marcostars, I'm really interested in this opinion. Do you really feel like you need to know the difference between a 77 and a 78? Or, for that matter, between a 7 and an 8? Isn't it the content of the review that matters, not the score at all?
Jean-Pierre Wehry it's everything I never thought it would be. I was not impressed by any of the demo updates and really uncertain of how this game would turn out. It ended up being a really enjoyable 11 hours. Not scary IMO. At least not in the thick and eerie way that PT was. But it was a game that drew me in for every moment I played and continued to surprise me in unexpected ways.
Jean Pierre Wehry agreed...im 32 and still have re 0,1,2,3,cvx,4,5,6 & now 7..loved it. but code veronica will always have my heart..followed by nemesis & 2 😆
The video editing of this review is insane. Right before the verdict of the review, I got goosebumps with how the editing was so on par and well directed with Aunt Rhody playing. I've always been taking pointers on your videos, aspiring to reach the high level of quality you guys have set for all of your reviews. Keep up the great work, thank you
I'm not happy with the way EZA handles the RE7 release: First, all the hype and discussion about the game for weeks and weeks, then NOTHING on release day. No stream, no review, no mentioning anywhere on the site. Now, EZA comes up with the last review arriving on TH-cam; and Huber wasn't streaming on release date. I was hoping for a Huber / Bosman VR extravaganza, but now I've finished the game twice already. EZA is late to the party... again.
Dear Blood, thanks for your response. Please don't take my critisism personally. I was hoping for an unprepared stream by any EZA member. Or just any kind of coverage since release. RE7 is (was) big and breaking news, it should have had a special spot in your schedule. Apart from that, I just don't want to watch your scheduled FULL playthrough stream on sunday in one sitting, I'm too old for that. Just some 2-hour-chunks would be fine. Also, I don't want see people to rush through the game (like people do when they stream full playthroughs). Love & Respect
How you manage your workload and your schedules is your thing, of course. We all have much to do everyday. You guys have your priorities in gaming coverage, I have mine (as a viewer). L&R. P.S.: Don't spend too much time on youtube-comments. Most people who are positively excited about your work won't even bother to comment. Critics like me are the minority, I guess.
Rick, I think you are being too critical. EZA is just getting off the ground this year, and they got the copy one day before release. Personally, I rather Huber, or whoever is reviewing a game, take more than one day to fully understand a game. This game came out Tuesday at midnight, and Saturday we are getting a FULL play through. Huber wasn't even on the Tuesday stream this week because he was playing RE7 and working on the review. Also...you are complaining about a full play through that you can't see all of it in one sitting...then what did you want? Multiple streams of someone sitting for two hours at a time playing the game being surprised? Then that makes it "old news" which is what you were complaining about to begin with. I love EZA and RE so...just trying to understand your complaints.
trying to make it more clear without repeating myself: I'm disappointed by EZA's schedule about the coverage. e.g. stream two hours right after release, then continue next day. Put the first stream on youtube immediately... in short: just let RE and EZA fans know that they care about RE7's release immediately. It's not just any game. I also love the RE series, but EZA is letting me down these days in several ways. (no rhyme intended)
I'm just waiting for the hopeful SteamVR release in a year. Being able to play it in VR with motion controls and at its full graphical potential would be insane.
an issue for my friend while we playing together its ussually happen if u dont customise the headset to ur preference which mine r not for my friend and ussually u need time to get used to it
some people have motion sickness even when playing games like counter-strike. It's just how it is. That's why most games come with health warnings that ask you to stop playing if you get seizures or what not.
In my opinion Resident Evil 7 has the best RE story so far. I was concerned with the direction they were going when I played the demo, I did not want this turning into Outlast, but after playing the game and giving it a shot I am so glad I did not pass this up. To me it has been worth every penny. Definitely not a perfect game but they have for sure brought RE survival horror back with a bang.
