    Excellent! We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎

    Cool project. You may want to lower your top end on the audio though, it's a little harsh. My wife thought it was raining from the background highs

    Tightening up on that parrell strap contraption. It just like putting your gauge blocks in a vice. I'll bet they don't ring anymore.

    Nice video, I would love to hear some narration along with it.

      Sorry, English is not my first language (forth, actually) and while being fully proficient in it, I am always a bit self-conscious about my accent and pronunciation.

      @@billzweigI understand. Personally I enjoy hearing other people's accents. Heck I can barely speak one language so am not in any place to judge your pronunciation. As I said I enjoyed the video, but it would be nice to have a voice to go along with it!

    Man you have a great collection of tools! What's the max capacity of the broacher?

    Thanks for this Bill, it will save me work calculating proper angles.
    I'm making one but using smaller bearings. One thing, on your dimension sheet you show a dimension of 41.6mm. I'm not sure where the two points of this dimension are. It looks like this dimension is not needed but I wanted to check with you in case I'm wrong. Also, what's the optimal tip protrusion?
    Thanks for your time and help.

    • @billzweig
      @billzweig  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 41.6 is the initial bore diameter machined concentric with the outside during the turning of the body. It can be smaller as the actual size is not important - it is just to make the final, 47mm angled bore easier to bore. The tool protrusion is adjusted so the tip will cross the axis of rotation at that point - the tip is just wobbling without ascribing a circle. So the amount of protrusion is determined by the rest of the geometry; the angle and the offset from the centre.

      This is the original "Moore" centring microscope used on my "Moore" jig borer. Can be used on a milling machine as well.

    Making a Simple Rotary Broach Tool. Step 1: buy $80,000.00 worth of machine tooling and set it all up in a shop in your $750,000.00 home.

    Where did you get the er20 collet chuck? Rather difficult to find an c20 er20 l50 chuck. Did you consider using a double row angular contact bearing instead?

    • @billzweig
      @billzweig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Collet chucks are quite inexpensive, got it from Aliexpress. Accuracy here is not that important. A double row angular contact bearing could work, however the axial force is considerable in this application and taper roller bearing is not more expensive.

      @@billzweig So silly question, but did you cut the shaft length down off a longer chuck?

    • @billzweig
      @billzweig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidng1105 Yes, the shaft was parted on a lathe. It is usually quite hard but carbide tool will have no problem.
