- We review the 2020 Aston Martin Vantage, a luxury GT car filled to the brim with heritage. We discuss the good and bad of the car and why you would consider buying it. Mid way through we cover all of the technical and manufacturing details on what makes the Aston special and of course the compromises made. Other cars to consider are the Lexus LC500, Mercedes AMG GT, BMW M8, Porsche 911, and Jaguar F Type.

I really don't understand how some channels that are way less knowledgeable about cars, its industry and trends, and have worse production quality have million subscribers yet you struggle to break half of that..
I feel like you truly bring the best car content on TH-cam alongside with the German Autogefuhel or however they're spelled.

Also, the Japanese channel Hot Version is another top tier car channel. It's my personal favorite, but I consider SG's quality to be comparable.

I think he should let Jack drive more often, it's always a lot easier to appreciate performance from the passenger seat. You are right though, seldom does Mark ever crack a grin like that in the driving impressions.

I’m a huge Porsche fan but no one builds a more beautiful car then Aston Martin. No one. And that exhaust makes my naughty parts tingle.

Dear Mark and Jack; As someone who was struggling with somehow similar difficulties in my field, I guarantee you'll have one of the most successful auto channels in the near future, just keep the good job.
Also I wanted you to know I am very happy that you didn't go down the road of cheap (and easy) tricks to gather some views and I really appreciate your work and wish you the best... Really... :)
I've seen Matt Farah's two one takes of this car, and always thought it was a lame, reskinned amg gt. Boy oh boy was I wrong; offering a dog-legged manual option, weight balance, perfect ELSD tuning, it's all really cool. Massive respect to Aston for what they've done with this, even though they transitioned to slightly over-the-top styling and ditched the analog gauges, there seems to be a lot of effort to make this into a unique, high performance and yet comfortable all-rounder.

And to think this is their entry level car..
I've seen such varying opinions on this car. Jason Cammisa absolutely hated the handling and overall tuning. I think it's possible that the early "rushed" examples may have had more issues.
I had the same thought. Matt basically liked some parts of the car but was not impressed. This left me with a much more genuine impression of its good qualities. Just needs a manual and an exhaust.
farah and cammisa lost me when the r&t crew chose the veloster n as their pcoty, and not because i care about the award, but because that was a fucking doug-like hot take for an award. like click-bait for the print world...
Goes to show you just how informative Matt Farah’s work is. That channel is super overrated. He drives the same road over and over and over. It’s so damn boring.
Their configurator looks like the configurator menu on a need for speed game.

This. I tinker with online car configurations when I'm bored at work and Aston's config is one of the best I've used.
To be honest it's mind blowing how many hundreds of billion dollar main stream car makers have horribly sometimes unusable car configurators and its sincerely a deal breaker. How can they give it soo little attention to basically your first window into the brand?
It's a greater time waster than I imagined.
That's because it runs on gaming technology. I think both Unreal and Autodesk has products for making configuartors.
The production value and quality of these reviews is best on TH-cam by far. You guys are killing it.

Aston martin v12-vantage with dog-legged manual was the only superior offering imo. But yes, this car is amazing.

Comparing an Aston to a Lexus (LFA aside) essentially means you don't quite get what an Aston is. Those who can afford an Aston certainly wouldn't be considering a Lexus as an alternative. Comparing a hand built bespoke British sports car to a mass produced Japanese car is like comparing a frozen pizza to a freshly made-by-hand pizza from a restaurant in Naples.
FWIW, I like Lexus, a lot, but the feel you get from driving something properly high end, hand made and bespoke can't be compared. The feel of driving an Aston is nothing like driving a Lexus in many aspects.
Marc...you sir are a craftsman of the highest order... your production quality, continuity and analysis are without equal in the automotive review universe. Kudos!!!
The hosts are fantastic in the way they approach each vehicle. The FICO, net worth etc was all tongue in cheek because they were evaluating/reviewing a wealthy person's choice of vehicle. If you see more of their reviews you would come to appreciate the reviews as something special in the world of TH-cam car videos.
When I heard this had a Mercedes V8 in it, I was like "Ah crap, Aston Martin is going German."
When I heard the exhaust note... "Oh glorious day, Aston still got it!"

The amount of quality in these videos is through the roof. I love how these guys never compromise on editing, information, and keeping the overall “aura” so pleasing to the eyes.

The configurator for this car is just too much fun. I love the crazy color option and small touches. If I'm paying $150K+ for a car, I want those options.
This car is gorgeous, sounds good, and actually has a manual. I'm with Jack though. With the stick, this is what I'd want under $200K. Porsche be damned!

It makes no sense to force emission standards to a low volume car maker like Aston. It makes no difference, it just removes the character that this fine car should have, reducing the chances of it becoming a future classic.

i personally feel like aston makes enough cars for emissions to be important. i feel that if manufacturer produces less than 500 cars of a specific model per year then emissions can be forgone. the vantage isn’t produced in massive numbers but they still make a decent number of them per year.
@@boxr_4214 A quick search gave me 6.000 Astons in 2019. Toyota, 10 million. So honestly, I really don't know if 1.600 times less production volume is enough for my argument. And btw, 6k per year means 1500 of each model roughly, so we're pretty close to your 500 models per year idea.
They've got a big stupid SUV now just like every other sportscar brand so get ready for that ugly piece of shit to outsell the entire rest of the lineup 10:1.

Excellent review. I can see you guys come alive when you have a car you really like. Any day I would take a Aston over a Ferrari. I think it is more subtle in design, more elegant and it provides all the creature comforts I am want to have.

One question I had is: How were they able to lower the engine with the wet sump system? One of the advantages of a dry sump (besides mitigating oil starvation under cornering, etc.) is that the scavenge pumps take up a lot less room than the oil pan, and the reservoir can be placed anywhere. Thus, all things being equal, a dry sump system should give the ability to lower the engine further, whereas a wet sump would require more room underneath for the oil pan. Would I be wrong in assuming that lowering the engine was a consequence of other design geometries (perhaps, suspension, etc.) rather than engine lubrication?
I think this is one of the best looking aston ever made.

30k views is not enough. Doug puts in zero freaking effort, gets everything wrong and yet effortlessly sucks up views. It's a cold, unfair world.
I think a big reason why Doug succeeds is that he makes cars more approachable to non-car people. As a car guy, I appreciate the engineering talk these guys have, but it could be intimidating to someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
I like both. Doug actually knows a lot about the car, such as meanings behind the shape of headlights etc.

This might be the first car in a few years that actually gets me going. It gives me an actual emotional response. Seems like Aston really figured out the right mixture of looks, daily drivability, and prestige. They really seem to offer a lot to make it your own as well. And man... The sound. I'm sold! Great video!

This has me looking at DB9 prices. I would be very curious in a comparison between this automatic guise and an AMG GTC

Love the review but one question. How can you have an odd number for the seat adjustments? So in one dimension you can move it one way but never back?

This is somthing that we all knew already but... HANDS DOWN the ABSOLUTE BEST CAR CHANNEL ON TH-cam. No other channels even come close to this level of accurate information and cinematic quality. I mean c'mon they are showing us the underside of the car and wheel well components with a 3D camera🤯. Who else on this platform does that at this level of quality and clarity on both sports cars and everyday crossovers?

I have a 2010 vantage and the only thing holding me back from buying one of these is the lack of a dealer nearby, the complexity of the newer tech is something I can't repair on my own, nor trust some dumbass local indy guy to fix either.... I test drove one though and it was better in every way other than looks
