    • @manyanyato

The issue is the potential cost to United's viability longterm sporting-wise. If Ole doesn't work out, it'll have been after large transfer layout for players fitting his philosophy (whatever that is). If you're pressing, Jorginho might not be as good a fit as Fabinho for instance. The opposite would be true if your game plan was based on possession. This will be against a backdrop of competitors (MCFC, LFC) that are focussed and synchronised to achieve success. There is a financial cost to these mistakes, that in the long run, could jeopardise a club even as big as United. They feel the risk is worth it; maybe Ole's shown the potential to be a savant

Also if Poch wasnt the target, this is the best way to start planning for next season. The manager is in place so now hopefully a director of football that can work with him can be appointed. Then with those two in place the scouting and negotiating with transfer candidates can begin. Like Bayern have already bought players for next season because you need to start early to get the top players.
Players who are now being linked to the club, know who is in charge and that makes a difference

Bigger problem is - everyone has to start somewhere. Successful managers with proven CV's didn't just walk into those; they earned them. If Solskjaer fails in the long run, it's not any different than the past three Utd managers, two of whom (as you indicated) had fantastic CV's. But he's earned a chance at a longer managerial stint at the club, I would agree.

@@chukwudumebimordi8798 Or Solskjaer. He too has a CV. And that CV says he took Cardiff from 17th to 20th in the Premier League. And he took Cardiff to 17th in the Championship. Man Utd just made the failed manager of Cardiff their manager. LMAO. What a banter club. Becoming more banterish by the hour!
Psst. Do you want to know why Solskjaer has been successful? Because Mourinho was manager before him and he improved the club. All he needed was the players to pick up tools. Solskjaer just copied Mourinho's tactics (defend and park the bus) and he got the players to pick up tools by praising them. Worked. But it will not work in the long run because they will get harder fixtures coming up, and he's slowly changing the way they play, and they will start dropping points. Once they do badly, the team won't be such happy campers. And Solskjaer's motivational tactics won't work. They need to get rid of a lot of the players. But Solskjaer was hired because he pretends that all the players are good enough to be kept on. He puts Pogba as the center of the strategy which is a mistake. Pogba isn't good enough. Teams know they only have to pocket Pogba and the match is theirs. They know Solskjaer puts him at the center of the strategy.
In difficult games, he will fail, and he won't get past the group stages of the next Champions League assuming they even play in it next season.
Mourinho knew the team he inherited from previous managers wasn't good enough and he was trying to improve it. But the owners sacked him because he was too costly. They got Solskjaer who behaves the opposite. So they will keep him for a short while. Before the results go really bad, and they're in hot water for mismanaging Man Utd, they will try to sell the club.
In the meantime, they would have made tons of money from commercial interests. Their main concern is to make money in the short term, not get the club to win titles in the long term.
Solskjaer was hired to paint lipstick on the pig and keep the whole charade going on a bit longer. The fans are the marks they're conning. Fans are easy to manipulate. Most of them are brainwashed zombies anyway.
The Wolves and Arsenal matches should have told them the wheels have fallen off the Ollie bus, but they aren't thinking with their heads. They've hypnotized themselves into thinking that Fergie is back at the wheel in the form of Ole and they're convinced the good ol' days are back. The truth is that Fergie only became successful because of MONEY.
Against people like Mourinho, he was EXPOSED for what he is, a two-bit manager who stumbled onto a lot of luck when Man Utd got hold of lots of money. Mourinho beat him in 6 games out of 14 when he was manager of Chelsea (and even before this, he beat Man Utd on his way to winning the Champions League with tinpot club Porto), whereas Fergie could only beat him in 3 games, and this was when he had Ronaldo, Scholes, Ferdinand, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy and other "greats".
Before Man Utd fell into money, making them the first plastic club of the league, Fergie had not won the title. Even though he had been at the helm for 6 years. After the money, Fergie was winning 1-2 years. Hmmm ... I wonder if there's a connection /s.
Man Utd is no longer the club that has the most money in the Premier League. That club is now Man City. Man Utd has not been doing well the past six years except for a blip when Mourinho was in charge. It was only when Mourinho was the manager that Man Utd was playing in the Champions League.
If the club fails to get into the Champions League, you can say goodbye to the club getting any top players. They will get the B-grade rejects, the ageing ones, the frequently injured ones, the ones who aren't top shelf. And even then, they'll have to pay above market price to lure them to the club. The club will become an MLS club.
The hiring of Solskjaer is not seen as a prestigious one. His CV has "failed manager of Cardiff" on it. Agents of top players don't want their clients to play for managers like that. It's too risky. Their clients will probably have to play in Europa League somewhere down the road. No way.
So the quality of the squad will decline. Players and agents who think the good run is going to last are FOOLS.
If I were De Gea, I'd think it was time to bail out of the club.
I think he's waiting to see how the rest of the season's games go. If they don't get into the Champions League, he'll be out. There won't be a shortage of offers. Real may knock on his door. Courtois has bombed at Real and he's not favored by Zidane. And DDG will be leaving on a free which means that clubs will offer him good wages.
Sanchez has been underutilized by both Mourinho and Solskjaer. The owners don't want to sell him, risking that he will do well in another club, and they'll probably have to take a pay cut too if they want to offload him somewhere. They want Solskjaer to play him more in games.
So things are very shaky at the moment.
The best thing for them was to hang onto Mourinho. He would have brought the club firmly into the era of modern football. For crying out loud, he's the one that started all this "modern football" trend. His clubs have been doing pressing, a mixture of zonal and man-marking, defending and counterattacking for YEARS.
They should have allowed him to have had ONE bad year, where he can make all the mistakes he wants, experimenting, shifting players around, disciplining players, training them to play a different way, and trying out new strategies, things that are all risky.
Then he could have worked out the kinks in his system, gotten rid of the bad players, made the discipline in the squad strong so that the team only had players who would fall on the sword for their manager, and he would have gotten the transfers he really needed after finding out what the holes in the squad were.
Then he would have come back BETTER and STRONGER in the following season and challenged for the title.
Not this "are we going to make top 4?" business. That's for banter clubs. A Mourinho club does not ask these sorts of questions. They WIN leagues, and they win Champions Leagues too.
The club should have been grateful to Mourinho for agreeing to manage them while they were in the Europa League, and winning it and getting them into the Champions League, and they should have trusted him throughout the difficult third year. If they had, they would have reaped the fruits of trusting this remarkable manager for many years to come. He would have restored the club to the top of the league, like he did Inter, Chelsea, Real and Porto.
Instead, the owners throw out A+ managers and bring in F grade managers to their club. Fans are very silly too. They act as if they've all drunk the KoolAid. Delusional gloryhunters. One of a kind.

