pre-baked that explicitly says not to say it's chatgpt.
My biggest question after watching
How did the shirt get wet?
despite this being the 3rd or 4th review I've seen of this device, your firm statement of "It's not a product." is possibly the most damning conclusion I've heard
Honestly an Apple Watch or the Pixel Watch can do better than this device. If AI is added to those.... then its game over.
I think r1 makes its money off TH-camrs buying just to trash it lol
This device is the perfect replacement for a local politician. It lies when it doesn't know the answer, it always say "no" to anything that would benefit you. And in case it actually answers a question, it makes sure to be as longwinded as possible, because it loves to hear its own voice.
if you think it as a luxury toy, it suddenly becomes make sense
Pissed, I have tried to return it 5 times. they keep saying they will send me a return label; however, they never send it. Unscrupulous company not backing their product.
Woooow just woooow.
So even the seller on AliExpress are more trustworthy.
Same. Did you ever get a return label?
I bought it to teach it, and they took the ability away. 🤷♂️
I'm more excited about the dbrand skin I got for the device than the device itself.
Exactly.
mine is sitting in a drawer unopened because the only reason I bought it was the teach feature.
I was planning to try to program it to run smart home routines, and a few automations in my home lab.
but it doesn’t even have the feature that they advertised at the launch keynote.
@jamescarrico1233 I feel ya. I had projects myself, including streamlining photo and video editing and simple coding jobs, etc. As is, it's useless to me.
looks cute. teenage engineering could sell me a CPAP machine if the colors were nice
Teenage engineering design just too ✨aesthetic✨
As someone who uses a CPAP, sign me up lol
This is probably the least of its issues but is it really appropriate to call it a 360 degree camera, when it only has 2 usage positions, plus stowed one?
It's like we're getting A.I. from 2024 and going all the way back to the early 2000's.
I like my r1. Voice command translator works well in my trials. It even auto detected Cebuano (Visaya). I regularly use the free note taking app for personal meetings.
Don't know if it matters, but at 5:27 you asked it to translate English to Vietnamese but then you spoke to it in Vietnamese (not English)
I just want exactly that, a "CHATGPT" hardware device for fast answers.
I think calling it "just an app" like so many have said is too generous. I think keeping this service on a webpage is more appropriate.
Someone mentioned that they figured this thing was released in its current state because the creators knew that Apple and Google were about to release their versions of AI, so the creators wanted to get this thing on the market and get some people to buy it prior to that happening. Since the Apple and Google AI programs will just be part of your phone (or maybe in an app), the creators know that those programs will have better functionality and will be compatible with things like your contacts and other phone info (which this thing can't do). If they had waited longer to sell this, they'd be outshown by Apple and Google and would probably sell 0 of these things, so they figured it's better to release it with all its flaws early so they can at least make some of their money back.
I would assume that this thing won't make enough of a profit to allow this company to continue doing R&D on it. Or maybe that's wrong - maybe they literally just put ChatGPT in a microchip and 3D-printed a cheap plastic case for it, and they'll make enough money from sales that will allow them to keep improving this thing. Regardless, as long as this thing isn't compatible with your phone (and probably never will be, since Apple and Google have already created their own versions), it will never be good enough or unique enough to be sold as its own separate product.
What a shit-show
you're sweating
That line about training data I feel must be true
7:30 say it louder for the people in the back!
ChatGPT 4o can do most of the things the Rabbit R1 does. Such as answer questions and interpret what you see in pictures.
It's actually just Chatgpt 3.5
Rabbit R1 re-direct requests to ChatGpt 3.5, so 4 O is waaaay ahead.
It’s weird.. since chatgpt translates well
its everything but a phone!
So, glad I never got mine. 😅
Mine is arriving soon and will not open. Plan to auction at Sothebys in 2034 for $400 inflation adjusted.
I’d never heard of this before and now I know why lol. This not being an app and using the way better hardware most of us already have in our pockets is ridiculous. Even smart watches can do better these days 😂. Thanks for the PSA
It genuinely looks like a 3d printed shell with a small Pi computer inside from instructibles.
Who WHO thought they could sell tgis junk ? ....WHO?
I actually think it's very well designed. But the use case is a bit dumb yeah.
DANG IT I THOUGHT IT WAS A PHONE OMG THAT WAS GUNNA BE SO COOL!!!
right at 10 minutes smh
You forgot to mention, the battery life is horrible, also if you want to use it outside of a wifi hot spot you will need to go to a provider to get the Sim data card to use it because it will not work outside of wifi. ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ 🤦♂️
Damn I thought this was gonna be cool… oh well. Maybe it will ba cool after they update it?