Joel Cullum He probably did not like the fact that you don't use weapons in outlast, you just run and hide. It's a cool game but dammit I won't to use weapons and fight instead of running
Shaun Melton I always had hope for the game, and I'm glad it turned out great, but it's sad seeing the cynical fans who were early to judge this game affected its sales. Now Capcom is losing shares :( Gotta hate those fans, they don't accept the thing they wanted... It's honestly sad.
I was waiting for this baby! I already beat the game, even made my own review, and yet I can't help but love watching your guys' reviews. Great work as always.
Great review and great game. Doesn't deserve the hate it's getting from "RE fans." It's a welcome change and I hope capcom continues with this direction in the future.
i can see where some of the hate is coming from, cause mainly due to how capcom has shifted it and certain things being canon and not canon now, i won't say what due to spoilers. my reasoning for disliking it is mainly it still feels like outlast just resident evil slapped on it, but thats due to the First person view then anything else.
OsamuWu42 I swear if this game was third person people would clearly see that it is indeed a RE game, but I can see why people would compare it to games like outlast. It feels and plays like RE, but it's just first person. It's there to increase the tension, not to compete or copy those games. That's not to say there wasn't inspiration, but it has its own formula. Who knows maybe the future games can tie in with the other RE games more since the ending pretty much sets it up for that :/
osamu for me this is an re survival horror that I miss I was hyped when they say tevelation gonna be a survival horror but they still r not and more action than survival but this re 7 is that re game with a fps view its finally here !
everyone missed horror for resident evil dude XD just as everyone misses Silent Hills...but hey at least capcom pulled through on their promise unlike a certain company
Thank you guys for not showing any spoilers or talking about them. I am playing through the game now and not one clip showed anything that spilled the game. Really appreciate that! Keep up the good work and as always, love and respect
Huber you madman! What an amazing review! You should publish the shot log, I really want to see the format which you used, the timing for the music and scenes in this review is amazing!
It's a shame so many fans are so resistant to the changes. This looks like the best move the franchise has made since RE4. People will make up their minds about games before they've even been given a real chance...
Quiet Giant I mean everyone crying about people not giving re7 a chance were the same people complaining about what re5 and 6 were. It's just a matter of wether or not you actually like the direction the franchise is headed.
What's most impressive in all of this is that it was a fairly big budget game announced a mere 7 months ahead of release with minimal spoilers in the marketing, that released the day they said it would when they announced it. Pay attention game devs, this is how you make people happy
Great review Mike. Don't let motion sickness for VR scare you off. I became motion sick within 15 minutes in Here they lie and Robinson the journey. But i play RE7 in sessions of 2 or 3 hours and no motion sickness at all. This game is the killer app for VR imo, it ads so much more to the experience. It's nothing like you have did before in videogames. If you can afford it buy a PSVR for this game, you won't regret it. RE1>REmake>RE2>RE3>RE7>RE4>RECV>RE5>RErev2>RErev>>>>>RE6
Played 1 a few times, played 2 to absolute peices just like 3. CV I missed out on, slipped 456 and went straight to Res Rev 2. I was worried and exited about this installment. I was gutted about PT so was looking forward to the 1st person idea but was not into the idea of the Bakers AT ALL. But I told myself to shut up and try it because it was going to be a historical game. I LOVE IT and have been up all night (ehem 2hrs sleep oops) not able to stop playing it. The scares in some parts had me screaming the house down and yes it was at 4am. This game reminds me of the old school games 1,2 & 3. Even in 1st person I was still hooked and just HAD to find out what happened next. The puzzles are really cool and you cant just shoot your way through the game, you have to be careful. It is a really good survival horror Res game. The atmosphere is constantly gnawing at your senses and you never feel safe, unless of course, you find a safe room and SPRINT TOWARDS IT!! I haven't finished it yet but I am tearing through it big time. Its way better then I though it would be.
The best in the business when it comes to reviews. Glad you enjoyed it Huber, I hope you guys talk about it on Frametrap. Love you guys and couldn't be more happy, here's to another year of EZA.