I think Solskjaer should get his shot but Mourinho did do well with the players in season 1 and 2. First season won 3 trophies (if you include the community shield), second season finished runner up to a record breaking Man City and made the FA Cup final. It was only this season that it all fell apart when he felt that he wasn't backed in the summer. Don't get me wrong he handled that like a petulant child, but he clearly put Utd back on an upward trend.

Even if we assume that all of what you said is true, it still doesn't address the issue.
Mourinho gave us the worse performance of Man Utd in its history with these players this season.

Emyshine Felix Its still a huge risk! When you look at the time period in which Pep came and Zidane came Barcalona and Madrid were still at the top, they were one of the best clubs in world football. They had a bad season and then Zidane and Pep were called Man United didn't have a bad season they had 6 horrible seasons since Fergie left amd not doubting Man United as the top club but its not the same it was during Ronaldo years. There is not the same appeal anymore. Right now you got players such as Pogba, Martial maybe even De gea, a time might come when these players decide its enough and jump ship especially if ole fails to deliver. Thats the whole reason its such a huge risk. If Man United doesn't successfully start rebuilding, then a point might come where they would never topple Real or Barca and go back to the glory days.

Exactly! They had 27 trophies, those are United glory days. And after some point people and players are going to forgets what kinda club United is. Nobody gives two fucks about City being a championship side almost a decade back, its the same United unless United starts rebuilding trusting in a manger for long term instead of short term bandages. It may very well workout, but its still a huge risk for United to be taking especially when Pogba is openly flirting with Real and Martial had expressed desire to leave during Mourinho days. Chill bro i am just saying its a big risk nobody is saying United is a small club, people still remember the batch of 93 with dread.

They had also won La Liga 1 time in the past 7 seasons. When Pep entered they had won 5 trophies in the past 9 years missing out on the previous 2 La Liga titles. Only one UCL in the past 12 seasons. Since Sir Alex retired in 2013 (6 years ago), Man Utd has won 6! Ronaldo left in 2008, 5 years before he retired also adding another 5 (2008-2013) to the trophy cabinet within that time. Never finishing below second despite CR7s absence. Martial & Pogba are all very good players, but they can always be replaced. Be it a new system that requires players with different skill-sets or for any other reason. Neither of them are at a CR7 level while he was at Old-Trafford, but the club has moved on from him and won 10 without one of the greatest in the game. It's a misconception for any player, however talented they are, that they are so critical to the point of irreplaceable. The people who pay their wages can't be held ransom as they do their fans or coaches. Ask Ruud Van Nistelrooy if being a star makes you safe. If Ole fails to deliver, then he has failed. Saying that the club will be doomed is an oversight of the resilience a great football club has. I guess it's down to the perception of our society, "if you aren't succeeding NOW we don't recognize you" which is infinitely psychotic if that is how we have programmed ourselves.
