  • Hey all y'all Zuk Junkies! I this video I show y'all how to rebuild the Suzuki Samurai 1.3L bottom end. I'll being showing you how to remove the press fit pistons off the connecting rod, getting the new pistons on those connecting rods, how to check and adjust ring end gap correctly, as well as how to install the assembled pistons with rings into the cylinder. I even give a small tutorial on how to modify the stock oil pump to make it more efficient.

    Man, for real inside the most information and educational step by steps for this car! Thanks man! This is going to help in a major way for my Samurai!
    You should be teaching classes to people doing this. A lottttt of people would pay to learn the right way to do these things and do some in person courses taught by someone that knows what they're doing.

    Couple of things you didn’t mention I’m curious about.
    We used to mark everything.
    Rods mark with F and cyl number.
    Mains marked the same. # and orientation.
    Someone marked a piston backward once on a reused one and when started the engine had a tick when running. Took forever because it was punched backward.
    All that matters.
    We punched the top of the pistons with Cyl. # too.
    Always on forward side.
    Center punch instead of number punch.
    Always easy to read and put back correct.
    Just my thoughts.
    I gotta say, you are very good at this.
    Some are like listening to a 10 year old.
    Keep it up.
    I will share with other Zukies.
    Thanks again.

      Jordan P, Yes I am. Just started a new job and have been busy. Haven't even touched the Sammy's. Have been doing allot of work to my 07 Tundra. Just preventive maintenance stuff. Did replace the drivers side seat cushion, and figured out how to perferate my own leather seat. Think I'll do a video on how to do your own. I also found a kit to add AC and heating to your own factor seats

    My method.
    When putting oil rings on.
    Situate the top ring between the bottom groove and the middle groove.
    Bottom ring below oil groove.
    Then put in cage ring.
    Then the wiper rings slip in easier.

    Great video This is something I would like to tackle someday. I've seen other videos that use some kind of crush guage for setting the crankshaft guide thingy's in. When is that needed?

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ezzyeggy that's plasti gauge. That's something that you generally all ways use. I'm just reusing my bearings and didn't do anything to the crank so I don't need to use the plasti gauge. It's used to double check your bearing clearances.

    Instead of using assembly lube on con rod bolts, use ARP Ultra Torque Fastener.. It assures the correct torque value.. If you notice you said you were installing ARP head studs to keep the head gasket sealed, ARP includes a small ointment size amount of their Ultra Torque Fastener so the threads on the head studs have the correct torque value for their studs..Every threaded product they sell comes with it.. It is a good idea to use a lubricant between and on both sides of the con rod bolts to stop the friction, just not sure I'd use assembly lube.. ARPs website has a section for frequently asked questions, one of them being what to do about rod bolts and or nuts. It states to use ARP Ultra Torque under bolt head or con rod nut sealing surface. So in a Samurai you can use it between the rod bolt washer on either side. I would not smear it on, just a light coating should be good.. They also talk about head stud installation if threads in block pass through a oiling or coolant area to thoroughly clean threads applying ARP thread sealant instead of Ultra Torque and can use blue loctite on head stud nuts if desired..Can also use Ultra Torque on underside of head stud nuts between nut and head stud washer.. I would think you could use it everywhere there are threads and be ok.. Its main purpose is for stainless steel threads to keep them from galling when nut is torqued..Just my 2 cents, hope it helps.. Love your video's, I learn something from each one..

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Geletzke, that's great info. Honesty all lubrication products have come a long way since the early days, and ARP probably have done a great deal of R&D for fastener lubricant because they are one of, if not the best manufacturer of engine fasteners.

    Stick your wrist pins in the freezer overnight, they will contract. Works with bearings and races as well.

    Will anti-sieze work just as well on the threads and in-between the bolt and washer?

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a good idea to use anti seize on any internals of the motor. The nickel and copper based stuff had actual metal in it, and as far as the food grade anti seize goes, I would be worried that out wouldn't be thin enough to make it all the way thru any oil passages of it managed to get sucked up the oil pickup tube. Your best bet would be to clean the sticky coating that comes on the new bolts/ clean any debris from old hardware, and just use regular motor oil to lubricate the treads and washers if you don't have any assembly lube. That's what everyone did before assembly lube.