Great review! Detailed everything I wanted to hear about while avoiding spoilers, also really liked the video that went with it and how it was put together.
Excellent review and edit from you Huber and Jones! I was incredibly pleased with what they did with with RE7 and I'm fully on board with this direction Capcom is going with the series.
I'm definitely a fan of the RE franchise (in particular 1,2,3,CVX, 4, and some spinoffs), and I am so thankful Capcom decided to go in this direction. It has the thick atmosphere the earlier RE titles are known for as well as pursuers that act as the "Nemesis" enemies of the game. There was so much love put into the game and I am more than happy that I am able to experience it. I personally have become scared at several points throughout the game thus far, and honestly no horror game has made me feel like this in quite a long time. It's as if I'm a little kid again playing a horror game lol. I hope that to all who play it enjoy it to some degree.
There are even nods to older resident evil titles that people didn't mention, like one of my favorites, the running speed and the manner in which ethen holds firearms while walking/running being very similar to how characters from the old games held their firearms.
Guys, thank you. You were my favorite reviewers back in the day, and you are still now. I always loved the passion and effort you put to make this videos. I have not always agreed with you, but overall I trust you. This is one of my most anticipated games of this year, and since it was announced I was like "man, I hope Easy Allies review this", because unlike the people saying "Oh, this is not RE, wtf" I knew you guys know your stuff, and you did. I dunno, I just wanted to say this, keep the awesome work.
Wasn't planning on getting this, as I have too many new games to play. Then the reviews came out and now it's top priority. I'm playing it now and hot damn, horror is back.
I've been a fan of the series for most of my life. I could never pick a constant favorite between 2 and 3, it changes every couple years or so. I loved remake as well back on gamecube and who could forget about RE4. I've already beaten RE7 four times, twice in one day, and unlocked all of the NG+ items. I personally am happy with the direction they've taken my favorite franchise. It was a welcome change in my opinion. The first part of the game is intense, but when you get to the Baker house it instantly brought me back. Finding items and figuring out what to do with them, looking for certain keys, save rooms, etc. There haven't really been any RE games I've really disliked besides maybe Survivor, but RE7 is already in my top 5 maybe 4. It may even move up when the dlc season is said and done!
It does a great job of lulling you through visuals into thinking it is riffing on ground covered by Outlast and PT, but in the end it really blazes a great path while keeping alot of it's roots. I disagree with anyone that thinks it isn't RE, RE hasn't been itself since 4(which I still like alot) but I like that they were able to toe the line of throwback v.s. competing with peers.
Good review Huber! Really impressed with the quality. Review videos from easy allies are an art form and it's a pleasure to watch them evolve. Splendid work! Even though I have no interest in the actual game...
This is easily among my Top 5 Resident Evil games and probably the best example of a series returning to its roots while still bringing something new and substantial to the formula.
Lucas was by far the most interesting antagonist. The only downside was that the boss fights were pretty boring and tame in my opinion. But I did find it pretty creepy all the way through though
Luke R I just thought the boss fights were too easy and kind of a slog to get through. They weren't horrible but I felt they could have been more creative with them.
"We refuse to spoil any plot details, other than the basic premise", I wish Gamespot shared your logic. Seriously don't watch the Gamespot review it's very spoiler-y
holy crap I wanna give a shout out to Brandon for the masterful editing he did on this video. I've watched the video 3 times already for the ending moments. Love and respect!
Capcom knocked it out of the park with VII. I loved every minute of it...and i'm on my 3rd play through.. I was skeptical about RE7 initially.. a healthy skepticism... but being a fan of the first three games and recognizing them as the only true RE games of the franchise I was hoping they'd go back to what made RE great in the first place and they did... it's not a perfect game..but it's easily the best RE since Nemesis.
Great review and great editing to not spoil anything. I'm probably more than half way through at the moment on an under-powered PC, the PS4 Pro seems to be running the game incredibly well here in the review. which is making me very envious of anyone who has one.
