- Today on Hearts of Iron 4 we return to the No Step Back DLC I try and save a disaster game in which Germany has no air force and can't push into France. It's all a rather big mess.

@@ArturHedlund Meyer is just a German last name. Meyer and its many versions is one of the most common Family last names in Germany.
Also Funfact: the original quote doesnt use 'Meyer', it uses 'Meier' instead (still the same name, just a local difference)
2nd Funfact: there is no actual proof of Göring ever using the original quote. But that didnt stop people in Germany during the war making jokes about him using it.
For generations people will talk of this Great Siege of Amsterdam, the two or three year long epic battle that cost the lives of millions in endless hand to hand combat as democracy held on for its final hope in Western Europe.
They didn't even have blades, bayonets, knives nor forks. They just strangled each other. There was book written by a Dutch militiaman who wrote about his horror how he strangled a Nazi boy to death.

5:30 what probably went wrong was that with the massive equipment deficit, the garrisons could not maintain their occupation force and the resistance kept growing with the lack of equipped forces.
Ngl ai has gotten 200% better. Me as bulgaria having all of the balkans, italy punching through the costlines so they connect with their troops in albania and sending naval invades to turkey later on snaking them to my capital and one also going to yugoslavia's capital. Ugh. I just wanna wend alex a juicy disaster game which hasn't happened yet.
@@nikolatanev1140 I definitely do agree on that. However looking towards the Asian continent, the war has gotten definitely harder for Japan. I don’t see them steamrolling China like they use to and they rarely are able to gain control even over British Malaysia. Of course that has to do more with the AI not yet ready for the new supply system rather than combat decisions but still.
@@LordDaret yeah Japan used to always take out all of Asia by 43 for me but now they barely take the Phillipines and have a near historical China war.

When London falls before Amsterdam
They need to add something to encourage nations to defend their core lands, and something that makes nations pull back troops to defend the mainland if naval invasions succeed. Mostly because no nation is going to give up all its troops to protect an ally when the enemy is walking into your capital.
Reminds me of how Britain will go overseas to fight pointless wars for the benefit of another country but wont stop itself from being demographically replaced in its own biggest cities.
Using "mister generic" is actually often a good idea since the Austrians usually promote hin to fiele marshal and give him the adaptive trait, thereby making him a very good marshal for mountainous and diverse terrain.
You though gave a field marshal a general traut, what was a bit of a waste.
Do general traits not still work for Field Marshals?

-If the plane is bombing you, it's the US Air Force
-if its taking pictures of you it's the RAF
-if its on fire it's a Russian plane
-If its not there at all it's the luftwaffe
one big thing that can make a difference when lacking air is to pull some planes out of the sky and train them. The bonus from being regular itself may not do much, but its so much worse when they're stuck in an infinite loop of being green

if u have low amounts of planes and have nor rubber to produce any significant number, dont waste ur few planes...
train them to highest level and then send them on mission

Kinda hurt when I saw him select all those planes to move around and...they had no mission attached to them. Three or four wings of fighters just chilling taking up space it looked like. 21:32 was one example but I saw one later on that I thought had four.

I dunno that you have to stress 'this' update. I mean I recall Alex having said that since... Waking the Tiger? Before that? Yeah. It's been years where Green Air Mandatory has been a thing really.
Personally I didnt need air until this update. AA is based. Air force is nice but not necessary until now. You need, minimally, fighters to protect supply

The one thing that sucks about the update is that countries can get supply from essentially nowhere, as long as there is a supply hub. There were ~35 british divisions in the congo, with no ports, yet they somehow were always at full supply.
I had that bug with Maginot line supply as well, so frustrating!
THAT was a tough one!
Do love this disaster save game marathon.
Tip: don't attack just a single tile. While you were attacking Amsterdam and pushing them off, fresh troops were moving in from tiles right beside it. If you attacked the entire front you can stop them from being able to move in to Amsterdam. You were essentially letting them rotate in as many troops as they wanted from anywhere on the line while your troops slowly bleed organization and faulter in a single mass charge from one direction without air support.

The afsluitdijk was one of the best defended lines in the Netherlands you have 5 forts at the frysian side and onather 5 at the Holland side this with a chocking point is the ideal defensife point
