I let my Palisade drain for a good 15-20 mins. After 2 oil changes so far I find 7 quarts brings it EXACTLY to the full line after the filter housing is filled. A good rule of thumb is to pull the dipstick and unscrew the fill cap to relieve any pressure in the cranck case to help better drain it.
I had a 2020 and now have the 2022 and my Oil changes are every 7,500 miles with Full Synthetic oil done by my local Hyundai dealer. Great video by the way. 👍
It is 2023, and I just completed my first oil change by myself and I thank you for your video, I followed what you did step by step. I needed nothing else. btw, that plastic oil filter housing is the scariest thing I encountered, I hated it, I hated being afraid of damaging it. I still don’t understand why the hell Hyundai would use plastic in such an important engine part. I thank you again
I’m with you. I’ll say that it’s not uncommon across brands and I’ve done enough changes that the only rule I live by is hand threading the start. Beyond that, you’ll likely do fine so long as you don’t go full ‘beast mode’. Glad you found it useful and thrilled you took up the challenge. Be well, D.
Great video. Just changed the oil on my Palisade for the first time. I'd been taking it in for the complimentary oil changes provided by Hyundai. Glad I saw this video and just needed to pick up a 27mm socket and was done in just 20 minutes. Thanks again for this nice detailed video.
at the dealership I have a special way of removing the crush washer from the drain bolt when they are really thinned out. I put vise grips on the washer and a socket on the bolt head and turn in reverse comes right off if done the correct way. I do not use the needle-nose locking pliers I use a big pair
Today i got this model in my workshop thanks to your video i found filter🤣😜...sonata have filter on top of the engine...am getting confused and ended up to your video... Regards from Oman..
Glad it worked for you. Just did another change two weeks ago on ours and consulted my video for quick reminder. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Be well. D
My fricken coil pack went bad "rusted out" and I'm not sure if Hyundai is going to cover it yet... I've had it a year and a half ... Still waiting for them to call back
Dang - that sucks! What climate are you in? We just switched up to a '22 so I'll be doing oil again soon and will check on plugs. Here in AZ we see less water.
Most of the main auto supply stores will let you take in an amount of oil per year and/or in exchange for patronage. I take a lot in to my local O'Reillys and they've never given me any issues. They won't take coolant, brake fluid etc. For that you need specialist disposal and/or a special pickup from your local refuse collector.
Hi mate hope you're well. I take it that is the second oil change on that car as they usually get one around 1500mile to get rid of all the engine run in swarf? And what an awkward angular position to put the oil filter, never seen one like that before. Mick 👍🍻
I didn't see the early change recommendation but probably should have given the color of the oil pulled at just 5k miles. Not an awesome angle for the filter but totally workable. Just a little 2-litre, 4-pot at the end of the day with low oil capacity. Have the good Amsoil juice in there now so all will be well. Cheers!
@@johnfreeman440 you can do that. Relying on just the ramp is dangerous. I usually use jack or jack stand and pump it under the control arm... Just enough to put pressure on it. If the ramp fails, jack or jack stand will catch it.
@@DWraysGarage I never said you were a rep. You said it came highly recommended from a guy named Vic in Texas, then you posted his card, he is an amsoil rep. Of course it came highly recommended. I wouldn't expect him to recommend mobile one. The "best oil" debate will go on long after we are dead and gone, I don't have a hill to die on when it comes to oil. Just thought it was funny.
Nice, thanks. But 14mm drain plug (17mm hex) should NOT be torqued to 37 lb-ft. It's more like 22-25 or so.
I agree - not sure what I was thinking.
@@DWraysGarage The actual spec is 37 N-m. That's what confused you.

Thanks Brother. My first Hyundai and it’s first oil change is coming up this week.
It’s always good to know the wrench sizes!
Keep it up!
Thanks. Saved me a lot of time doing my Palisade’s first oil change today.
Thanks this was helpful for my first change on our Palisade. What a weird oil filter setup!
I thought we made advances in oil filters and the ease of changing oil. This looks like we went back in time.

Nice tip. Thanks for the input. Just did another change and was much easier this time.

I am glad my santa fe has oil filter on top of the engine.
Thank you for this. And Amsoil is the best there is! I use it in every vehicle I have!
Great Video, very informative and to the point. Thanks it was as easy as you showed….

Nice work D Wray!
As hes says "quite dark" I said "looks good"..haha! I can see the gold of the oil against the white background as its draining.
drain plug 32 ft lbs and oil filter 27mm socket
Haha. You’re full of jokes today aren’t you? Well done. You should do a tour of your garage. Looks awesome.
Good idea. I'll plan that. Although were light a car right now.
Excellent video

Where do we dispose of the oil? Its my first time changing oil

I own a 2020 Palisade and the oil is always dark. I change the oil every 6K. My Acura sedan can go 7500 miles and the oil looks a lot lighter.
Please prioritize your safety and use Jack stands.
Jack stands and ramps? How does that work?

the oil drain bolt torque spec for the palisade is no more than 32 ft lbs
the oil drain bolt is no more than 32 ft lbs this is right out of the Hyundai shop manual
For sure, I messed up on that one.
I hope you have a cardio doctor near by.. labored breathing is worrying
For sure wasn't my best self at that time. Much healthier now... Be well
Not picking on you brother..
I had the same issue years back
Ended up having some blockage.
Nice video
God bless
do you really need to prime the oil filter?
Need is not a word to use here. I just do it out of habit for those situations where gravity allows. You will be just fine if you skip this step.
Oh! An amsoil rep recommend amsoil? Shocker! Haha!
I'm not an Amsoil rep but, okay. Check most any analysis and the recommendation defies suspicion.

Daniel , no gloves ... 😌 😁
The oil gets dirty cause of the pollution equipmet imho
Busted! Now, shhhhhh! Lol 👊👍
