    1. Avoid heat. 2-3 times a year straightening your hair. It burns your ends.
    2. Protect your ends. Trim often when they look split.
    3. Don't be tough with your hair. Comb your hair when it's wet. Start from the bottom going to the roots.
    4. Moisture every week. Not butter /oils but water then seal.
    5. Keep your hair stretched in a protective style eg braid out, twist outs, crotchet.
    6. Learn to do your hair yourself. Try out hairstyles.
    7. Use bonnets and headscarf satin or silk to avoid rubbing with harsh materials like cotton/polyester & avoid split ends.
    8. Have fun with it. Don't worry about the rules

Most long hair youtubers have one thing in common. And that's time and patience. I bet either she's been natural all her life or she's been growing her hair for at least 4 years(min) to achieve this growth length. There is no magic pill sorry to say. 😆 It's taken me 5 years to reach pass waist length. And yes genetics played a roll. But you still have to take care of your hair. For years my hair was stuck at shoulder length.

I think genetics plays a role in how fast your hair grows, but in terms of length retention that's how you treat your hair, so the more you dye, heat, style your hair, the more other things you will have to do to make sure it is not getting damaged.

Thank you Black Women for the Natural Hair Movement. There are so many natural hair products to choose from now, owned by Black entrepreneurs. I have learned that my hair is between 4A and 4B hair texture. It soaks up water, which means it will frizz and shrink when it dries. During the spring and summer, I can go out of the house with one style and come back with a shorter "do". I have gotten to know my hair and I am having fun.

Great tips, I forever had short hair while growing up. I resorted to perming it and damaged it more. Then six years ago I cut it all and started braiding with my own hair, reduced heat, detangling by myself as salons weren't gentle with the detangling process. My hair is now longer than ever before and I'm still learning to take more care of it. Thanks for this video.

I don’t have natural hair, it’s permed, and the tip that I’m glad you emphasized is that your hair needs moisture, and that moisture refers to WATER. I recently started washing my hair every 4-5 days and the difference is incredible.

Yes, everything you said made sense! You were on point!
Right now, my 4C hair is extremely short after having had very long locks! My locks were past my bum! Now it's only 1½inches long! I cut my locks off because I wasn't taking good care of them; I found it too much work!
However, after cutting my locks off my hair started to fall out until I had traction alopecia...yep, it got that bad! But 3yrs down the line and Ayervedic hair care, my hair is finally growing back. I will point out that part of my hair loss was due to my medication I was taking at the time.
So I'll conclude by saying look after your hair people and don't be too envious of those with lengthy hair; it takes a lot of commitment and labour of love to maintain it.

Genetics only has to do with how fast your hair grows not how long it can grow. That being said you should still be getting a least 4 inches of growth per year (most people get 6.) Anyone can have long hair, terminal length is a myth. Your hair never stops growing while you are living. If your hair "stops growing" its just breaking off due to poor care/ health factors.

I had a crew cut at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and did not touch my hair for about 6 months. Just washed it; It was a tangled dry mess . But it had grown about 3-4 inches. I started over again in September 2020 to now January 2022, and just washed, moisturized and braided it. It has grown to about 7 inches in that time. It's possible. Hair grows. I don't have armpit or botty crack length, but I am just saying hair grows and will thrive under the correct conditions.

Growing your hair takes time...point blank genetics or not. It grows they said about half inch a month, so to get her length it takes years. I had a pixie cut with undercut transitioned for the relaxer for 9 months before cutting those dead ends. Fully Natural for 8 months started out above my eyebrows the top & my hair today at the tip of my nose & undercut at the end of earlobe...8 more months it should be close to my chin..16 months God willing. Your hair does grow, you have to take care of it. It's a combination of moisturizer & healthy hair practices like she is sharing with us.

I could never. It comes down to genetics. My brother, and sisters had longer and thicker hair then me, when they were younger but me on the other end. I had pony tails that looked like chicken wings, my hair never was shoulder length like theres. I believe my natural hair can grow shoulder length after flat iron or streched and not in its natural state.

A lot of people had short hair when they were younger, and once they learned what worked for their hair as adults are able to grow out their hair.
Maybe the products that your family used were not beneficial for your hair. Perhaps you are deficient in some minerals that affect hair growth. Maybe your go-to hairstyle is breaking off your hair. In 2020, there are many resources to turn to so that everyone can have their best hair, and to keep it short or to grow it out.

Nece B same. I can relate to your struggles. I also had short hair my whole life, couldn't even hold a pony tail at all and I've tried a lot of things and I don't manipulate my hair a lot but it just doesn't grow out longer. Dad's side of the family also generally have short hair, they struggle to grow long hair.
I think we have an intrinsic genetic problem we are not aware of but I think a large factor has to do with the fact that we naturally have very thin, brittle hair. To top it off, we have extreme slow growth rate.

We’ve seen enough people who’s hair never grew past a certain length LEARN how to take care of their natural hair and end up having long hair to know that it’s not simply “genetics”. The genetics excuse would only work if someone always had long hair, since they were a kid, both when they were relaxed and natural. Most of these BW with long hair didn’t just have those genes because they were literally bald headed before learning proper hair care.
