This will be a pretty controversial take I think. I can say for sure that data from APOS scripts have improved understanding of RuneScape Classic in some areas, but the majority of scripts did not record data like that unfortunately. I reached out to lots of ex-botters and they weren't able to be very helpful with things like skilling success rates or some of the things you'd hope they would have been able to if it had just been recorded. We did get a nice PvM combat formula and drop rates for the most popular monsters from the botting community. Dialogue, I'm not sure, but if Stormy says they used apos to transcribe transcripts for the wiki, I'd believe it. Most dialogue was saved via RSC+ replays. I know too that having about 70% - 90% botters online turned off a lot of people from Classic, and I think it's part of the reason why third-party servers which don't allow botting are doing a lot better in 2023 than the official servers did in 2018. Jagex officially blamed rampant botting as part of the reason for Classic's shutdown. Though I know that's not actually the real reason (bots had been rampant much longer without Classic being shut down), it does show that their attitude never changed towards considering botters legitimate subscribers of RuneScape Classic. My experience as a legitimate player is that the botters on Classic didn't bother me existing (except when Giants were taken on all 5 worlds). They were like an element of the game world. It was fun to idle in Draynor with them and watch the stakes & drama. They did breathe more life into the game from existing. Not everyone felt that way about it though. Thanks for the video, good one.
Most of us did not run those data collection scripts; we often used Blood's scripts or wrote our own, towards the end, APOS was also struggling because the original owner of APOS handed credentials to Storm but there would be times in which the server to auth the bot would no longer work and we couldn't access it. There was alternatives made to improve the client such as full screen mode and other QOL client for when we wanted to play legit or play on a legit account; however, most of the forums was about trading Rare items (i.e. a party hat might go for $50 USD, I remember some guy when it got announced servers were shutting down was buying up all the rare items knowing the servers were being shut down just so he could experience having a ton of official rare items on his account and watch them literally vanish as he gets disconnected). There was a variety of players; we had some malicious too on the forum that were frequently banned and none of us would trade with that person. Most of our communication occurred via the forum, we typically respected one another and sometimes would coordinate who got what training spot; i.e. druids in edgeville for herblaw. The APOS client itself was closed source besides the public API; so it's very likely Storm also integrated telemetry data into the client to preserve its history; though I can't confirm yes or no on that, but I do remember some export scripts for saving interactions and such. I didn't communicate with Storm often because she was often busy with IRL work due as keeping APOS alive was her hobby, but it's still was an awesome experience to be part of that community. I joined in around 2010 and was with them until the server died to which I have no clue where most of the members went; though I do know one member started up the OpenRSC source and has been working on it and updating it like crazy to bring about a living replicated copy of the game with some of the bugs fixed (i.e. the crystal chest being glitched for months on end). FYI, that hated member on the forums; he was the one who would intentionally glitch the chest and then mock us over it. I wish I still had screenshots of my time on the forum but most of that was lost due some unfortunate events IRL. I do know someone did write a bot to travel around RSC to gather data however; I figure it had something to do with OpenRSC, but its goal was to interact with most of the world and NPCs that it could; we did have one person document through a video series back then every single quest and every single quest dialogue option; I'm pretty sure that is all recorded as well. Most of us only botted because we loved the game, we loved the community, we loved our drop party events (I remember S U O M I showed up to one, I can't remember if it were Halloween or Christmas but I think it was Christmas). When it came to OSRS when it released, many of us like RS2 but didn't like RS3 so continued with RSC. When OSRS came out, many of us botted RSC but played OSRS like normal. I didn't play OSRS due to college since when it released, I was in the middle of college but rejoined OSRS in early 2016 as an ironman which sparked new love for the game and gave me something to do during my last semester in college and while I was going through a rough period in life. When the game shut down, it was an insanely sad time; what is funny is most of us did bot our accounts right up the final few hours before dropping our banks for everyone in celebration; twas a good time. If you want a lot more info regarding RSC, join the RSC subreddit. You can ask and there are people who will try to answer your questions. I will say this; the game was botted because time was a problem for many of us but we liked seeing stats go up, we liked seeing online player count. We did have legit players, we did hold events (pking/dueling/drop parties/pvm etc). But the game was effectively dead as people wanted to play RS3 or later OSRS. If we didn't have the bot, the game's number would have likely read 0 frequently, unfortunately. While I was too young to play RSC in its prime, I did get to enjoy a piece of its community and experience the later half of its history as I moved from RS2 (I joined in 2005) to RSC to Darkscape for a few, to OSRS.
