The problem is people tend to weight negative feedback about 10x higher than positive, so it's very hard to just let stuff like this go, but you just have to train yourself to do so with that knowledge in mind.
In 1964 my grandparents took me on a road trip from Philadelphia to Yellowstone, it changed my life. You are taking us through some of the most astounding country on earth. Now I’ve taken my five grandkids on the same trip.

I had the scariest bear encounter of my life in Wyoming. Grizzlies have one hell of a roar! But she was just telling me to vacate her favorite fishing spot and I obeyed instantly.

Utterly INCREDIBLE! I grew up as a kid not far from Jackson Wyoming and this video truly did justice to the beauty and majesty of the area. On top of all that, we learned some excellent history and geology, we had gorgeous videography, great music to go with, the obligatory breakfast shot (I really do love seeing what Noraly is enjoying for breakfast each morning!) and to cap it all off, our hero is staying the night in a covered wagon! I truly hope you win some sort of award for best video adventure series on the Internet, Noraly. You truly deserve it!

@@TheDoug9901 On the mountain tops or some unusual event perhaps. It is difficult to place how far behind this is, but based on the trees not having leaves yet in some of the higher mountains she is at least a month ahead, maybe six weeks.
It's too bad, as there are all sorts of dirt roads she could be taking in that area that are beautiful. Also she should have gone back for the national parks in southern Utah and let things warm up a bit. She has a long way to go though, so I presume she is trying to keep a rough schedule about where she needs to be. Because she is this far north already, I am wondering if she plans to make a round trip back to the lower 48 for shipping her bike back, or making her way to the east to lower the cost. All before winter.

It always amazes me how interesting a subject can be when the instructor is truly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about it.
You, Noraly, have a special ability to completely transform a preconception of a country or an area! I would've NEVER imagined traveling the US to be so remote, so rural and so achingly beautiful - and you did the same thing with South Africa, Namibia and many other places!

Late to the party. A huge proportion of the US population is concentrated in the east. The western 2/3s of the country has a relatively small part of the population and even that is concentrated in California and Texas. Then within those states, the population is concentrated in a few urban areas. Most of the western 2/3s of the US is very rural. The entire population of Wyoming, the state she is in for this video, is 500,000 people. The entire state is the population of a single large-ish city.
You didn't choose the path through the US I expected, but I'm always surprised what route you take and that's why I watch your channel. Always something new and unexpected.

It wasn’t her expected either. She was heading to the Grand Canyon when she had her accident in Nevada and then her friend picked her up and drove her to Moab. So then she was near the border of Colorado and continued on from there.

The geology lessons are every bit as interesting to me as the motorcycling (which initially brought me into the fold) and the travel. You are a natural teacher. Of course it never hurts when the teacher is enthusiastic about their subject.
It's insane how you find time to ride, edit, research and top of that learn and remember all that info. It really shows how much you love what you are doing
My wife asked me about what that type of faulting was called, and I told her "horst and graben". Learned that in geology class in 1977. Amazing how much stuff sticks with you.
I proposed to my wife of 27 years at Yellowstone - and she said "yes" two days later on a hike in the Tetons. That whole area is beautiful and means a lot to us. We took our three kids to Yellowstone and the Tetons several times during our RV travels. After seeing your wonderfully done video of your rides there, I think it's time to saddle up and go see it again. Thanks Noraly!

We did it the other way around. Got married and THEN drove to Yellowstone and the Tetons, among a lot of other places out there.
I am a retired geography teacher and this is another video that I will share with my former colleagues, so the students in their classes can enjoy geology with Noraly. Great pictures and inspiring explanations.

I love hearing about the geology of the area she is riding through. Glad she stayed in a prairie schooner. That was how many pioneers traveled with their belonging to their destination our west. Others just pulled hand carts. Rugged people.

The summer of 1965 I worked in the Rockies as a surveyor, one of the best jobs you could dream of. One time while hitchhiking along the highway through the mountains I got a ride from a geologist that was the most enjoyable "lecture" I've ever had. It's wonderful to meet people who truly love their occupations.
Great story! I had a great ride as a hitchhiker in Denmark from a women in a Subaru who was a Stream Biologist! Learned so many cool things about the waterways in Jutland.

