That's why Rare was the best at the time. Even Nintendo said that they were surprised how they managed used every single bit of storage for a game. Conker's bad fur day is a good example
Yup. I love and hate this game. I'm having a run with it these days and it was all fine and peachy, up until the damn coin challenges came. Specifically with the hover craft....holy shit. *grinds teeth*
The bosses were tough but to me the hardest thing was unlocking the clock as a character. You had to race against yourself in every level, both mirrored and non mirrored. So if you played your best in the first run of the game, you're gonna have to be even better. Overall this game was rewarding and one of my favourites.
I always liked how nice the bosses were to you. Taught me a lot about sportsmanship when I was little. Wizpig was a great example of how NOT to act when you lose
I didn't have too much trouble with the octopus, but the dragon on the other hand was a real pain for me. The silver coin challenge is also pretty bad.
the fact that he's fucking laughing at you the whole time...! Fuck that stupid octopus. I remember feeling so pleased when I finally kicked his ass and the horror of realizing mirror mode would mean having to do it all over again. I did 100% the game but I still hate that octopus.
I only ever managed it with Pipsy. The weird thing was the first race with him was by far and large the hardest because of no powerups. I definitely had to try it at LEAST 15 times. The 2nd race I finished within the first few.
7 year old me: "I will never figure out how to beat the Wizpig." 29 year old me, right now: "Oh, so that's how you beat him. I had been wondering about that."
This game was and is criminally underrated. Of course, you have a Mario Kart on N64, but this game is so well made, i even think that is more original and complete than Mario Kart. I love both games, but Mario kart is bigger maybe just for the characters.
They had the whole multivehicle thing down before even Mario Kart. The balloon power stacking in this game alone is a much smarter option to have than just random weapon cubes thrown around the stage.
I like this better than mario kart since this game didn't get ultra spammed, this game is truly unique. Mario kart only has kart races where diddy kong allowed for 3 different vehicles.
I loved F-Zero X over Mario Kart because at least the AI was a little more fair. They would attack you to keep you from taking first, but were prone to going off course rather than driving off the track and taking shortcuts.
That's because wizpig is a porky ass dictator who was obsessed with racing. And, similar to n. oxide, he wanted to assert his dominance by putting all the best racers against each other and then have the best racer (you) face him to determine weather or not he would rule over.
Nope I too found that incredibly unfair and just plain a dick move. However the rewarding feeling of beating them even though they cheated was a feeling or pure elation
@@AndysNuWorld That's why the first wizpig race is probably the hardest race in the game. Wizpig gets a massive head start and you get no balloon rockets or boosts. All you get are the speed boost ramps.
No. I tried hundreds of time to beat the first Wizpig race. I do think that the second one was easier than the first. With your first encounter, you CANNOT miss any of the speed boosters. You have to have almost a flawless race. No landing in the water or driving too much time over the grass. If you hit more than one tree, that's it for you.
That's totally me and my brother when we were kids. It was impossible to defeat wizpig without that trick and we didn't know because we didn't speak english back then, we thought that there was a shortcut in the stage or something but we never found it. We ended up believing that "you can't beat me" was true. Until years passed we readed on the internet how to use the trick and we were mindblowed. Such a simple trick but we were day after day stuck there, trying to figure out what we were doing wrong. It was a nightmare and we still can't forget it even after completing the game like 5 times. Cursed be this game and those who didn't translate it to spanish
This indeed is one of the best racing games...ever period. Too this day I still think it's better than mario kart, can you imagine if this game got a sequel or a remake on the switch?
I always found the 2 hardest bosses were Tricky & Wizpig. The other 3 weren't bad as once you got in front of them it was easy to maintain the lead as they were actually slower than you for the most part. It's just getting in front of them is a pain. For Tricky, although he is slightly slower, the tight turns and limited space to get in front makes trying to get in front of him a pain especially in the rematch; basically either do it in the beginning or your pretty much screwed. Wizpig (both rounds) I found was actually impossible with Timber and you had to use another character (Timber is ranked with lowest top speed in game despite being a Tiger (she is the worst character in game with 2/5 for Top Speed and Handling & 3/5 for acceleration while Diddy is 3/5 everything so logic)). So much nostalgia for this game.
I found Smokey the hardest aside from Wizpig. ONce he got ahead of you it was extremely difficult to catch up. Tricky Was easy because even if he got ahead of you, you could just take the shortcut, unless you didn't have the blue balloon then it wouldn't work.
Bass EXE in my opinion Tricky was easy both times. You just have to use your rockets wisely, plus there is a shortcut you can take to get in front of him for a commanding lead, he also slows down at the finish line giving you another edge. I found Bluey 2, Smokey 2, and Wizpig both times to be the hardest. Bubbler actually wasn't as bad as people made him out to be, just get around all of his bullshit and use rocket and booster power ups to your advantage, once you get in front of him the race is yours. Bluey the second time he's faster than you and you really have to make some careful turns to avoid hitting walls or else he will pull ahead bigtime. Smokey 2 he spits out tons of fire and some parts of the map are narrow. Wizpig is easily the toughest in the game both times. The first time you have to be flawless with the booster tricks, and the second time there are tons obstacles to avoid.
The amount of time it took me to beat the Wizpig. I literally thought it was impossible. Usually the first time you face every boss, it's easier than the 2nd one, but am i the only one who thought the 1st race you face the Wizpig was much harder than the 2nd one.???
BoyDanny93 Me too! Maybe because you know how to do it the second time, or maybe because you can actually do a mistake without MESS UP THE WHOLE FUCKING RACE
The reason being that the 2nd race is easier is because you get power ups, either speed boost or missiles to put em up his ass and slow him down. The first race he is incredibly fast and you get nothing but zippers to speed you up every now and then. Even if you perfectly time all of them you stay behind until the 3rd lap is were you can finally pull ahead. If you mess up once you might as well start over and thats what made the 1st race AIDS.
Luis Banjo later appeared in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing for the XBOX 360 (as much as Minecraft: XBOX 360 Edition in which Mojang was bought by Microsoft also) Sadly, he didn't appear in the PS3 version of Minecraft His last appearance is Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (for the Game Boy Advance) which THQ released a few years ago