Imo jagex has Noone but themselves to blame for botters, I got banned as a kid who didn't even know what a bot was or that they even existed lmfao I legit thought everyone was a real person. Well long story short they ban me I appeal because wtf is a bot I'm fkin 7 lmfao no idea wtf macro or botting even means 😂😂😂, needless to say they created a bot farm that day that funded my brand new main acct 😂😂😂 Mayne if they didn't just ban ppl for 0 reason they'd have less ppl doing it
It's ironic how /v/scape is honestly more enjoyable experience than OSRS simply because there's no bots or GE even if there's only 20 players or so online and you have to talk to them to trade while they're antisocial 4chan autists. Also the game sucks but at least skills such as woodcutting are useful and 99 mining is an actual achievement. Meanwhile jagex's game sucks, because it's popular, well know, anyone can play it, and well, it attracts attention... Wherever there's attention, there's opportunity, it doesn't happen with small niche communities. I literally got 99 woodcutting there by cutting magic logs and I'd rather grind my dick off than get 99 woodcutting on OSRS via best xp/hr without tick manipulation.
I'm currently playing a server called RuneLegacy based in the 06 era. It started a few days ago and it's super fun. Includes slayer, farming, Barrows, Dagannoth kings, etc.
14 years ago. I remember the removal of free trade. People going into the wilderness not knowing what’s going on. People went in for fun risking a lot because they knew nobody could hit them
I love that "Awesome Piece of Software" (APOS) is the same acronym as "A Piece of Shit" of which I am much more familiar. I feel like it has to be intentional.
Mouse movements are not tracked by the client. If it was none of the Runelite plugin bot scripts that still exist would work for a second using direct api calls to send actions instead of moving the cursor and clicking something
Mouse movement definitely used to be used for anti-cheat, but with the advent of touchscreens & mobile client, it's no longer very useful for detecting botters.
I think mouse movements were tracked at some point and that's why it became a thing to have certain types of mouse movements in for example SCAR scripts in around 2006 or so. Or maybe a big portion of the botting community was wrong about that, you never know.
Maybe this is erronous but i remember the game world would very slowly rotate a few degrees every couple of minutes and they added a log out timer that was only like 60 or 120 seconds or so. In effect it would mean that if you were running a script that didnt account for it the bot would eventually just get stuck somewhere endlessly clicking and log out or walk around not doing the intended thing.
It's kills me that I know that keemstar laugh is from when he laughed and said "can't wait to report your death" in regards to totalbiscuit. God what a tool.
I’ll be up front. I botted heavily in RuneScape 2, but not to get ahead or sell anything. I just really loved watching progression. I maxed an account through high school botting, but funny enough I would watch the bot play. Not to monitor, but it was like an idle game. It’s where I realized my interest in AI and idle games. I would frequently go to f2p worlds to pass out gold from what I was making. Even then I wasn’t being efficient. I don’t think I ever got past 300m, and even then I just invested that in to more skilling. Botting may be against TOS and the vast majority may do it with nefarious intentions, but being a severely disabled individual now I can actually see the viability of those clients being beneficial for accessibility. Just food for thought. Love the content. Been binging the past week or so.
I never looked at it from that perspective, it actually really is intuitive for people who can experience runescape with certain handicaps. Imagine somewhere down the track they make one where they throw up a 'are you still watching' like 1 click so they know you're still watching your character level up on its own. Basically just like watching a livestream except its your own personal account and you only level when you log in.