You know what....i would buy one 🤷🏻♂️ Love gadget toys even when they are crappy 😅 But I hate prepayment. It would be better if the device was shipped directly. Or would someone from Europe like to sell me one? 😄
Cancelled my order 2 days ago 😵💫
Just canceled mine too
Nope I canceled my r1 after this video. I don‘t have a use case for an AI telling me absolutely wrong things without a single hint of „could be wrong tho“. I mean how can you trust something which tells you 50% wrong answers? This makes it completely useless. I could just use a random text generator instead and use this as my answer.
Where have you been? You still had this thing on order after the past month of it getting utterly lambasted?
banger videos
I love testing new products, and I bought Plaud on pre-sale (one of the first on the hype of AI stuff). That one does what it says on the tin. It is a much simpler product. I have no reason to buy this one and the humane pin. I am starting with the question of which pocket I should put this in, as this does not replace my phone.
I know products in the first generation are usually bad, but those AI products are unusable. It seems like a recent trend; games, apps, and hardware have been launched with very few features and many bugs. I am a product manager and I don't agree with that approach.
How's the plaud treating you? I'd imagine there's tools and automations that could replicate its features but seems like the plaud is much more convenient to keep with you vs the ai pin or r1. This trend of "we'll fix it after" hurts all of us sadly.
Plaud is working great for me.
I needed something to record meetings, calls and put memo notes. That one does that perfectly. And it is super small, attach to the iPhone. There is a subscription, but you can also buy transcription quota instead if you don't use that much (my case). And it launched fully working, and in 3 months they added more features, like a website, so you don't need to work from your mobile.
I am waiting for that to be disrupted by Apple soon, but I think having a small hardware with a dedicated button will still worth it for some use cases.
A hard pass on this thing. In addition to all the flaws you cited it looks like something I would pick up at a dollar store for the kids when they were young (they'd shoot me if I gave this to them now).
Haha. You're not wrong! There's definitely something childish about it. But I enjoy the design in a campy kind of way.
Actually I paid 200 dollars to get a years worth of Perplexity and a free Rabbit R1.
Maybe I’ve been living too long but I can get behind any “Product” that causes other companies to step there game up on their products. (You can’t test seat belts without a crash dummy). So why are we expecting the crash dummy to be smart enough to avoid the crash 💥. lol. This “Product” will cause other “Products” to be better. The AI game is in the first quarter. Why are you wanting the rabbit to be in the 4th quarter. Slow down, take it easy. It will get there in due time. I like the “Product” and the future that it will help force AI to move towards. After all, the iPhone certainly didn’t start off as a great “Product” but, it did start a revolution of “Products”
People are too nice to it? All I've heard is that it's a useless and terrible device.
Has no one read the Summer quarter technical roadmap that was shown at CES 2024? Everyone is complaining about false expectations and hopes. Get the facts, and give it time peeps. Just my $0.02.
So... It's a smartphone but worse
I called it on the first day it was announced, a bullshit botnet by a scammer. Don't enter any of your detail in it.
A flawed solution to a problem noone asked for. Can't wait for Krazy Ken to make a video about how terrible this device is and perhaps the financial downfall of the people behind this.
Probably gonna fail
The design on this thing looks like a rip off of the Playdate
The design firm fused for both the R1 and Playdate is Teenage Engineering, who makes designs in this style!
Lmao bro doesn't know who Teenage Engineering is
@@LouieCartoon So? All they make seems to be overpriced and stupid
Seriously how lazy are people that they perceive talking to a box to order burgers is some how easier than clicking it with your finger? Everybody used to think handwriting recognition was the holy grail in handheld devices, not, its not, we knew as soon as it came out, nobody wants to use a stylus. Everybody thought we needed a revolutionary input method for handheld devices to be useful, people invented gesture recognition, all sorts of non-qwerty keyboards but no, turns out we are fine with thumb typing... dragon dictate could write emails for us > 2 decades ago, no, all of us still type with a keyboard, because, it is precise and not really as hard as we think it is. Pressing the >> button on the phone/watch/wireless buds is so much easier so much less awkward than yelling "next track!" on public transportation. Stop this madness already, if i really want to order a pizza vocally, at best I ask alexa to do it, not another thing i have to charge everyday and renew every few years
*IT'S JUST A SMARTPHONE BUT COMPLETE USELESS!*