Then one day while I was tryna to beat Wizpig my big brother came in and saw what was going on, he saw that I was gonna rage quit in the middle of just the first lap and something happened that I'll never forget.. he said: "never give up lil bro', just keep going, life is tough but you just gotta keep going". That same day I finally beat Wizpig and that's a life lesson I carry always with me. Daniel Diamondminer Rareware was still the one who made the DS version. Everyone says the same thing "if Rare didn't leave Nintendo" but that had absolutely nothing to do with it (also no mention of how it was actually Nintendo who dropped Rareware not the other way around)
I think the same...how about the race with the dragon? EMBARASSING, it's so damn easy i couldnt even joy about my victories. And what about the first race with wizpig? No thunders, no storm, if you do a mistake you can still win. There's also the silver coin challenge that has been removed, but I don't want to cry right now. Speechless.
In some ways, Diddy Kong was better than Mario Kart 64. However its big flaw was the pointless collect-a-thon they forced you to do to advance the story.
It was great having a story mode, but sometimes it felt repetitive, because of having collectibles on a racing game, it's a racing game, not a collectathon platformer
Saddens me they never made a sequel for this, was one of my favorite games. I remember how happy I felt when I completed this game 100% such an epic feeling, really had to work hard for it lol With that ending I kept thinking we were gonna get another game but sadly never happened. Damn you Rare!
Here what I think about them: Tricky the Triceratops- Mischief Dinosaur Bluey the Walrus- Fancy Sea Mammal Bubbler the Octopus- Gurgling Cephlapod Smokey the Dragon- Medival Reptile Wizpig- Galaxy Swine
Caleb Frederick Again, I think the same...how about the race with the dragon? EMBARASSING, it's so damn easy i couldnt even joy about my victories. And what about the first race with wizpig? No thunders, no storm, if you do a mistake you can still win. There's also the silver coin challenge that has been removed, but I don't want to cry right now. Speechless.
This game was AMAZING, open world, car hovercraft and plane, fun characters, great music... My btother and I melted the cartridge from too much playing!
It’s so cute when they r all dancing after u beat Wizpig :3 Ouo but he comes Wizpig: Well lookie here, it’s the little worm! Me: Well lookie here, it’s the big meanie! *As I see him fly off into space*
I remember reading that Wizpig is 600cm in height, making him over 19ft, and apparently the tallest character ever in classic Nintendo. I'm amazed they haven't used him as a final boss in any of the Super Smash Bros games.
This game was my childhood. However, if I got shot 3x during that last Wizpig race I NEVER would have won like this person did...I had to have a few blue balloons and shots at him to win.
I managed to 100% the game back in the day, but between the silver coin challenges and TT trials I never had the urge to do it more than once 😅 So a lot of these cutscenes I've only ever seen once and it's cool to see them again.

It was great having a story mode, but sometimes it felt repetitive, because of having collectibles on a racing game, it's a racing game, not a collectathon platformer

That was a jumpscare for me
every time I played.
Spoopy
Rest in pepsi
Dude same! I always hid behind the couch when my brother played through the cutscene.