They didn't implement the contraversal to just combat real world trading, the biggest issue was the mass scale credit card fraud being used by scammers for membership. It was so bad that all the big credit card companies were threatening to ban their customers from using their cards on runescape, which would essentially bankrupt the company overnight. Real world trading was only a very small part of it and easier to explain instead of instilling mass panic for credit card security for their company.
Packet manips are surprisingly still a thing, they just have to be done manually - I'd love to see a botters only version of osrs so we can just see who can make the craziest scripts - like the fight caves script that dropped that was in the works for roughly 5 years, as an ex botter i'd love to be able to mess around without hurting the game, just some good clean nerdy fun
There's something uniquely satisfying about seeing 'AI' do things in multiplayer games that shouldn't be possible. See the OpenAI SC2 league for example. Incredibly satisfying. I'd love to see a botter league, honestly.
I used to talk to Storm all the time, had no idea she was still around. APOS was a special place that I miss dearly. The slight revival over on Shizzled was cool too, but nothing like APOS was.
The 2009 era of runescape is the year I flourished the most. I had a ton of banked "junk items" that I could use to abuse the trade limitations with. It's where I got my pirate's hook that is keepsaked on my rs3 acc now. I paid actual 4m gp for it with an estimated 11m junk items to go with it. Junk items included headless arrows, maple logs, plain bones, balls of yarn, etc so I gave away items that would not really have value or they'd be nearly impossible to trade reliably.
I got banned in actual RS1, not the classic rehash, using a color clicking mining bot. You definitely got banned for things other than packet manipulation.
played classic until it was closed, as you said, a lot of people botted because it gave the game economy, we loved it and the only way to keep up was to bot
It’s been many of years since I played a private server. Does anyone remember mopar*redacted* those were some good days. No lie, I even paid to be a mod on some server and had a tool I could spawn any item I wanted. I had no idea what I was doing, but there were certain code numbers that would spawn a specific item. Think of it as every single item in RS had a #, and I could literally ::spawn 1234 50000 and I’d get 50000 of whatever item was 1234 lol. It was insane. Granted, literally zero benefit to this at all. It didn’t get me anything other than a 14 year old feeling completely empowered. I spawned 2.14b of every single rare item just to have it.
1:29 Idk, I've gaming for a while, and its really only Runescape/Jagex that has a problem with private servers, because none of the other games I've played have had a problem with private servers
Man, this video brings back so many memories. I use to have a bot strictly for fishing/cooking lobsters just to supply my PKing clan. Had so much fun pking in Edgeville and the castle.
Back in 2009 ish jagex didn't ban you for botting as much as they do today. Often if you bottled a skill on your main, instead of getting banned when you get caught, you'd find your skill reset back to level 1. It was the good old days
@Jimmy Z they're called account rollbacks. It was a punishment for cheating and you can find many forums and a wiki article talking about it Pretty easy to validate with a quick Google search
it was and I can prove it. My account was 99 mining, back in 2012 after bot busting I did a mistake of using epic bot client, got perm banned, got unbanned recently in 2019 after appealing, checked stats and its much lower than it were... 90 @@jimmyz9882
I botted a lot in RS2. The main reason why was because I found the grind too tedious and long. I never sold the items I botted. Just kept them for myself. The day after I completed underground pass was I struck by the hammer.
Actually no, RS2 had no anti botting software. It is not until 2016/2017 that they started to implementing bot tracking software. But still it was primitive and you would go on for years without a ban. Viruses you wouldn't get from them since you botting meant more money for the bot owner.
Out of curiosity, were you making a game using mirage source or one of it's branches? Since you showed vb6 and a similar game (even though, I think the sprites were rpg maker)
I still have hope that they will release the classic server again. I’m a RSC veteran as well I always preferred RSC and got big into the shizzled forums. Used APOS to max an account with screen shots to prove the journey. I had 12 bots running 24/7 collecting resources to make the maxing journey happen learned how to edit bot scripts and had a few commissioned for me as well. I was able to get a couple Santa’s 2 mask sets as well took screenshots before jagex shut classic down. I was purely founded from my osrs cash via bonds. So to say the least I paid my dues lol. This video is truly amazing, brings me back to some great times. I also thought of the idle game play as a good business opportunity for jagex.
