  • In this episode I am entering Nisga'a territory, along the banks of the Nass river. A volcanic eruption about 250 years ago forever changed the landscape and its people.

I never cease to be amazed about Noraly's cinematographic skills and hare ability to not only capture the visual aspects of a location but to also impart a sense of the feeling and spirit of the locations she visits. Hollywood could take lessons here, and learn that their contrived flash doesn't beat Noraly's sensitive and genuine substance!

It's ironic that as a Canadian, how many more interesting & important facts that I have learned about my own country & the people who call it home, from someone who has only been in our country for less than a few weeks. The almost guaranteed opportunity to learn something new, when combined with never-ending incredible scenery & music makes most of Noraly's videos truly multifaceted, multisensory experiences. 10/10.

As a Canadian, I am so uneducated about our countries First Nations people. I think I could speak for a lot of us. Thank you so much for taking us around to different First Nations peoples and introducing us to their culture, way of life and history. It's absolutely fascinating! To think, that's only one small part of Canada, think of the rest of the country!
    PS.

Eventually, everyone of us realize that travelling is a beautiful way of learning, but sharing those travelling experiencies potentiate the educational power of it. This extraordinary combination of a kind and brave explorer + her ability to use modern communication instruments and to document herself about the places and people she is meeting is unbelivable!. And even more, for us the viewers to have the capacity to communicate our thoughts with the rest of the viewers is really amazing! For example, I am now learning the meaning of the term vicarious, thank you for your comment, so, I am not only learning about places, people, Geology, but even about my own lenguage (which is actually spanish, but we share the term vicarious (vicario in spanish), and I did not know the term). I think this experience Noraly is sharing with all of us has a deeper potential to bring us together as Humanity, with a good timing, when we are starting to realize that taking care of our planet is everybody's responsability and we need to already take action. We could say that TV documentals are already doing this, but I think this approach is even better, being real real, not real TV (I hope this is the case).

Packing all your belongings on a motorcycle for daily travel is hard enough. Physically it wears you out. To also create stunning cinematography, editing and educational content at the same time for presentation every other day is nothing short of Herculean. Brava Itchy Boots! Thank you and ride safe.

I've watched every episode, started in Norway then went back to the very start and watched them all, Noraly will have some stories to tell when she's old and sitting by the fire!!
I'm ill myself now and can't ride so it's great to follow this amazing journey, learned so much, I've seen places I never even heard of because of this amazing lady.

Thank you Noraly for this great video. Being from Oklahoma, we are very aware of the plight of the indiginous people. My own wife is from the Cherokee Tribe. It sounds like the Nisga'a people went through much of the same things that our own native Americans did. Many of our first natives gained sovereign control over their lands years ago. It caused much consternation among many, but we have since discovered that it has not caused any trouble at all and has benefitted the Indian nations greatly. Great video. Thank you.

It's definitely worth checking out if you spend the time. I've done 2 moto-camping trips up through there and it's lovely country. That section from the junction to Stewart around 28:52, especially on a clear day, is super cool!

So grateful for Noraly's constant efforts to visit with first peoples and provide ongoing cultural and geological appreciation. The color of the river water was stunningly beautiful. The two Hawaiian lava names are pāhoehoe (pronounced ‘paw hoey hoey’) and ʻaʻā (pronounced ‘ah ah’). As Noraly showed, the surface of aʻā lava is sharp, rough, and ‘clinkery’. Pāhoehoe lava surfaces are more smooth, with billowy, or ropy crust. A'ā moves faster and with more volume; pāhoehoe more slowly and with less volume. If one is very lucky, there are times when it's possible to walk on a recent pāhoehoe flow on Hawai`i island, feeling the heat from it, watching break outs on the surface, and, near dark, seeing the orange glow from the still hot lava through the cracks below your feet--if Pele is feeling generous and the park service cooperates.

WOW!

Also to answer your question the reason why each tribe has two clans ( I asked this same question and was told by my grandmother) it is because before European plagues we used to have 8 clans, but when our people came into contact with European diseases it started wiping out the entire people, all clans were rapidly dying out so in an attempt to save our culture and our nisga,a brothers the bigger clans “adopted” the smaller and dying clans thus forming 4 larger tribes with 4 main crest and a 4 sub crest. It is quite unique and is a sad reminder of those that were lost during early contact. Our people went from over 10,000 to less than 500 in less than one human lifetime. Today there are more than 5,000 of us! From a proud nisga’a!

Your descriptions of the people and scenery makes it so interesting. I love how you always get the history tied to the people you talk to. The scenery and roads all seem to be great. I never knew there were Lava flows thar for north and that young. Any issues finding fuel? Stay safe

There are no issues finding fuel in Northern BC, unless you require premium fuel, which may not be available at all gas stations in more remote places.

    GRACIAS NORALY!!!
    Saludos desde Argentina!
