So to help make some terms and in universe mechanics for Cyberpunk more easy to understand going in for the people who haven't played the game (no spoilers):
Slang:
"Choom" (choomba) - friend, family, dude
"Gonk" - idiot
"Eddies" or "EDs" - short for EuroDollar, the currency in Night City
"scratch" - money or payment
"Zero" or "flatline" - Kill or die
"kibble" - synthetic low grade food
"Chrome" - cybernetic enhancements (i.e. metal arms and legs and eyes)
"Chrome Jock" - someone always looking for the next upgrade
"Borg" - someone who's gone past being a cyborg and replaced nearly all organic matter with cybernetics
"Cyberpsycho" - someone whos gone insane after too many cybernetic upgrades
"StreetKid" - a street rat, gangster, thug, etc.
"Nomad" - drifter, someone who lives outside the big cities and travels
"Corpo" or "Suit"- someone who works for a corporation, this can be anyone from a CEO to an intern
"Fixer" - street level criminal who gets jobs done, including hitmen, smugglers, and dealers
"Mover" - Corpos on the lower end of importance who hope to rise through the ranks, they often hire fixers to get things done for corpo elites
"Power dealer" - someone important, either a celebrity, world politician, or high ranking corpo
"cyberpunks" - general term, often referring to low-lives that commit crime
"Edgerunners" - a cyberpunk who performs in unorthodox or risky ways (living on the edge)
Common Cybernetic enhancements:
Cyberoptics, - artificial eyes (pretty much everyone has them), lets you see facetime calls and notifications, they light up during calls or when interfacing with tech
cyberaudio enhancers - artificial ear implants, lets you make phone calls at all time (pretty much everyone has them)
interface plugs - basically SD slots on peoples necks to hold cyberchips that enhance skills/abilities as well as a digital wallet or some BDs (pretty much everyone has them)
interface jack - basically a USB jack (usually in your wrist) that let you talk with computers using your mind (common tech, especially for tech specialists)
Chip - programs, often referring to items you plug into your neck
in universe terms:
Wreath - basically VR glasses that let you use a BDs
BD or Braindance - a VR/AR simulation, can be made by recording people's memories and burning to a drive
XBD - Extreme Braindance, i.e. porn, snuff films, and illegal 'videos' of all kinds
Netrunning - the ability to travel through the net by uploading your mind into it and traveling through it like it is a physical location, often used for hacking
Black Ice or "Ice" - basically a firewall, capable of killing someone who tries "netrunning" places they don't belong
Ripper doc - someone who replaces organics with Chrome
Maxtac - cyberpsycho control unit, basically the swat team
Arasaka - one of the big corporations in Night City, Japan owned information security service
Militech - one of the big corporations in Night City, makes military grade weapons and enhancements
There's more but these are the big ones that aren't explicitly explained, if you want a great spoiler free (in terms of the edgeruners and 2077) intro to cyberpunks world/lore, TheNeonArcade made 2 videos that does a great job going over all the major keypoints and i highly suggest watching it either before or after finishing edgerunners
Watching the show clarifies all of these to anyone with half a brain. I never played the game but the world building in the anime is so good I didn't need to
@@ILikeCHEEZ9 Im glad people can still comprehend things through context. But unfortunately everyone doesnt pick up on things as quick as you. So this type of glossary could be helpful for some folks.
@NC Hawks Fan eh don't do that. Never said anything about being smart nor quick. I said half a brain and praised the show for world building. They make it very explicit. It's so arrogant like everyone else is too stupid to understand when people try to explain the show instead of just letting people watch and enjoy for themselves
@@ILikeCHEEZ9 that’s kindof a trope in the genre. Books like Neuromancer are full of buzzwords that are never explained, but you pick up on it based only on context. It’s something I love about the genre

FYI, Trauma Team is not just insurance. Trauma Team is a private mercenary force that you pay for. They will send in a paramilitary and medical force to clear out any hostiles and rescue you from any bad situation, including administering life-saving medical procedures in the field. NCPD will back off and stay out of TT's way. The response time and level of force committed depend on the level of your contract (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum). That's why they ignored David and his mom. They weren't there for them; they were there for their client who were involved in the shootout.