I remember joining around 2015 or 2016 and starting to use APOS. I got 99 mining and smiting, fishing and cooking, and mostly 80+ stats. I worked on banking 99 herblore but Jagex closed RSC before I could ever finish it. Those were fun days.
@@Kkrider84 sorry to hear you never accomplished your goal! I also never was able to at the very least wear a party hat! I had a good friend at the time who actually owned a pink party hat.
I remember Jagex talking about "rented" servers or "cheat" servers for Runescape ages ago, honestly, in 2023, it wouldn't be a bad idea, either for OSRS or RS3, server side, RS isn't THAT large and complex, running a custom shard wouldn't actually consume that much in compute resources, it'd be pretty cool to have your own world, or a clan world, and to have options on how you and your friends want to play, imagine a sort of hardcore world, where all exp is reduced to 1xp drops and death gets you kicked from the world, or an ultra easy mode world where the exp is like 10x to 50x, with extra drops or something, you could make worlds for private deadman modes or skilling comps, it'd be pretty cool. Edit: with bonds and stuff now, it would give players really good ways to actually pay for these worlds, sure someone could just pay the whole cost themselves, i've rented VPS's before for things, but bonds could enable clans to share hosting costs, you could setup a world so that any player can use a bond to extend that worlds time or something.
Colleges are desperate, everybody is aware that a simple degree will get you absolutely nowhere today. Work experience, good work ethic, and an outgoing personality is free & much more valuable than a college degree. ChatGPT can now give you the answers to your whole curriculum.
You talk about the slight change to depositing items. Well to me that means someone on the inside is giving out the updated coding to bot sites. Where would bot makers receive the new information from. It’s obvious that updated bot sites are getting insider information. They have to be.
It's unreal to be pushed to a point you have to bot to pay your bills. And just barely doing it. I always heard about botters getting banned. People running the same software. What did I do different? Was I just lucky to slip into the golden age undetected as a solo? Or did I chat enough and were my gains typical of a struggling player? I've long felt that Runescape isn't in the business of shutting down botters completely, but waging a balanced arms race trying to balance the human dependence on their gp with the player experience that makes it worth something in the first place.
I’ve always thought that OSRS would be more fun if Jagex just accepted that skilling is trash nowadays. Aside from the accolade of having a 99, most skills are extremely low profit and others actually cost a lot to level up. Combat/bosses/PvP is the only thing people do for decent cash in OSRS but for some reason they keep the level of entry pretty high. It’s kind of a mess in 2024.
Haha didn't expect to see a clip of my -536m thieving xp in this (not using my Eraserhead YT account anymore). Miss RSC. Also good to see Storm get credit, they were MVP throughout those later years.
A little random side comment, So I'm attending a university for software engineering (which is essentially what's 'advertised' in this video, but the only difference is the electives are chosen for focus in game development, but you can technically do this at any university, even mine has electives for this). However, the bachelor's there seems to be a bachelor of arts, which is simply bizarre. This somewhat implies that it's actually NOT software engineering, which admittedly is very intense as it applies engineering principles to software architecture. But if you are attempting to get into that industry, you are probably much better off just going for a B.S in software engineering, because I don't have a ton of confidence in an arts degree. You also would get more versatility because we generally aim to improve complex problem-solving capabilities, which does come with the traditional engineering classes (Calc I, II, III, linear algebra, physics, etc.) but I do think that if you are able to work through these than you will find a wonderful return in your investment. Anyways, I just thought I would give my opinion on that, I may be wrong but generally speaking I'm just saying to perhaps investigate it a tad more.
what do you mean people didnt bot to sell gold or accs? I have pics from 2002-2004 just doing that, and also know others who did, also there were already forums from 2002
I've said it for years at this point. For as much as the community (myself included) I think bots are kind of an essential part of the game. Quite literally everything would be way more expensive.
Runescape as an idle game is what attracts me to the idea of botting. Unfortunately it would never be an approved aspect to the game because of RWT. Hell, I'd take an APOS username to experience what it's like to automate runecrafting.