I really enjoyed the game. I just wish later areas would have been similar in depth and puzzles to the main house area at the start. Also the last boss battle I was expecting to be a little bit more intense. That all said one of the best games I've played in a while.
Beat this game and LOVED it, felt like RE 1-3 being merged with the advances in modern horror games. Frankly the ability to fight back is just fantastic, all these Amnesia clones have been making me crave that again. The whole time I was playing it, all I wanted to hear was Hubers thoughts, cuz I know he loves RE as much as me. Totally agree with everything said. My biggest problem with the game was strangely enough the sprint speed. It just felt way too slow, unless you were outside. Otherwise it wasn't so much a "Oh shit I'm running for my life!" as it was a "Hmm maybe I should get groceries after this jaunt."
This review is very similar to Dan Ryckert's from Giant Bomb, both know their history with the series and fully understood what this game did well all though I think there's an issue with the pacing of the last part, goes on a bit too long and loses its tension. Thanks again guys for these great reviews.
Not the first RE that is played in first person, Resident Evil: Dead Aim (2003), Resident Evil: Survivor (2000), Resident Evil: Survivor 2 - Code Veronica (2001), Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (2007), Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (2009), Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (2000) and Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (2006) all used first person.
That's the score I expected. The game isn't perfect it has flaws, but damn...it really reminds me so much of the old games. Searching around, learning enemy habits, finding items, learning how to use weapons to best suit a situation. I haven't finished this yet...but so far I love it. I wish it had a few less "jump" scares but OLD RE had jump scares too, I just got so used to them that I forgot they happened XD.
It's too bad I couldn't play it in VR, but on the other hand, this is one of the best looking games I've ever played with most settings maxed and at 2K or higher resolution, aside from all its other great features. I was so immersed and entertained that my playthrough actually took 17 hours, and I don't feel I wasted a single minute of it. :)
I'm surprised I really didn't expect it to do so well it receive a good reception. I played the initial demo but after that I went on a blackout for media in the fear that it would get spoiled like recent games. But, seem like a good pick up. Still though 8 hours is 8 hours (potentially 16 or so). Would you recommend full price or wait for a sale?
I'll admit it. I was a nay sayer. I thought this might've been it for RE. And judging by the trailers for the game, I don't think that opinion was unjustified. But this game. This game. It's a freaking masterpiece. You know the way we think about games that defined their consoles? Stuff like Chrono Trigger, the original RE, Shadow of the Colossus? This is that game for the PS4 generation.
I just today found out the GT guys started a new channel. Fucking subbed. I love hearing this voice decide if I'm buying a game or not. God damn this is great.
I actually love the Stars with the contextual Excellent, Fair, etc...You get a sense the ratings as sort of a recommendation to the viewers. Like, you should check this out or not, based upon the review and your own interests, but the rating system as well. I do prefer it. It's easier to rate something when you think to yourself after, it was okay...This is why. So what does our EZA rubric say? Oh yeah... Obviously not perfect by any means, but what is. We are human, and bias/error is to human. But if you take it from the perspective and personal experience of the reviewer, the scoring system is secondary, as it should be.
Got to give this a go last night on a rental. Holy crap was is it unnerving! Bravo Capcom. I look forward to picking up soon. And thanks for the review EZA!
Does anybody know whether that music during the end part of the review (becoming really loud at around 5:12) is part of the game or just the review? I hope the latter (for the sake of the game), though this would mean a poor choice on part of EZA as (at least to me) it sounds like trying too hard to be overly dramatic and epic and fails horribly in my eyes ending up being silly and pretentious and definitely not serving or suiting a resident evil game as I've known them since the first one... :-(
When this game was announced I bitched and moan and said stuff like its an Outlast clone and this is not Resident Evil. After playing it I take it all back, the game is a masterpiece and one of the best games ever made. I hope Capcom continues to go in this direction and make this same developer team be in charge of future Resident Evil games they understand what Survival horror is.