Also she was working for the city ambulance, not the high end private Trauma Team.

@Ian Moone I don't think Little Stranger was in the game. I'm pretty sure the opening, ending and Little Stranger were recorded just for this. The rest of the soundtrack is 100% in the game if you look for it ir spend enough time listening to the radio.
Excited to finally watch your reaction to this incredible show! Also a cool fact is all of the music in this is from the video game. Some of the songs used in this episode were "Who's Ready for Tomorrow" by Rat Boy & IBDY, and "Major Crimes" by HEALTH & Window Weather. The only two songs not from the game are "This Fffire" and the original song "Let You Down" by Dawid Podsiadło which has a separate animated music video that I would love to see you guys react to sometime.
There's a PC mod that has all the music from the show on a radio station. It's great for cruising around Night City.

David Martinez has a lot of anxiety to begin with hence the leg shaking (I have the same type of ticks as him) that’s usually developed due to a constant amount of pressure being put on them

I'm really glad that there's a range of familiarity with the game on the couch! Most group reactions are all pretty uniform with what they know. And it's especially great that Chris is *very* familiar so they didn't get hung up on the braindance thing right away that even a lot of viewers who've played the game didn't fully understand how it works. Since they knew that that all actually happened with the Norris (the cyberpsycho in the first scene), they were able to instantly figure out that Gloria took the Sandevistan which David now has, and that's a lot more than I can say for most reactors! Show's great, excited to see more!
A lot of the themes that Chris picked up on are part of a whole genre of media known as "cyberpunk" (lowercase C), this does include Bladerunner, Altered Carbon, Deus Ex, and most recently Cyberpunk 2077.
The game has improved a lot over the past few years and is in a great state right now. Still features I'd love to see in the game but many of those are coming in the expansion this year.
You absolutely can get a really good education at a public school. To say that the only way to get a good education in the US is through a private school is ridiculous on all levels

Was super surprised by this show. It really captured that bleak dazzle of Night City and made me play it again.
David's Voice Actor is the same guy who does Tanjiro in Demon Slayer Dub
I love how this show really shows how messed up this world is, and how little value life has.
But the soundtrack is PERFECT, some is from the game, but I LOVE the Health track that plays throughout the show, it matches the mood so well.
I just recently finished playing the game after watching this anime and its a good transition into the world. The anime shares ALOT of references from the game, being it takes place in the same city a few years prior to the main story lol.
So glad that you guys are finally reacting to Edgerunners! It's gonna be a wild ride, chooms. And time for me to embrace the depression again. Hold on tight, hewego!
Regarding the developer being Polish, there are a few Polish artists represented in the OST.
The ED is one of them, and in one of the episodes they actually have a Reggae song with Polish lyrics.
I like how the intro is basically what the game is like.
It's finally happening. I'm so glad it's the dub too, they did such a great job with it, and the actors knocked it out of the park.
I think the narrative for this is good considering how little time the creators had to work with. The soundtrack and themes are amazing though.
Really impressed by the discussion you guys were having. I hope you guys keep up this presence in future episodes. Would be great if Suraj and rana join in. This is show is dark from the get-go and it's a warning for our future. One of the best things this year.

Yay!!! This anime moved into my top 10 anime series
The original Cyberpunk was a roleplaying game made by the great Michael Pondsmith (look him up!) way back in the 1980s. Hoo boy.
Yeah the game was in a HORRENDOUS state on consoles at launch. But for people who played it on PC (like me) it was actually a very enjoyable and well written gaming experience.
Love the set, but only a 4 seater couch? :(

This series they made based on cyberpunk is basically a masterpiece in my opinion. Very little to actually criticize about it. Unless you prefer a slower pacing but for the amount of episodes available they handled pacing pretty well with what they had.

Right now is probably the best time to get back into the game. It's far more stable than at launch, they fixed a lot of problems (some remain), and did a really good job of implementing story threads from Edgerunners into the game. "Cyberpunk 2077" is good on consoles but recommend playing it on PC because of the vast amount of mods the modding community has created for the game.

dub is the way to go with this tho.
In the English dub you can hear how just like in the game, everyone speaks their own languages. You can hear some people speak japanese, or spanish, or english with different accents, because Night City as a cultural melting pot.
If you listened to the Japanese dub, all of the diversity and nuances are lost.
The soundtrack and the animation style are perfectly combo'd. This series was amazing, hope the studio gets more work.