I can definitely understand why bots ended up doing so much damage to the game. One thing I've noticed as a returning player after 15 years is that a lot of skills end up just being unfun to grind and I can see why so many people ended up using scripts. I don't condone botting by any means but we have to look at some core issues of the game to truly address some of the botting concerns.
I personally think it's not a huge deal so long as it's just to deal with the grind. We have lives outside of scape. If someone bots through iron power mining or agility, I can't blame them. It's the bots that screw up the game economy that frustrate me.
Oh yeah, with all the damage to the economy bots have done over the years it's probably trillions of unnecessary gold lost. I know that a lot of OSRS players don't like change there has to be a point where we have to improve the game from a more modern perspective. Things like Runecraft are downright awful to level and as long as it doesn't affect the economy too heavily I would be in full support of adding new, more engaging ways to level skills.
to destroy bots, jagex should release much more content, if they make game 20x times bigger, I mean, more stuff to do, more minigames to get xp in certain skills, and more items and new forms of gathering it making difficult to bots centralizate..
@@teste-yh5dfnah thatll never work because bots excell at doing the most menial worthless things like picking up a single bucket over and over. More content probably just means more bots as players do the content and get bored with it.
Bots are completely tied to the nature of MMOs. MMOs are grindy because they are designed to be played forever. Bots are a natural reaction to that game design. I don't think we'll ever be able to separate the two.
I got a quest sent in. Me and a friend of mine wrote something about a quest called defence of varrok.well we wrote that it would be cool if it got attached and we had to defend the city. It came out but I don't think I had all the skills to do tje entire quest
Ayy my friends and I wanted to create our own game too, we all played runescape and were in boy scouts together, so we wanted to make a realistic exploring game mixing like morrowind and runescape but realistic graphics. We used to create so many maps and journals full of explanations on how the game would be played... Thanks for unlocking that memory.
wow, never in years would have expected a SNHU (pronounced "snoo-yoo") ad in an RS vid my mom did a degree there in person part time when i was a kid, before it ever became anything resembling the online behemoth it is now
Soo it’s a cycle, they released Runescape Classic after people wanted nostalgia, they made oldschool after people wanted nostalgia Next is gonna be rs3 a few years from now
My take on runescape botting is that it makes people interested in programming, and as a massive nerd, it makes me kinda happy that more people are getting interested. I myself have tried making a runescape bot, but did not do it for any sake other than feeling the satisfaction of getting it to run.
@@user-qv5sm5dw1v I think it's the ironman mindset that keeps me going. I only play on an ironman account, which makes me not as vulnerable to the fluctuating prices of some of the items that bots gather. But other than that I totally agree with you.
@L The problem with botting aside from killing the in-game economy, is real-world trading. Bots generate gold which is then used for real-world trades. Remember when the wildy and trading updates dropped that caused massive backlash? Yeah, that's because Jagex was in deep legal troubles due to real-world trading and botting. Stolen credit cards were used in both purchasing memberships and used in gold sites. So, yes, botting is a huge problem. If everyone used it harmlessly that'd be one thing, but that's not how it works in the real world.
People botted on classic to stake. Basically they botted to make mage/maxed accounts to stake rares. There were a few people who had a majority of the rares.
Omfg I miss playing RS Classic... And because of your videos I recovered my account so I could at least play OSRS. But man... I really do miss the look and feel of RSC...
100% me!. Played classic when i was around 10. So 1999 or 2000. My first acc got lost during these shifts tho. Today i play OSRS. Thus I have played on and off for 23-24 years. Darn it I am old.
rsc was better than rs2. The reason RSC servers were so restricted is because RSC was much more popular than rs2 when rs2 was launched and it was jagex's way of FORCING players to quit rsc. They could've made 1 update which was making catching not dependent on PID.. private servers fixed that problem which is why they were 100x better. The biggest thing is Jagex has been trying to kill off Classic since 2003 or whenever rs2 came out.
