Zeb Well's Gang Wars gets even WORSE - The Amazing Spider-Man #42 Review

- Welcome or welcome back to the stash! today we go over the new issue of The Amazing Spider-Man.
PREVIOUSLY;
The Gang War is reaching its boiling point. Across the city, Team Spidey is fighting tooth and nail to make gains in territory. To aid in their efforts, Spider-Man and SHE-HULK formed an alliance with TOMBSTONE, who called a meeting with KINGPIN and TYPHOID MARY to attempt to broker a truce between their children BEETLE and THE ROSE. Kingpin had other plans though, and the parley quickly devolved into an all-out brawl between the Spidey trio and Kingpin's Hellfire Club forces. While their fathers had it out downtown, back in Harlem, Beetle and the Rose were duking it out for Diamondback's former territory. Just when Beetle's crew seemed to get the upper hand, Kingpin's Hellfire goons ambushed and overtook them.
MADAME MASQUE has eyes on everything that happens in this war and has called the fight for the Rose, preparing to move the Maggia against him next. She's taken more and more territory as the super-gangs of New York have been squabbling with Team Spidey, and she's primed to win the pot.

Off topic, did you check out the new Avengers twilight comic written by the goat Chip Zdarsky, and art by Daniel Acuna (beautiful art). Its so good, very unique take on Cap like ultimate Spider-Man 2024 in my opinion.
Edit: it even has the goat Alex Ross cover, have to pick it up

At least the good news is this trainwreck is over because my god this gang war is a complete trainwreck from the very beginning, also if you notice something Spider-Man is a side character in his own book again which just sucks because Peter Parker Spider-Man should be the hero of this event but he does nothing in this terrible story.
It’s like zeb genuinely has zero interest in writing about Spider-Man! It’s crazy to me how he’s given the privilege of this book and is just pissing on it
@@mnstash indeed and honestly at this point after writing this much crap 💩 and not getting appreciated for all his hard work at this point I don’t blame him, because apparently even he’s tired of this book and apparently leaving after issue 50 I think which is a good thing because man oh man this series is bad at least in my opinion.
Honestly I’m wondering if after well’s leaves and they bring someone else in to write the book, if we still wanna read it, wells has made this series so bad

How did we get here?
Great review. The 1st four decades of Spider-Man comic stories, no matter which Spider-Man comic it was, have been erased from existence. "ASM" is truly the second 'USM" meaning the "Unamazing Spider-Man". Hopefully, the other USM "Ultimate Spider-Man" continue in the direction it is taking and we the fans get what we want in that universe. We shall see.
However, I'd like to mention, that Jackpot is such a popular character, that Marvel is releasing this character in another comic book or mini-series, "Jackpot and The Black Cat # This new comic could be a comic with a Bisexual relationship between MJ and Felicia. I hope not. No doubt this comic will criticize and mock Peter Parker and how useless he is in a relationship. It's coming. Why doesn't Marvel just get it over with and replace Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Miles Morales/Spider-Man in the Earth-616 universe? Kids are praising this terrible derivative character with the Spider-Man 2 & Insomniac Video games, in the Spiderverse movies, and promoting the Miles Morales/Spider-Man comic. It's a joke. Why is the Miles Morales comic selling for $3.99 when the other comics are $4.99? Why the discount? Because he's a discount character, but that's Marvel's mission, so why not start now. This Peter Parker/Spider-Man doesn't resemble Spider-Man at all. Neither does MJ.
I watched a review of Jackpot # 1 and it was terrible. MJ doesn't look like or act like Mary Jane Watson at all. Spoiler alert. At the end of the comic, MJ says, nonchalantly, "Goodbye Spider-Man". No emotion on seeing Peter, just business as usual for the heroine Jackpot. In fact, she deserves more comic titles than Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It's so pathetic, pitiful, and deplorable. How does Marvel make money? Does Marvel believe the Jackpot character is going to be successful? The comic will probably be canceled by the 10th issue or at the maximum the 25th issue. Does Marvel believe Miles Morales can be as popular as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and carry the company as Spider-man comics did for decades? As much as the Spiderverse movies and the video games are popular,, can Miles Morales maintain his popularity into the 2030s? the 2040s? I think not. Marvel might not be around by then, but who knows. Enough said.
Because that's capitulation? Because trashing Peter and presenting Miles as his superior replacement has always been the intent behind the character? Out of all of the SJW era heroes to come out of the 2010s I would say Miles has the potential to be more than just another activist token character. However, there have already been way better Spiderman successor stories with Miguel, Ben Reilly, and his forgotten daughter Mayday Parker, and the difference is that they were all respectful in passing the torch without stepping on Pete's toes.
Miles could be salvaged, but he is too mired in tokenism by the writers that handle him, the writers that just want a black Peter. It's a shame because if you gave him the Static Shock/Nightwing treatment, gave him his own rogue's gallery, his own town and supporting cast to protect instead of adopting all of Peter's stuff, he could be a really good character.
@@PapaBear77 You make a lot of good points and I 100# agree with you because my main problem with Miles Morales is what you touched on that's why I consider him a terrible derivative character. If the writers would present him per what you mentioned, I might like Miles Morales, but to have a girlfriend named Gwen Stacy was the final straw for me. I was 12 when Gwen Stacy was killed off in "ASM # 121".

Ah, you've been reading longer than I have. I'm 25, my father exposed me to comic books growing up.
I had the same exact thought when Spider-Gwen came about, and it's made even worse when you realize it's a Marvel employee's self insert OC.
Jesus that jackpot issue sounds ROUGH. I’m not sure what the hell they were thinking making a civilian character like MJ into an arrogant’hero’ but it’s just not working at all. Nick Lowe who is the most spineless editor in marvel atm has no idea of what truely makes MJ special and he probably never will since he had a huge part in making her jackpot.
There’s already been a jackpot too which was meant to be Mary Jane however changed last minute I’m pretty sure because of how stupid it was!
You’re right about phasing out Peter, especially in the game. Having him ‘stop being Spider-Man for a while’ when he’s in his mid 20s is funny as hell to me.

Oh you haven't read the new Jackpot yet? It was pretty boring, aside from the amusing tidbit that Paul used tech to alter her magic luck ability to only give her positive outcomes.
