- Update 2021: The real name of this song seems to be Otis & The Hook Up due to a resurfaced tape.
Quote from thefade.net
"This is the first demo QOTSA did prior to releasing the first album. It was recorded at Jupiter Studios in Seattle in either late 1997 or early 1998. The line-up for the recording was: Josh - guitar, John McBain - guitar, Mike Johnson - bass, and Alfredo Hernandez - drums. This demo was made to give record companies a taste of the band, as QOTSA was unsigned when this was recorded."
Tracks:
The Bronze
How to Handle a Rope
Mexicola
Oppenheimer's Brother
Sherbert
I got this song from an old Rekord Rekords Forum thread. It really catches the prosess from Kyuss to Queens
This is my favourite song ever. By far. I listen to it at least once a week...Makes me miss the good ol' days. Gotta love early QOTSA
According to former Monster Magnet guitarist John McBain, who played on some of the early QotSA & Desert Session demos, this is not the real Oppenheimer’s Brother (which in all likelihood will never surface to the public). McBain says that this is most likely an unnamed Kyuss demo jam that didn’t make it onto “…And the Circus Leaves town” or the Kyuss/QotSA split EP.
It just surfaced, finally.

I got this from song from LimeWire back in the day, but it was labeled as “Desert Sessions outtake” or something like that
with you pay attention to this song, you will hear traces of Rodeo, No One Knows and Leg Of Lamb! very well played, Joshua Homme
Great Ear! 2:39 - 2:56 is def No one knows. Then 2:56 - 3:13 is Leg of lamb part
If I had a tail at the start aswell but he plays the lyrical part on guitar
Good ears
First time ever hearing this, been a major Queens fan since 2003. this is that sweet spot between Kyuss and Queens that I LOVE. I was checking out my favorite: Rickshaw... and ended up here. thank you so much man, this is fucking great!
One of the greatest songs of all time
This song is so chill and underrated
Shit, this is nice. This easily could have been on Welcome to Sky Valley
Definitely gives me more of a Circus vibe
Shame Queens do not make more instrumentals, wtf Josh? Hispanic Impressions was awesome
I’d imagine it has a lot to do with Alfredo leaving the band. Alfredo used to do a lot of jammy instrumental type things back in Yawning Man, even in Kyuss too with Josh.
Probably my favorite song by QOTSA, gives me really good vibes.
I'll post Sherbert this afternoon
Hmmmm.... I hear #Kyuss !!! Love #QOTSA 🎸✌️
You can hear leg of lamb in this song
Love
It
Most underrated QOTSA song!
smells like kyuss
This song may not be Oppenheimers brother but this song gives off Oppenheimer vibes more than Oppenheimers brother himself
This song perfectly captures what a hopeless nuclear apocalypse would sound like
Dude, where did you get these ? And the pictures ? WHERE ! ?
@WitchHazelSessions Thanks man. And yeah, I'm with you. I'm trained as a bassist but I play guitar and a bit of keys, and i sing.
doing the robot to this song rn
This is from the gamma ray demo
reminds me SO much of Leg of Lamb at 1:38
You can hear the In My Head chord progression...
Anybody know a tab for this song?
Did Mr. Homme have dreadlocks as a young man?
I know he had rastas at one point in the Kyuss era - maybe dreadlocks also?
You can kinda hear Chemical in this