Colonello, how can i get in touch with you? I have some neat knowledge from tradelimit era which is something you might be interested in. I wont say more to not spoil anything but its from bounty hunter crater and tradelimit era timeframe.
What's sad is if jagex fully fixed the bot , venny goldfarmer problem the game would have to close down because they wouldn't have enough money from membership
When I get the osrs itch, I ALWAYS opt for a private server even though I have a really nice normal and HCIM account in the real game. I'll play Alora or something for a week for free and I'm done for another few months lol
11:45 I’m sorry but no. More reasons than that lol. I don’t like wc or rc but I need logs and runes to do the content I actually want to play on my Ironman. So many more too.
I mean its been abt 4 years since I played osrs but theres comfort in knowing I can log in at any time and see the trophies of my 5 years of virginity and lack of bathing
I bot (well used to before my major got overturned) not because I want to RWT gp or level up someone elses account. I did it because I dont have the time to play like I did back in highschool/college. I just want to raid like the rest of you players and have fun. Let these types of botters be!
ive had an mmo i actively play saved by a botter who just captured packets during the shutdown announcement to shutdown timeframe, so im thankful to these types of people
as dumb as it sounds i think a version of runescape where botting/idling is integrated would be so fun. there's this game called legends of idleon it's so fun
You know you're old when you go to play oldschool runescape, and it's the new version of runescape.

I forgot what I was going to say
Did u remember
This has to be one of the funniest comments I’ve seen in years
High af ?😂

RIP 2006scape, if none of you played, you really missed out.. amazing private server, was stuck to my laptop all summer of 2011.. Ps: F Mod Vault.
I'm currently playing a server called RuneLegacy based in the 06 era. It started a few days ago and it's super fun.
Includes slayer, farming, Barrows, Dagannoth kings, etc.
@@Kkrider84 skill capes o:?
@att6att Yep! Skill capes too!
I tried to look up the rsps, but the link for the rsps is broken
2006scape was awesoume
14 years ago. I remember the removal of free trade. People going into the wilderness not knowing what’s going on. People went in for fun risking a lot because they knew nobody could hit them
When they did that myself and most of my friends stopped playing, completely ruined the game
before the GE, I used to do commission work for things like coal or yew logs and used a simple bot. it was like a job for me as a kid. Was fun!
I used to use ghost mouse
I love that "Awesome Piece of Software" (APOS) is the same acronym as "A Piece of Shit" of which I am much more familiar. I feel like it has to be intentional.
As someone who has played Classic till the end, I really hope the game gets revived some day

I missed out on it and would love to see it come back so I can play it myself

Mouse movements are not tracked by the client. If it was none of the Runelite plugin bot scripts that still exist would work for a second using direct api calls to send actions instead of moving the cursor and clicking something
Mouse movement definitely used to be used for anti-cheat, but with the advent of touchscreens & mobile client, it's no longer very useful for detecting botters.
I think mouse movements were tracked at some point and that's why it became a thing to have certain types of mouse movements in for example SCAR scripts in around 2006 or so. Or maybe a big portion of the botting community was wrong about that, you never know.
My mouse moves 😏
This comment is illegible
Maybe this is erronous but i remember the game world would very slowly rotate a few degrees every couple of minutes and they added a log out timer that was only like 60 or 120 seconds or so. In effect it would mean that if you were running a script that didnt account for it the bot would eventually just get stuck somewhere endlessly clicking and log out or walk around not doing the intended thing.
It's kills me that I know that keemstar laugh is from when he laughed and said "can't wait to report your death" in regards to totalbiscuit. God what a tool.
Not the hero we deserved but the hero we needed 😔
Been binging the past week or so.
my experience was the same
I never looked at it from that perspective, it actually really is intuitive for people who can experience runescape with certain handicaps. Imagine somewhere down the track they make one where they throw up a 'are you still watching' like 1 click so they know you're still watching your character level up on its own. Basically just like watching a livestream except its your own personal account and you only level when you log in.
i still have a 21 year old account. i still play it on OSRS and played classic untill the shutdown.