The octopus says " achhhuaaah" when he realeses the bubbles
Faronstream I used to be scared of him when I was a child when I had this game
Okay then...
I miss them all so much...it feels so good when you finally beat them! Especially ESPECIALLY Bubbles!!!
This game was hard af. no idea how i beat this when i was 4 but it def boosted my reaction time as an adult
4?
I love diddy kong
it was a lot of fun to play it though.
purple mattress review
SusanaInfernus 94 I hate wizpig
Saddens me they never made a sequel for this, was one of my favorite games.
I remember how happy I felt when I completed this game 100% such an epic feeling, really had to work hard for it lol
With that ending I kept thinking we were gonna get another game but sadly never happened. Damn you Rare!
26:45 *INSTANT STRIKE OF NOSTALGIA*
I’m Favorite From Diddy Kong Racing Is Bluey The Walrus, Bubbler The Octopus And Wizpig These Are My 3 Favorite Characters
Here what I think about them:
Tricky the Triceratops- Mischief Dinosaur
Bluey the Walrus- Fancy Sea Mammal
Bubbler the Octopus- Gurgling Cephlapod
Smokey the Dragon- Medival Reptile
Wizpig- Galaxy Swine
Bubbler's cries sounds like "ALCOHOL"
They really dumbed this game down for the ds version
Caleb Frederick Again, I think the same...how about the race with the dragon? EMBARASSING, it's so damn easy i couldnt even joy about my victories. And what about the first race with wizpig? No thunders, no storm, if you do a mistake you can still win. There's also the silver coin challenge that has been removed, but I don't want to cry right now. Speechless.
brings back memories
I remember how hard it was to beat the octopus. I spent hours learning the exact path to take and when to use the boosters.
Someone please explain to me why this game doesn't have more love. It deserves it. Loved treasure caverns.
Get Ready
Boss: Hahaha Headstart
Me: Nitro boost Headstart woohoo!
Who also thought that the damned Octopus was the hardest of the 4?
Omg I raged so much during these boss races 😂
This game was AMAZING, open world, car hovercraft and plane, fun characters, great music... My btother and I melted the cartridge from too much playing!
"Sorry to break the potty" is what I heard as a kid and it made me lol hysterically!!!!!!
Wizpig is so damn hard to beat!
It’s so cute when they r all dancing after u beat Wizpig :3 Ouo but he comes
Wizpig: Well lookie here, it’s the little worm!
Me: Well lookie here, it’s the big meanie! *As I see him fly off into space*
Holy crap that freaking octopus man, I was stuck on him for MONTHS
Can’t wait to replay this game!
Would anybody else get so nervous during these boss battles as a kid
If 3:47 isn't the hardest clutch in video game history, I don't know what is.
What is pigma doing here from Star Fox
And Prince Tricky
@@torrent9666 And thats his name for real.

The nostalgia, almost brings a tear to my eyes.
I remember reading that Wizpig is 600cm in height, making him over 19ft, and apparently the tallest character ever in classic Nintendo.
I'm amazed they haven't used him as a final boss in any of the Super Smash Bros games.
He shouldve also been a spirit fight in ultimate as ganondorf
Diddy always just looking around like he can't figure out where the voices are coming from. This game was great
This is back when we all had a cheat code book.... agh nostalgic 😩
This is my favorite N64 game.
Anyone else get anxiety when the boss was behind you? Lol
It took me all these years to realize that Conker does the same dance during the party in Conker's Bad Fur Day if you idle with him.
The Octopus sounds like Megatron .
Knew a comment like this had to be buried SOMEWHERE.
I played many hours on both of the kart racing games back in the day but Diddy kong racing was definitely the winner in terms of content and playtime.
This was the shit. But that fucking squid, holy fuck that level annoyed me.
"He had all the virtues I dislike, and none of the vices I admire" - Winston Churchill on Wizpig.
The octopus was the most difficult one man
Thank you for the invite 🎉
This game was my childhood. However, if I got shot 3x during that last Wizpig race I NEVER would have won like this person did...I had to have a few blue balloons and shots at him to win.
I managed to 100% the game back in the day, but between the silver coin challenges and TT trials I never had the urge to do it more than once 😅 So a lot of these cutscenes I've only ever seen once and it's cool to see them again.
Plz Nintendo, make a remake of this game in future
It always my childhood
Um... They have Diddy Kong racing ds
Ik, but only on ds is not enough.
They should remake it on the Switch, and fix the issues the DS port made.
Nintendo doesn’t have the rights to the majority of the characters sadly
That fucking clutch at the last race on the first boss
Isn't it weird how all your rivals becomes your friends at the end?
