Just when I thought I'd exhausted all the QOTSA on the internets... THANK YOU! 🖤🖤🖤 Taking the opportunity to show ❤️ for "How To Handle A Rope" cuz it deserves ❤
I put this together as a huge QOTSA fan as two new early demos were released last night and I just had to put it all together in a rough demo compilation! The Homme Demo Original tracklist goes: - The Bronze - Version #1 - The Bronze - New VOX - Sherbert - How To Handle A Rope - Oppenheimer’s Brother V1 - Oppenheimer’s Brother V2 Obviously I don’t have The Bronze Demos and Rope demos, or the second Brother's track, so I put together an idea of what the demo would sound like played through! Working on some more QOTSA covers don't worry, just really wanted to make this! So cool that there still is possibly a lot of QOTSA demo stuff to come :)
I remember when I discovered QOTSA through Songs for the Deaf as a teen, I became obsessed with their music and searched high and low on Limewire for anything related to Josh Homme. Sometimes, I ended with crap or wrongly titled files after an hour's download time. This compilation takes me back, thanks for the effort putting this out in an organised manner.
That's how I feel about it and "If Only Everything". This version and the soundboard of it from Bob's Garage are superior to what appears. Hell, all of the Bob's Garage performance is.
I always wished that QotSA had kept McBain as guitarist. I feel that with him from Monster Magnet, and Alfredo Hernandez from Yawning Man, they could’ve Gone a much more psychedelic jammier stonier direction.
Personally I couldn't be happier that Homme had enough pop sensibility, and more importantly, capability, to write radio-friendly songs with the tastiest hooks and sonic landscapes of the millennia. Stoned jamming is great when you're taking part yourself but such noodling is absolutely pointless to actually listen to, no matter how fucked up I find myself lads jerking each other off around the blues scale for 15 minutes a song just doesn't pleasure my brain.
@@dgguitars4091 Yes sir, California and New Mexico. The entire palm springs desert rock scene makes for some great experiences when you're surrounded by nothing but an endless sea of sand and some good friends.
Sherbert sounds like a song that was meant for a Wellwater Conspiracy album rather than a QotSA album. So did Oppenheimer's Brother. Josh did join that band for a very brief moment. I honestly don't think they're QotSA songs at all. I would love to hear why they're on that original Demo
Ooh haven’t heard of that one! Loving finding even more possible tracks out there, I’ve listened to everything available as far as I’m aware so the more the better!
Where did you get that info from? I'm not doubting you, just curious. Otis, Rickshaw, and Mule all sound from the same session. Then there's the fact that No One Knows is from 1997 (if not earlier), and some of this stuff (at least Rickshaw) found release on Desert Sessions. Homme was churning out songs and riffs almost non-stop between late 1996-1997.
It would be nice if Homme's ex were available to comment on whether or not she ever heard any demos of No One Knows from 1997. Josh specifically mentioned that the song existed around the time in an interview from around the time of Songs for the Deaf.
I don't think that's anything more than him mentioning the riff appearing in the song Cold Sore Superstar Desert Sessions 7&8. Could have been like The Evil Has Landed having a main riff that he wrote in 2002 where he just has the riff on record but nothing fully fleshing out the idea for it to be a full song.
It still amazes me how long he has been making kick ass music. Even the last album is better than 95% of what's out there. The only comparison is Dave Grohl, but his music has become so vanilla.
It's insane I know! I really wish to be able to do what he can do, music making wise, just getting better and better, really hope I can do that. I agree, not a fan of Foo Fighters now tbh, only like the first album and most of wasting light!
I wouldn't even bother comparing them. Two very different types of music. Honestly, I don't think you can compare anyone to QOTSA. They are in a league of their own.
8:58 im not sure if this oppenheimer's brother is right. It maybe be legit, cause the voice kinda seems like homme overdubed and the early wellwater conspiracy stuff. But the otis and the hookup already was leaked before titled as oppenheimer's brother. And otis is very similar to a chorus of a track homme worked later (unkle - chemistry).
It’s correct as this was confirmed by Homme’s ex who posted this video/audio, she showed pictures of the tapes, that is the real Oppenheimer’s brother, the other one was wrongly named for some reason. This has all be confirmed now! :)
@@dgguitars4091 Otis and the Hookup was listed as "Oppenheimer's Brother" on MySpace around 2008 or 2009 by a rekordsrekords forum user that went by (Blank). The same user is the source for the early Rickshaw demo.
@@nameless646 It's likely Blank was mistaken and wasn't close enough to clear it up. Or it's possible they both used the song as a working name before settling on something else later on. Josh has talked about having songs be similar to each other like family or living in the same neighborhood.

Early QOTSA sounds like a mixture of The Circus Leaves Town, Kyuss's non-LP material (like Mudfly), and the "robot riff rock" of S/T.