Mines 19 years old didnt log in for 14 years. My main is in rs3 but osrs was fresh restart
That makes no sense, osrs came out 11 years ago.
@@RJTradess the old acc in rs3
Surely irobot dungeon is the best bot script of all time, managed to get 120 with that beast starting at level 50
@Joe Leigh Gary's Hood is the all time GOAT and we all know it. So simple yet so powerful.
There's something uniquely satisfying about seeing 'AI' do things in multiplayer games that shouldn't be possible. See the OpenAI SC2 league for example. Incredibly satisfying. I'd love to see a botter league, honestly.
"they just have to be done manually" why would they have to be done manually ?
I use epicbot vip ;)
This is the coolest sponsor I’ve seen so far, so happy for you!
played classic until it was closed, as you said, a lot of people botted because it gave the game economy, we loved it and the only way to keep up was to bot
Blizzard
WoW and MapleStory had lots of problems with it.
I feel like thatd still be a more effective punishment today.
That was never a thing...
@Jimmy Z they're called account rollbacks. It was a punishment for cheating and you can find many forums and a wiki article talking about it
Pretty easy to validate with a quick Google search
it was and I can prove it. My account was 99 mining, back in 2012 after bot busting I did a mistake of using epic bot client, got perm banned, got unbanned recently in 2019 after appealing, checked stats and its much lower than it were... 90 @@jimmyz9882
I confirm because I have a account that had ban squashed@@ww6372
As someone that started back in August 2006 and stopped somewhere in 08 or 09. These videos have been super informative and really fun to watch.
I botted a lot in RS2. The main reason why was because I found the grind too tedious and long. I never sold the items I botted. Just kept them for myself. The day after I completed underground pass was I struck by the hammer.
Always love the videos, always unique. Keep it up
Thank you!! Will do :D
Actually no, RS2 had no anti botting software.
It is not until 2016/2017 that they started to implementing bot tracking software.
But still it was primitive and you would go on for years without a ban.
Viruses you wouldn't get from them since you botting meant more money for the bot owner.
Probably true. I had a small bot farm going botting black masks back in the day. I’d leave them running 24/7 and only got maybe 2 bans?
retarded statement LOL
Out of curiosity, were you making a game using mirage source or one of it's branches? Since you showed vb6 and a similar game (even though, I think the sprites were rpg maker)
Yup! I used Eclipse Origins which was a modified version of mirage source.
@@ColonelloRS Your video made me nostalgic. I used to make games with it when I was a kid , thank you for the throwback.
I hope so too!! Glad you enjoyed the video :D
Great videos as always Colonello, I take inspiriation from you and Kemp for sure and hoping to make a video as great as this one, one day
An idle game that I can sometimes pk in is ideal. I miss this combat system tho
I wasnt a pker but my buddy was and he would talk strategies all the time. The system was way more complex than it looked
Edit: with bonds and stuff now, it would give players really good ways to actually pay for these worlds, sure someone could just pay the whole cost themselves, i've rented VPS's before for things, but bonds could enable clans to share hosting costs, you could setup a world so that any player can use a bond to extend that worlds time or something.
ever hear of a private server?
I just found your channel again after about a year. I just subscribed and am binging your videos.
It sucks that they got rid of classic permanently. 😕😥😓

great video! never knew they had classic for that long haha
11:05 cant blame em. Maybe you wanna play some old content and dont have the time. Idk full time job changes your perspective oretty quickly
You talk about the slight change to depositing items. Well to me that means someone on the inside is giving out the updated coding to bot sites. Where would bot makers receive the new information from. It’s obvious that updated bot sites are getting insider information. They have to be.
I don't know how or why, but I was simultaniously both surprised and unsurprised to see that that was what Colonello looked like...
I stopped literally mid dungeon raid when I saw your video in my feed. Ever informative and entertaining af. Keep up the great work you do, Colonello.
Thank you so much! Will do!
Genfanad is a good RuneScape classic like game. It's free just like the old RuneScape, somehow they made it a web browser game.
