ENGINE CARNAGE! - Record holding VW goes BOOM!

  • FWD Volkswagens running low 9’s? Pushing almost 900hp out of a 1.8L engine? With power to displacement like that, these VW’s are starting to rival rotary engines in terms of output! With high hopes, this Volkswagen GTI was TEARING down the strip at Maryland International Raceway with the intent to go rounds and compete in Import Vs Domestic’s True Street Class. While we may not get to see these small monstrosities, Mike Pauciullo is no stranger to them at all! Running this platform and setup for years in search of its limitations, it would appear he’s found a weak point. We never like to see racers hard earned money destroy itself, but in this situation at least the engine’s last pass was something he can brag about!

    Optimism is when your engine split in two by itself but you still say: "Hey this part is still good"

    • @NicolasT94
      @NicolasT94 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I think he had optimism because he knew one day it was gonna blow up. He has the money to build another, and probably more powerful and reliable than this one. Let's hope so.

      this needs a crank girdle. i here people use diesel blocks to build these too. either or both i imagine would work, at least for a little bit.

    • @NachoBides
      @NachoBides 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Also you can see that not even billet main caps were installed...It's quite impressive that the engine held that well with the stock cast caps. It seems to me that some serious crank walk happened there and we can see the result. I believe a built bottom end with tall billet caps and a thick main girdle would help keeping the rotating mass in place, especially in an engine that revs so high and is being abused with tons of boost. No worries though, all these are part of this sport and the owner should be very happy with his time!

    • @bdog840
      @bdog840 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was cramming 35 - 40 pounds of boost in the engine then dropped the bottom end.

    This is why soda bottle engines will always be inferior. They might be "cool" because they get a lot of power out of small displacement, but they are way more likely to grenade themselves because the engines by design are simply not able to handle that amount of power.

      +Tyler D. Yeah I built a 93 mustang notch back foxbody with a dual carbed ford 460 nitrous big block and c4 3 speed auto, now I do 8.91@ 157 in the 1/4, no fwd car can touch that

      @danielbargas3377 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SuperSebas42 it was the speed factory k20 hatch that did 8.15@200, you're talking a fully built everything civic, lots of rwd twin turbo v8's doing 8's 7's 6's and very few are actually hitting the high 5's now that's a fully built rwd car that isn't top fuel, 8.15@200 vs 5 something at 250+ yeah rwd v8's for the win
