I love mine. 🤷🏻♂️ I see so much hate online, but the dealers can't get them in, much less keep one on the lot at all if they display it. I understand that it's not the WRX hatchback that the people wanted- I think if they had offered that AND this 2.5 RS people would be a lot happier. It is a really fun car to drive. More usable space than my '15 CRV which I hated.
The cost of that motor to build and produce would make this car more expensive than the wrx. Now I would personally rather have a high revving N/A engine for fun to drive reasons and think the new wrx is a turd but that engine makes zero sense when the wrx exists
I have an 07 non turbo and it's on it's last legs. I'm definitely picking up the RS model when I get around to affording it. Such a huge upgrade to what I'm used to dealing with.
Was going to order one of these but changed my mind. Was going to replace my 2013 crosstrek. Heard about alot of Eyesight system glitches and premature windshield cracks. Done with Subaru.
It really is something else. I test drove all the competition in this hatchback/price range. This is the best driving AWD option for the price in my opinion. That said- if you don't need the AWD and want a truly SPORT capable car, I'd probably say go with the Mazda 3 or Civic hatch. I don't need a sports car- I needed a reliable new AWD for my job and this is it.
Heh. Yeah, in an ideal world, they should bump up their whole lineup. AWD is nice but I'd rather get a 2.5L Mazda 3 if it's faster due to lower weight and no AWD drivetrain loss. 2.5RS 170 -> 200HP BRZ 225-> 250HP WRX 271 -> 295

Gotta agree with you here. It’s an RS but not sporty at all. Mike said it feels safe. I can’t imagine my mum or anyone buying one of these because it’s nice and safe and slow lol, should be somewhat sporty. I’m confused by what Subaru are doing these days
@@evank7113 You people act as though the WRX doesn't exist. This is for people that don't want 24 mpg car that they weren't going to speed in anyway in order to avoide speeding tickets. This car is for people who can afford $28k-$30k and want a nice car that gets the job done.
The new RS would have been a hit and a step in the right direction for Subaru IF they kept the manual transmission. The NA 2.5 still would have been fun, especially with the upgraded suspension and handling, if they offered it with a 5 or 6 speed instead of the indecisive, soulless CVT.
I feel like this really should've gotten either 200hp or the brz engine. And knowing Subaru, they have probably locked the engine down in the RS quite a bit like the 2015 Impreza I drive, so gaining more horsepower will be pretty expensive.
After watching several 0-60 mph videos of the new RS, I'm not impressed at all with 8+ seconds. Meanwhile the Mazda turbo 2.5 can do 0-60 in under 7 sec (I've seen people hit mid 6's easily). There's not incentive for people to buy this car, Subaru is such a crock when it comes to real performance nowadays, but they do drive nice and have a superior AWD system.
Great review! I like the detailed explanation of the car, features and of course the scenery! I am considering an RS and need to test drive one, however at the very minimum would have liked to have more horse power and cvt or same horse power + automatic transmission. Hope that reliability with cvt will be high.
Great video as usual thanks A8 ! Regarding this RS: love it except for the CVT Subaru should propose a 6 speed manual in option !!! Then I could consider buying one ;)
I am a huge Subaru fan and own an 2017 Impreza and I don't understand that people keep talking about 0-60 time so much.. with this climate crisis, quality of driving and safety should be the foremost interest for any drivers. I also own Tesla model 3 and I honestly think that 0-60 obsession with any ICE car needs to be over. With electric motors, you can get sub 4 sec effortlessly. I still love my impreza though and I drive back and forth between two cars.
Except blind spot and cross traffic monitoring is not standard in the trim below the RS and is unavailable in the base trim. You have to pony up a big chunk of change for those and at that point the RS trim is cheaper. It's my black mark on the Impreza. If you want blind spot and cross traffic, you basically have to buy the RS.

I’m really close to buying this or a Mazda 3 hatch/sedan. I’m 28 and my priorities are smooth ride, quite on the highway, good audio system, engaging drive, sunroof. I’ll be driving the RS this weekend and I already drove the Mazda 2.5 carbon edition. I loved how the Mazda drove, felt purpose built as a cruisers with modern design enveloping you inside. Not the biggest fan of Subaru’s rugged brash interior, it try’s hard to look modern and cool but it’s got more space (airy interior) for the money. Hmmmmmm this would be leased and financed as a long term car. Some have said the Mazda interior squeaks and rattles early and it seems they don’t hold value as much an Impreza.
This looks really good and I got pretty excited about it but it is disappointingly slow. 0-60 in 9 seconds for ~$30,000 is insane. Got excited for Subaru again but they continue to disappoint.
Everyone keeps saying put the BRZ engine in this. Does anyone realize how expensive that engine is and would cost to put into this car? Misses the point of the rs. The rs never had a special engine it was an appearance and handling package. The only thing this car needs is the short ratio 6sp manual from the wrx. If Subaru put that in this car it would be looked at a lot differently