You know it was absolutely wild seeing SNHU ad in this video. Never knew they did sponsorships for TH-cam. I live not too far away from it LOL
This was actually one of the first ads in ages I actually found interesting!
Glad to hear that!!
love how you have the video cut of the guy with dreds sliding in his chair from the server in multiple videos
Alr I am invested, time to start playing osrs on steam, thanks for the love and documentations of RuneScape now I love it.
4:00 uk u should avoid this when they advert java 😳
Your videos are the starter pack for people who pretend to have played back in the day, lmao
Please do more old crazy vids like this lets go over the pink and purple party hats! Lets go over some of the massive gp dupes an bugs!
I was watching the video for fun but the sponsor is actually good , iv'e always wanted to apply for that college , thank you sir!
I have pics from 2002-2004 just doing that, and also know others who did, also there were already forums from 2002
Back in 2002-2004 that stuff was still very common. But by 2009 when everyone could bot for whatever they wanted it was much rarer
We didn't spam click item stacks. We clicked and held until it was close 'nuf. :)
Wish Nexon was more open to classic MapleStory...
I've said it for years at this point. For as much as the community (myself included) I think bots are kind of an essential part of the game. Quite literally everything would be way more expensive.
Wait so is that why I can’t seem to log into my old as RuneScape account
Runescape as an idle game is what attracts me to the idea of botting. Unfortunately it would never be an approved aspect to the game because of RWT.
Hell, I'd take an APOS username to experience what it's like to automate runecrafting.
Haven't seen many of your recent vids so I wasn't prepared for the face reveal in the ad block sick eyebrows bro
9:13 oh mannnn that old ore texture 😢 i miss classic
Coming from nh bice to see snhu as a sponsor!! I miss rs classic!
wow, never in years would have expected a SNHU (pronounced "snoo-yoo") ad in an RS vid
my mom did a degree there in person part time when i was a kid, before it ever became anything resembling the online behemoth it is now
I started out in 2002 on classic. I dont think there were too many ppl that were upset when Rs2 came out.
What's the song in the background at the end of the vid? i like it
Soo it’s a cycle, they released Runescape Classic after people wanted nostalgia, they made oldschool after people wanted nostalgia
Next is gonna be rs3 a few years from now
RSC is the reason most 'grindy' games nowadays don't feel so grindy for me. Some are tedious for sure, but nothing to my RSC days.
Never thought I'd see the school I go to sponsoring a runescape youtuber
I miss RuneScape classic 😢
RSC Preservation is an option to scratch that itch
People botted on classic to stake. Basically they botted to make mage/maxed accounts to stake rares. There were a few people who had a majority of the rares.
Lol now I feel old. I learned 3d model development the hard way, metasequoia 4 and trial and error. Loved rs2 private servers lol
I was not expecting my local university to be a sponsor 😭
Omfg I miss playing RS Classic... And because of your videos I recovered my account so I could at least play OSRS. But man... I really do miss the look and feel of RSC...
Is it bad I immediately recognized 0:20
I wont say more to not spoil anything but its from bounty hunter crater and tradelimit era timeframe.
these throwback memes are crazy. i cant remember the last time i saw a Hugh Mungus reference
This mans put up 2 commercial breaks AND a sponsor…
What's sad is if jagex fully fixed the bot , venny goldfarmer problem the game would have to close down because they wouldn't have enough money from membership
When I get the osrs itch, I ALWAYS opt for a private server even though I have a really nice normal and HCIM account in the real game. I'll play Alora or something for a week for free and I'm done for another few months lol
11:45 I’m sorry but no. More reasons than that lol. I don’t like wc or rc but I need logs and runes to do the content I actually want to play on my Ironman. So many more too.

Also, RuneScape was made for Windows 98, no one liked Windows 2000s or NT
I mean its been abt 4 years since I played osrs but theres comfort in knowing I can log in at any time and see the trophies of my 5 years of virginity and lack of bathing
I bot (well used to before my major got overturned) not because I want to RWT gp or level up someone elses account. I did it because I dont have the time to play like I did back in highschool/college. I just want to raid like the rest of you players and have fun. Let these types of botters be!
