The reason you find a lot of alcohol shops in Coorg is because drinking is part of the culture there. Whether it is someone's birth, death, wedding, any other event, they drink. And it's normal for women , aunts , uncles and everyone to drink together. I'm not a Coorgi but I love their hospitality. Very fun loving people and brave - many of them are part of the defence forces.
We Kodava(coorgies) drink more of homemade wine, shops are more(not more liquor shops or pubs much as Bangalore or mysore though) becoz other communities don't drink wine as they wish for whiskey run beer etc n also lot tourists prefer it so can't help but open as part of business ✌️
