Braindances are made by having a person scroll (record) their actions into the chip and having a BD editor clean up the footage to make it safe and user friendly. It depends on the BD I guess but as a general rule you feel everything that the person recording felt at the time including emotions, smell, pain, etc. That means if the person scrolling the BD died, then you will know what it feels like to die, it's pretty fucked up. There's a whole black market around recording terrible things like rape, murder, and torture for sick individuals to experience in 1st person. It's hard to completely grasp how they work just from the anime but the game makes is pretty clear how they function through a series of tutorials.

there's a theory that all the movements are basically just pre-rendered impulses cause he does the exact same thing in the second episode. so the chip doesn't actually improve his motor skills it's like activating an ability in a game that just locks you into an animation for a move.

The rollercoaster of emotions you go through in this show is literally crazy the fact cd projekt red came up with such an amazing story in 1 season and studio trigger did their stunning animation as usual is beyond great y’all gonna love this one 👍🏽
Couple terms that you may need to be briefed on. Cyberpsychosis you can probably figure out from context clues, but the basic idea is that in this setting, people 1) can become addicted to body mods like cybernetics, and 2) there's a critical threshold of modification that is beyond the human mind's ability to process, and once you've modded TOO far, you flip your shit and disconnect from the concept of your own humanity. Not all cyberpsychosis means vicious killing sprees, but enough do that the popular image of a cyberpsycho is essentially a superhuman mass shooter. Braindances. You can see in the show that people can jack into VR. That's pretty par for the course. Braindances aren't strictly VR. They're recorded memories lifted from another person's brain (whether their donor is alive or dead) and edited/refined for other people to relive. Extreme Braindances (or 'XBDs') have an illicit appeal a lot like snuff films, a chance to live something that pushes you emotionally to the limit by reliving an event that someone else didn't survive. That bloodbath with the cyberpsycho dying right at the beginning DID happen, it wasn't just a video game. Someone turned that nutjob's death into an Extreme Braindance and sent it to David to sell to the rich kids at his private school.
Chipped skills like you see when David gets fucked up by that bully are a thing. They can't be improved, and you're not actually learning them... but if you want to suddenly become a master at any kind of technical skill like driving, fighting in a particular style, using a camera, you can buy those skills and just plug them in. Major currency in the setting is the Eurodollar (abbreviated 'ED', leading to the nickname 'Eddy'). That spinal implant is a military-grade reflex enhancer, which is genuinely one of the most potent implants in-setting. Going back to the tabletop RPG this is based on, there are accounts of things like it making a person fast enough to catch bullets AFTER they've been fired. Like, mid-air. Granted, said person would need to buy a new HAND afterward, but if you're already chromed, you were probably going to get to that eventually.

I agree, kind of. The dub is really good, I still like Japanese voices just as much, but the subtitles are fucking awful, and the slang used in the dub really adds to the cyberpunk feel, cyberpunk slang is a staple in this kind of setting.

this show is a emotional rollercoaster, the build up is amazing, the character development is top notch, the plot goes by kinda fast, but not fast as rushed, and the end, well, if you listened "i really want to stay in your house", after the last ep, this song will have a whole different meaning. to me, the best show netflix delivered till now, the art is just beautiful, the colors, the ost, it just mashes up into a very well done journey, and man, what a journey, i watched the first episode and couldnt stop. i'm glad this was created, it gives me hope for more amazing game adaptations, but i guess this will probably be the masterpiece and the top anime based off a video game, for a long, long, long time. one more thing: becca best girl hahahaha
Bruh I’ve had a top 10 anime list for decades now cuz they’ve been that good but somehow this masterpiece has just popped up and slotted itself onto that list! It’s just that amazing!
1 thing to note about Braindances (they're called BD's a lot), they're closer to AR which is augmented reality, so it's more advanced than your typical VR in that you can actually tie your own senses to the BD. It's also important to note that a BD is basically recorded from an actual person's perspective, it's a literal recording of someone's life for a period of time, and tying your own senses to theirs is essentially like putting yourself in their shoes for what was recorded.
This show straight up made me play the game after I finished, I put in like 130 hours after the show dropped with maybe one or two actual bugs in my entire playthrough on PC, as of update 1.6 stuffs lookin preem. The fact that you can legit go to almost every location shown in the anime was a great touch and it really makes the game and the show feel like they have more weight. I think just recently CDPR was really excited because this was their 4th consecutive week with over a million active players. And with 1.7 and the DLC coming up in the next year or so its worth it for new players for sure.

They've actually updated the game alot since then and recently added a quest that ties into the anime!
They also added gear (weapons, clothing) from the anime into the game. The anime is canon to the game and takes place before the games starts.

1 thing to note about Braindances (they're called BD's a lot), they're closer to AR which is augmented reality, so it's more advanced than your typical VR in that you can actually tie your own senses to the BD. It's also important to note that a BD is basically recorded from an actual person's perspective, it's a literal recording of someone's life for a period of time, and tying your own senses to theirs is essentially like putting yourself in their shoes for what was recorded.
Man, this show is a roller-coaster and it singlehandedly brought life back into the cyberpunk game.

This show straight up made me play the game after I finished, I put in like 130 hours after the show dropped with maybe one or two actual bugs in my entire playthrough on PC, as of update 1.6 stuffs lookin preem. The fact that you can legit go to almost every location shown in the anime was a great touch and it really makes the game and the show feel like they have more weight. I think just recently CDPR was really excited because this was their 4th consecutive week with over a million active players. And with 1.7 and the DLC coming up in the next year or so its worth it for new players for sure.