*Written by Michael Hyuber* --- (chuckles, Yea, won the first bet) :D Nailed by 'Dont tell aunt rhody' :D Been watching reviews since 2003-4 may be. But dont remember last time i enjoyed a review like this before. Nice and detailed review. Hyped n Kudos !!! And yea, dont tell aunt rhody :D
4 1/2 out of 5 stars fucking called it
Its 4.5/5 not 4.
Easy Allies yeah sorry my bad meant 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, spell check. Still called it though
Easy Allies I honestly prefer the 0-100 score method that way it's way more clear what the score is
A 5 star review system couldn't be simpler and clearer, especially with the word accompanying it.
marcostars, I'm really interested in this opinion. Do you really feel like you need to know the difference between a 77 and a 78? Or, for that matter, between a 7 and an 8? Isn't it the content of the review that matters, not the score at all?
That voice.... so good. Another quality review that outshines the rest. Amazing job guys!
Yes, he's called Brandon Jones
How somber were the tapestries?
How odd were the forms?
Rhys Bennett I'd rate it 9/10 jill sandwiches
Rhys Bennett how is the atmospheric horror?
is there a nightmare universe?
Only one game has the most somber ones.
As a life long Resident Evil fan, I am very impressed with RE7. It is everything I wanted it to be.
Jean-Pierre Wehry Why dont you take a seat over here sir, lets chat.
Jean Pierre Wehry agreed...im 32 and still have re 0,1,2,3,cvx,4,5,6 & now 7..loved it. but code veronica will always have my heart..followed by nemesis & 2 😆
i was scared as fuck and loved the ever loving shit out of it. Great motherfuckin game
The first time I played this it actually gave me nightmares: the second time I dreamt I was being chased by Jack Baker

Even better than the original trailer.
I can agree with that xD
Brandons voice always makes me feel nostalgic... reminds me of the old times listening to GT reviews.
The editing is 5/5 stars.

definitely agree except for the motion sickness part. I didn't have any problem with it myself.
Neither me, but it is still an issue for some.

The only review that matter os out.
Ya did real good, Michael P. Huber.
I'm so stoked to hear Huber unleash the beast on the next Frame Trap gushing about the game. He needed this.
He's doing a full play through with Bosman in tow tomorrow! Should be a blast!
Yeah I can't imagine how he would feel if he had to deal with a crappy RE again
Blindly Fumblin correction... it was a blast :P
Warnut, I honestly didn't expect it to be so much fun, but it really was *end corrections music*

Shaun Melton the conversation Ethan has with Jack was a great scene
Dr Strangelove Yeah great voice acting and really good animation.

loved the transition there 1:43
I hope that was intentional, that was awesome!

The best RE game in almost 15 years. I'm so happy Capcom didn't fuck things up for once
I'm always so impressed by the level of quality of your videos! keep up the good work guys!
I really like the "go tell aunt Rhodey" song, except for the first time she says it and adds 10 extra syllables. "Go tell aunt Hwouroadee"
Unusually strong January for games this year. Yakuza, ResiEvil, Gravity Rush, etc.
Marko Stamenkovic We could be looking at another "2015" if this keeps up..
i really like their editing. Timed and catches the mood of the game. Great work Brandon!
Easy Allies have the best reviews in the business

The editing in this review was absolutely fantastic, the best I've ever seen on the channel!
The best in the business when it comes to reviews. Glad you enjoyed it Huber, I hope you guys talk about it on Frametrap. Love you guys and couldn't be more happy, here's to another year of EZA.
I think it deserves the 5 if you go to Madhouse. The entire game changes in such a unique way that it even blows my mind how good it is.
Loving this game so far! Glad to see Huber did, too!
I've finished this game 8 times, got the platinum and am still playing... I'm craving more, this is what RE should have always been.
Masterfull editing at closing Brandon!