This show is a 10/10. I bought the game on release but I had a last gen console and the bugs made it unplayable. After I watched this show I went back and completed the game 100%

In regards to where we are now as compared to Cyberpunk, I'd quote another great cyberpunk game, “It's not the end of the world, but we can see it from here.”
TRAUMA TEAM IS NOT A PARMEDIC. It is a private company that basically deploys a swat team to your location to save your life in various different situations. So yeah, it just goes to show how entitled modern people are.

You could argue they wouldn't have gotten in the wreck if David just got the upgrade because then they would not have had to stay behind for the meeting with the principle.
Everytime I see what happens to the mom, I can't help but wonder. Did she really stabilize? He can't visit cause his package is too cheap...what's to stop the place from just taking her apart for the black market? Even the thing at the end tries to keep you from having the body sent anywhere. " We will just cremate them for you"

Yes, CD Projekt Red is Polish. I played CP2077 on launch on PC and it was fine. It had bugs but nothing crippling. The problem most people had was trying to play it on underpowered hardware.
That said, it's MUCH better now.
"Even if he got the upgrade , he would still be in the accident" in the bigger picture, yes there is always a risk in night city, in this specific one. No, if david would have gotten the update then they wouldnt have had the talk at the academy, then his mom would still live. so yeah, people can be angry with him.
but on the other hand (like some other youtuber pointed out) if his mom would have just hit the breaks and steered away fron the shooting as soon as the first shot were fired, they also could have avoided the accident.
If you want to consider " The OG content" It is better to consider this an example of the original R. Talsorian TTRPG, Rather than the video game by CDPR.
For public clarification on one of the fundamental features of the Cyberpunk setting, Cyberpsychosis and how it manifests as a control mechanic for "gameplay"....
The way cybernetic implants works in general is: Every piece you install cost you a portion of your humanity, sometimes more, sometimes less. It depends on many factors including how extreme an implant it is, for example: a prosthetic replacement or a natural item that merely replicates normal function is not as dramatic as a military hardware with weapons and extras. Another factor is how the process was performed: in a sterile "with anesthetic" environment, by the finest professionals with counseling and treatment or..... Fully conscious + no pain killers by a psycho in a back alley. All of that chips away at whatever levels of humanity and empathy you had in the 1st place whether it be high or low. Add to that any naturally occurring traumatic events that damage your psyche in the 1st place..... And once your humanity/empathy reaches 0 you go Cyberpsycho. That represents a severe disassociative break with reality, and often results in a violently rampaging heavily modified cyborg. Fun times.
Its a different apartment. In the game now you can visit where David lived and find a secret there waiting for you.

To mention your curiosity to online play, there are some super talented modders working on a polished multiplayer port using Lua. Not sure an ETA but them using Lua might speed the process a little bit!

Gurren Lagaan is by studio Gianax, the same studio who did Eureka 7 old ones and Evangelion
I played the game when it came out at launch and it would crash every hour. But I did my second playthrough after this anime came out and they have definitely fixed nearly all the glitches. Didn't crash a single time on my second playthrough. I would highly recommend this game to others now who haven't played it yet.
Btw the music in the game/anime is sooo insanely good!

Something fun to keep in mind... david has adhd. They tell you this with showing shots of david fidgeting. Unable to stay still. Hes extremely smart but cant apply it due to his adhd. They never mention it but a lot about davids personality revolves around his adhd.

Cyberpunk 2077 definitely underrated 100% the game story was good. definitely in a better state now sadly should have been like that from start.
I had a clean play through as well on my first run and I was on ps4 but I've always had luck with glitches in games.

I'll just say it like this. When people say the game was broken for them. I ask them. Console or pc. And almost all the problems were on consoles.
Pc had issues but the majority of people playing pc version had almost no real problems.

I got MAD lucky. And got it for Xbox Series X and it was AMAZING 👏🏾 it ONLY crashed for me twice 🙌🏾