I am relatively new viewer. I was going to ask if Noraly was a geologist. I enjoy the explanations and pointing out the differences in things that most of us don't even recognize.

I remember hearing on a previous podcast you saying that you thought riding through the US would be boring. No Way! The US geography is AMAZING! I'm from Canada and every time I drive the US, I'm floored by the variety.

The Tetons don't look real, so clear! I'm guessing we are all very lucky you were there at a primo time. The most important part of teaching is to make people care enough to learn and you are fantastic at that. How the mountains evolved is really interesting once you learn and think about it. This is so exciting....
It’s so fun to see Noraly on my own stomping grounds. It was actually just off one of the roads you came in on as you were explaining the geology of the Tetons where I experienced one of the few earthquakes that I’ve actually noticed and felt in my life. I was camping in my tent on top of a trailer and felt the tent shake. I thought it must have been an animal trying to get at me, but I looked around and there was nothing around, and no wind. It chalked it up to mystery, but a day or so later, my aunt asked me if I had felt the earthquake, and sure enough, there had been one (not of the 4-6ft variety…I think it was around 5 on the Richter scale) at just the time I felt the shake. I hadn’t realized there was a fault line right there until this video!
I never knew there was a fault line there! We used to live in Montana and visited the Tetons quite often back in the day.

Very interesting to learn about the relatively "young" age of the Teton Mountains as compared to the Appalachian Mountains which are 480 million years old. At one time the Appalachians were as tall as the Alps and the Rockies before erosion wore them down.
It's so nice to see you in a relaxed mood and having a ball with the geology you're seeing. I enjoy your chats on the subject especially if there's mining involved, because I was a mining research engineer at a British university at one point, but anything geology-related will do just fine.

It suggests that it is less then 7000 years old and it was created through the great flood in Noah's days.

I've always been humbled as a human being when I read or learn just how old these mountains or any other geologic formations are in comparison to our brief life span on earth! They were here before us will be here LONG after we're gone. These spectacular treasures should always be revered and respected for all to enjoy, for generations to come! I love the Grand Tetons and went there on one of my first long motorcycle trips. I knew a bit about the mountains, but I learned more from you today. Just fascinating! I think the Jenny Lake region is one of the most beautiful spots I have seen anywhere.

Ever since I was a little boy I always loved studying geography and geology, and about the natural resources. The maps that I loved were the ones that showed the farming and the fishing and the mining and all the nature related industries. I haven't been to the Tetons yet but it's coming! And here's a tip when traveling through those areas make sure your food is well contained in double smell proof containers.
It’s so funny that she relates huge breakfast with being so American. Haven’t had a breakfast like that in …. I don’t know the last time I had a breakfast like that… Looks good though. Back to my protein shake and coffee. I enjoy the vids!

That’s probably because most Europeans are use to just what we call a Continental breakfast. Coffee, juice , toast, or Danish.
We're not all gorging ourselves. We just provide the facilitation of gluttony.

The Tetons are amazing. And just east a little bit, the Absarokas are just plain jaw dropping. My brother lived in the mountains of Wyoming for years, out the front window was those amazing pinnacles.... Doo-boys is how Wyoming pronounces Dubois. My brother lived West of town about 12 miles. The pass from Jackson up into Idaho is my favorite direction from there. No fun with a heavily loaded truck though! Awesome video as ever.

I live in eastern part of United States and do most of my exploring in Appalachian mountains but do plan a few trips to western part in near future! Such a beautiful area. So nice to see the view from those backroads instead of from the highways and interstates.
There are some 2 lane paved roads in that area, but it is hundreds of miles from the nearest Interstate thankfully.

Thanks for the geology lesson. I haven been to that area many times but never thought about then the time those mountains formed. It kind of makes one think about this global warming when the earth has been around for billions of years surviving many changes

I continue to be amazed at how much value your background as a geologist adds to your experience - and, by extension, to my experience in peeking over your shoulder. Of course it also makes me feel pretty stupid. I would look at the Tetons and say "Wow! Pretty mountains". But you can deeply appreciate what you are seeing! So lucky for you to have this education, and the courage to get out there and see it in person!