DAT EDIT
Brandon Jones is a machine
Wasn't planning on getting this, as I have too many new games to play. Then the reviews came out and now it's top priority. I'm playing it now and hot damn, horror is back.
What a great review from Huber and edit from Jones!! I'm "jacked" that you guys loved it! Great job guys!!
Fantastic review,Huber! Super well done! Love the music/stars reveal.
Fantastic editing. Well done Jones.
Nillend Huber did help a lot this time around by giving Jones shot logs(something he never done before) so good job Huber :)
Great review of a great game. Thanks for your work EZA.
Huber Hype!
Drayton2k As soon as I saw Huber's name next to "Written by:" I knew this review was going to be food!
This is easily among my Top 5 Resident Evil games and probably the best example of a series returning to its roots while still bringing something new and substantial to the formula.
Lucas was by far the most interesting antagonist. The only downside was that the boss fights were pretty boring and tame in my opinion. But I did find it pretty creepy all the way through though
and that bad ending lol other than that im happy the comeback of survival horror re :)
Wow, the editing on this one is really good. I never really noticed before.
holy crap I wanna give a shout out to Brandon for the masterful editing he did on this video.
9.5 /10 for me ! Also worth to mention the value of the Season pass, alot of goodies and theres a free Update with Chris coming on spring !
I missed the voice of GT. Good to have you guys doing this stuff again.
This game has a ton of Atmosphere!! Even outside of VR, it's very easy to get lost in the world! Great review, Huber!
I love the game but more than anything I am just so happy Huber finally gets a scary RE game that he loves again!!!
Wonderful editing job, Brandon.
My last Resident Evil was 4. This game definitely blew my mind. Awesome game. Way better than Gears of Zombie 5 and 6.
Great review Huber, and great voice and editing Jones :D
It's too bad I couldn't play it in VR, but on the other hand, this is one of the best looking games I've ever played with most settings maxed and at 2K or higher resolution, aside from all its other great features.
I was so immersed and entertained that my playthrough actually took 17 hours, and I don't feel I wasted a single minute of it. :)
Excellent editing Brandon!
Excellent review Michael.
Quality content is always expected and delivered from Easy Allies.
So happy to see this series return to glory!
Guys, great review, make them longer. And those were some somber tapestries.
Resident Evil is back baby.
its worse than 6
I'm surprised I really didn't expect it to do so well it receive a good reception. I played the initial demo but after that I went on a blackout for media in the fear that it would get spoiled like recent games. But, seem like a good pick up. Still though 8 hours is 8 hours (potentially 16 or so). Would you recommend full price or wait for a sale?
go buy it if u like the ori re game u loved it and if u dont intend to play it on vr get the pc one its 40 $
best video game reviewers. love you guys
I've played 7 hours over 3 sessions in VR so far and had no issues at all with motion sickness. Had problems with other games, but none here.
Just beat the game and loved every minute of it. Resident Evil is back!!! Great review guys.
awesome ! I have been waiting for this
I just today found out the GT guys started a new channel.
P.S.- Great job Huber!
Got to give this a go last night on a rental. Holy crap was is it unnerving! Bravo Capcom. I look forward to picking up soon. And thanks for the review EZA!
Excellent review Huber! Glad to see that in many ways, RE has returned to form.
Now this is a 4.5 sounding review! Good job
Well informed review. Would have like to have heard a more in-depth look at the VR experience.
nice review Huber & Jones
How often do you guys usually get review copies?
This game was so much better than I thought it would be and Im so happy because of that.
Would the score be the same without VR?
For me it was 9.5 with VR, 9 without.
being pointed a knife on ps vr I think i sxreamed like a girl there :c
great review guys. amazing edit... really enjoying the game so far, MUCH more than I was expecting. I thought RE was a lost franchise. not anymore.
Stellar review, quality work boys!
*Written by Michael Hyuber* --- (chuckles, Yea, won the first bet) :D
