  • It’s now been over a month since Eiyuden Chronicle: 100 Heroes was released, and since I watched the credits role, and saw my name in the credits, I’ve been thinking long and hard about what I would want in a sequel.
And yes, if you haven’t heard, the developers did state that a sequel is the aim that they are working towards, and also, that they wish to carry on Murayama’s legacy, with the rich world he created, to live on.
💬 This video is going to look into what I want to see in the sequel. I would also love to know what you think of this list, and what you would like to see💬

A story that talks to me like I am over 12. I don’t need/edgy, I want a tone that feels like a real world. There was underlining tone that you could dig to get to, but make it on the surface. Don’t shy away from letting events carry weight… and I am sad I have to say this, but be more like Suikoden…

Sadly that didn't help, when comparing to the japanese script the really took some goofy liberties.

In Suiko 2 people die a lot when Luca Blight was introduce hope we get another "Die pig!!!" scene in the sequel and the War should be play like Suikoden rock paper scissor as well as more duel story line/scene that is also rock paper scissor.

A few QoL, better balancing, a new setting, & a great translation. That's all I really need for the sequel to make it better. Also, to be fair, games like Bravely Second didn't earn its "T" rating either with all its light-hearten & underwhelming deaths with an ending akin to a Disney movie.

A much better localization that ain't from Bryan Gray for one thing.

Absolutely key for this particular series. Stay true to what the original authors intended, and don't change character personalities. I felt like I would have liked certain characters much more if the story was more adult-oriented (as war stories should be), and if the localization team stayed true to the source material.

Recruitable characters not tied behind obligatory mini games, bring the elevator back to the castle. Add a slider x2 x4 button for speed choices during battles and make the overworld map more interesting to run around in.

I don't mind them being locked behind mini-games, but it shouldn't be the very end of the mini-game quests. That was just rude :D

@@HellFireRPGs Important castle upgrades being locked behind Huang requiring some random-ass fish in a non-visible rock pond was quite frankly a stupid decision. It blocked such a huge chunk of progress to the point where if you didn't look up at guides, your HQ progression would be severely hampered. There were systems and progression locks in place that just made no sense, whereas when you look at Suikoden I, II or III for example, all the blockades made perfect sense and felt natural. Key characters, or upgrades that progress other elements should never be locked behind hidden aspects and mini-games. Mini-games should provide increasing bonuses and awards, such as runes, items and recipes.

I wish the prota couldve primal lens (like true rune power) because noa skill set is so forgettable. Unlike the iconic bright shield, souleater, etc.

You and I have the same concern regarding the game's rating. It should have been rated 'T' to allow mature storytelling. Scenes like Nowa's village being burned down only to be rebuilt in the next scene as though nothing happened made the event pointless. The vanilla dialogue also left me feeling as though I was watching a bunch of children 'playing war' as opposed to adults dealing with complex political issue that had dire consequences.
The story oddly enough had a better payoff when you DON'T recruit all the characters... at least it the most impact I felt in the story up to that point.

On a side from the number of returning characters - it would also be a good thing to see some shifting allegiances between conflicts. Perhaps some of the people who were friends in one conflict may be the enemy in another (like Luc from Suikoden 1&2 -> 3), or on the flipside, people who were at one time an enemy in one game becomes an ally in another (like Lucia in Suikoden 2 -> 3).
One of the things I liked in the world of Suikoden is that not everyone who was on your side were necessarily upstanding guys, and not everyone on the enemy's side were necessarily evil. They had their reasons for being where they are, and you have yours, and that put you at odds.

