Technically, it did have a happy ending. The other teacher threw her teaching license in the trash and started a new life. The Hispanic girl, who was pretty lost at the beginning, became the valedictorian.
Dangerous minds didn't really have a happy ending, Guzmaro got killed, he tried to go to the principal but he wouldn't hear him cuz he didn't knock on the door, or something like that, so it was still kinda bad

What I believe is most powerful about this scene is that Garfield knew no matter what, he was gonna die. He might as well do it teaching Cesar something and that was about how misguided and tragic his life was. He showed all three that he wasn’t afraid to play the game, and he was more than willing to show them what would eventually happen. Great performance, Jackson!

the last scene kinda consternating, i live in a poor southeast asian country, and the film just reflects life in urban and suburban areas of my country. Dysfunction of families negatively impacts on kids'. Many of them just leave house at night and gather with their friends just to rob and murder people who go home from night shifts, they embrace the gang life, all about killing and banging.

I can see the message that all the macho tough guy crap is a big front and in the end it's not worth it, evidenced by the remaining gangbangers that regret the parts they played in what went down at the end

This is a cautionary tale for all those who think being in a gang or being a gang leader will lead to a happy life. Pride and ego will lead to violence and death. After everything the teacher did, Ceaser couldn't be seen as a coward because on the streets of L.A. that's a death sentence. Ceaser knew Stevie and Paco were going to talk and say shit behind his back; no matter if they feared or respected him. Being seen as a coward or not a man was something Ceaser couldn't live with. Having have his finger cut off and Benny killed showed Ceaser wasn't a good leader (hell his gang was known for tagging, not for major crimes like drug and arms dealing) this made him and gang look bad on the streets and lose what ever respect they had or wanted.
Pyrrhic victory on Caesars end he won Russian roulette but lost his respect so in trying to regain it because Garfield took his turn he also lost his life so in reality he gained his respect back but lost his life..... And that's what you call a pyrrhic victory
I think this and the scene from deer Hunter are great when it comes to using Russian roulette that I've seen because one has a choice and the other one was forced.

Ceaser knew Stevie and Paco were going to talk and say shit behind his back; no matter if they feared or respected him. Being seen as a coward or not a man was something Ceaser couldn't live with. Having have his finger cut off and Benny killed showed Ceaser wasn't a good leader (hell his gang was known for tagging, not for major crimes like drug and arms dealing) this made him and gang look bad on the streets and lose what ever respect they had or wanted.