Yeah the carry over "bonus'" from Rising were lame. I was expecting quite a bit more. Especially if you got 100% in the game. Some kind of overpowered accessory or two. A special rune lens that's actually useful or powerful and not just a generic.
I really missed the party formations from Suikoden V.
I also missed the skills first introduced in Suikoden III.
I also didn't like how limiting the rune lenses felt. It reminded me of Suikoden Tierkreis in many ways.
While I don't like things to be over explained, the lack of explanation for most things that should've had them was indeed puzzling.
I felt the battles had something missing overall.
I loved when the characters all jumped and attacked the mobs all at once instead of just waiting like they do in this game. I tried to mess with the auto battle setting but I didn't ever get that effect, even when they're set to attack different enemies. It made the battles much slower in general. Maybe I need to tweak the setting more or not though.
I didn't see my characters attacking multiple enemies either. When your characters were fast enough and skillful enough, they'd jump form enemy to enemy to attack them. But I didn't see anything like that here. Just one attack per person. Again, this makes the random battles longer. To add onto this, there's no Double Beat Rune lol. I miss that one so much.
Yes, the duels were a step backwards. I can't add anything more to what you said about them.
At first I didn't really like the army battles but I mean, each game had a different style for that anyway so it's fine. Would I like to see this one expanded on? Yes. But then again, I would like to have seen all of them expanded on. There's almost always more that could've been done but complaining about it when it SHOULD be different for the sequel is a moot point. So I just hope they don't expand on this for the sequel and have a completely different style of army battle instead as is tradition.
I did like needing materials and money on top of having the person needed to upgrade the town. Otherwise upgrades just seemed to happen and was a little off putting at times. It was cool to see this not be tied to the money on hand and had its own currency associated with it as well. The town should have its own funding separate from the pocket money of the team itself. Most games with town building features should have something similar. It was especially noticeable after having recently played Fire Emblem Engage and never having enough money for anything at times due to the town building thing.
However, I'm used to having stock just appear in the shops after seeing it for the first time in another shop. I hate having to bring teams to other towns to outfit them with the best stuff as the shops at the base don't have the best stuff yet. It was barely tolerable to have had to do that for sharpening weapons at times until you find the next hammer as it was.
The hidden room battles should be repeatable if completed. I don't know if they are at some point but so far they're not. I beat the first boss and quit to get the character to join. Then much later I went back to level up some more and it was another set of three battles. I beat them too. Then started another three but intentionally lost on the boss as to not get TOO overpowered. I would've liked to have seen stages or a level progression system like Suikoden IV had or something.
I also hated having characters and even storyline progression locked behind minigames. Sure the sand racing seemed to give you infinite tries but I shouldn't have had to do the race to progress the story to begin with. This was bringing up bad aspects from the Breath of Fire series vibes at times.
I liked not having to wait to get fortune teller to give the character info. Just click and pay. I would like to see another way of getting to know the characters though. Bring back the comment box or the confessionals or something. Although, I haven't tried the baths yet so maybe there's still scenes there. Otherwise this game kinda fell into the join and be forgotten about syndrome that I felt they found a way to circumvent. But wait, wasn't that a different team for Suikoden IV, V and Tierkreis though. So maybe that's it in that this team never developed expanding the characters further than the comment box, baths and the detectives. The confessionals and the better usage of characters were from the team that took over within Konami after this original team left during/after the development of Suikoden III.

I haven’t completed the video as I am just nearly about to finished the game. So what I wish for the sequel is to have a more lengthy story line. This one had a great story but I think it was quite short. I think more events should have happened before Nowa was chosen as commander. I was still getting familiar with the characters at that level. Speaking for myself, I was not that attached to Nowa’s character yet until later stages.

Maybe it should take place at Galdea after the first story. Build off it, maybe? The Galdean territories are facing a crisis within their borders as a foreign force enroaches on their territory...a few characters try to gain support from other nations (like the ones in the League) but the previous conflict of the first game makes said states wary. It then becomes a plot of international relations and heavy politics (which the fist game lacks quite a bit). Loved Eiyuden, wished the did more with Perielle using Nowa as propaganda fodder; she would have been such a compelling ly flawed character

I applaud the team for the effort. They included everything they promised.
Sadly, most of the game didn't work for me.
I understand this will probably please most backers, as it feels like a PS1 era game- but that's the main problem for me. It feels like a game I already played before.
All the systems are barebone, probably because they overpromised.
the combat is extremely basic, to the point of being boring.
The rune system is shallow, with most of the interesting runes unlocking at the very end of the game.
The card game, which is fairly good, is super slow, with no option to forfeit.
The Beigoma game is the same, slow with no option to forfeit and you still have to play the third round even if you lost 2...
So why did I put over a 100 hours in this game?
The story was good enough for me to keep going. Recruiting characters is still fun. Upgrading your base is still fun.
Somehow I'm still far from 100%... I don't know if I have it in me to get all the achievements.
... It really hurts me to say this, but I don't think I want an Hundred Heroes 2. I'd prefer a 30 heroes, one where they make a very polished game that a team their size can handle...

Darker tone, some better characters as there were few stand outs, better mini games - no shark racing and the card game was boring. All that being said, I loved the game.

If suikoden is the parent , then i think eiyuden is the 10th or more descendant.
What makes me play the eiyuden game is the consideration of being related to Suikoden series.

I agree 100% with your thoughts. I know this is a completionist issue, but I disliked the tedious requirements to get all trophies😅. Like why have you play 120 card battles that are more or less the same. I felt all minigames overstayed their welcome. Also, I want character deaths to come back, as that increased the tension of each major battle. And all the library stuff should be accessible from the menu so you don't have to keep running back to the castle to keep checking fishes, enemy lists, etc.
