Hey, when I use my Apple TV with a Sonos arc I noticed my audio is much lower than my in built lg g3 app. Do you think Apple will upgrade their audio with the Apple TV in OS18?
Hope this is ported down to TvOS where it's most needed. I love my AppleTV 4K but it's biggest downside is it being unable to passthrough any Dolby format to my AVR and doing all the decoding itself, sending the AVR just multichannel PCM.
looking forward to to trying it out with sequioa. I use infuse on my AppleTVs to stream mkv backups of my disc LPCM with auromatic is OK but passthrough would be welcome
I’m curious what happens when you go to the midi settings. Can you now go above 8 channels? While not a huge deal it would be cool to see REW now able to send signals to all your channels as opposed the 8 channels it’s limited to now.
I just tried with the full version of Sequoia which has been available since yesterday. Using the HDMI connection to a Denon AVC-X3800H, which plays Dolby Atmos perfectly well via HDMI from an Apple 4K TV, the Mac output works for the AppleTV application in Dolby Atmos. However, Apple Music only outputs Stereo, irrespective of how the passthrough option is set. Very disappointing. The switch to Sequoia doesn''t seem to have changed things at all - Macs still can't output Dolby Atmos via HDMI.
This feature is all software but outputting in my case from a Mac with an HDMI port. I'm not sure how far back it applies or if it applies equally if using USBC to HDMI. I think it should.
@@Techthusiasm thanks for the info. Do you have any idea when Apple may stream lossless multichannel soundtracks through Apple TV other than the Infuse App from downloads ?
Hello, the official release of OS Sequoia of two days ago, contains HDMI passthrough? I didn't found any official news and Apple Support I called from Italy confirm is not present. Could you give us information about that? Thank you.
The big point IMO is, is Apple TV+ content source running lossless or not? My guess is, it is not, hence the observation. I will wait for infuse to implement this before we jump to any conclusions. Maybe I am mistaken, but this is what I think.
@@Techthusiasm On a side note, what happens if we use Quick time with lossless audio files? Does that go through as lossless? I think that would be a good test, considering we know that the source is lossless.
The average person is using tv speakers, as sad as that is, and Apple caters to the masses. Infuse though has been a massive benefit to ATV users and respect lossless audio.
@@Hamza-yu1ur Infuse cannot play anything other than the compressed audio format. FireCore (makers of Infuse) desperately want to support full fat audio and have even raised a petition with Apple to get it supported. Alas, Apple still does not ... even with this announcement.
@@pedromogga6928 not true. infuse supports lossless up to 7.1 LPCM from any DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD track. It’s just the atmos and direct bitstream pass through that’s been missing.
Hamza-yu1ur has an important point that a lot of folks don't understand. You can get lossless output with Infuse, yes. Just not Atmos or DTS:X. Decoding TrueHD and DTS-MA to PCM 7.1 is lossless output.
For what this added to the Mac, the Apple TV is already doing it in terms of DD+ lossy Atmos. So, we only need new ATV features if what they started leads to more.
Bro why didn't you test MacOS Firecore Infuse with a Dolby TrueHD bitstream MKV rip from a Bluray Ultra HD ISO or remux? Who knows maybe DTS bitstream will output? Like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare 2024 2160p UHD BluRay REMUX HDR HEVC TrueHD 7 1 Atmos @ 70 gigs . If this just passes lossy Dolby Digital Plus Atmos it is a fail.
I can give Infuse a run, but I assumed it won't do anything different until it gets some sort of update at least and given this just hit, it's too soon.
@Techthusiasm thank you Louis Rossman is ok with "downloading' content you own for optimal playback. Imagine a M4 MacOs with enough GPUs from AAA gaming and loseless 7.1 audiophile playback from Apple Music Classic. Etc. Sony PS5 Pro won't be able to catch up.
You should try Apple Music Atmos to see if it’s lossless audio

Thank you! I tried infuse with hopes to get bitstream for like Atmos or Trinnov demos I have on NAS…alas.
Not supported.
@@Techthusiasm on day…keep the hope alive! Apple TV will eventually get into higher bit rates - Sony has Bravia Core

This may not allow the Mac to bitstream lossless audio, but we'll see what else comes.

It won't work unfortunately. It can only send compressed audio ... exactly like the AppleTV.
Wonder how much Dolby D+ to TrueHD difference is? Probably 5-10% noticeable.
Stay on this - would be a game changer
For sure!
Great news nonetheless, I wonder if Infuse will play Atmos through Mac now?
I'm sure Infuse will jump on whatever new capabilities exist. The question is if this feature will allow lossless TrueHD Atmos bitstreaming.
@@Techthusiasm It doesn't.
It will play compressed audio .... thats it.

Is your Mac silicon based? Seems to be a requirement.
Great video, I think only the MacBook Pro M2 onwards supports multichannel audio out of the hdmi output?

No idea. This could a step towards it, or it honestly could still be never.
I’m afraid you’re probably right… kudos on the fast video!
It would be nice if they would bring 4k downloads with this update.
It would be cool get to high fidelity downloads on the Mac, for sure.
thanks for the info from Australia.

I believe the video still stands. That is not lossless passthrough. It's the passthrough as the Apple TV for purposes of using the TV app on Mac.
Doesn’t Disney + have 6:30 content for you to test with?
lossy is probably because it is from a stream, lossless you will need an mkv backup from a disc
Correct, they did not increase the quality of the audio. They just added the ability to pass what they have from a Mac.
does airplay in sequoia support dolby atmos?iOS18 and iPadOS supports now, but apple dose not mention sequoia
Not sure about AirPlay. I'd have to test.
I’m confused on one issue. I thought that QuickTime was gone.

Folks has asked about QuickTime, but I haven't had occasion to try it out.
Here’s hoping the ATV and the Plex app get the same update
They both already have it mate. This is simply to allow Macs with HDMI port to be able to send compressed audio out.
@@pedromogga6928 I never get Atmos to play through the Plex app on the ATV
Why has passthrough taken this long. Would be great if truehd passthrough would work with the apple tv 4k devices.

New and useful be good . Like xcode off the apple tv or iPad.
It's already on the AppletV ..... this is to bring the Macs with HDMI inline with AppleTV's.
This means we will be able to stream 4k movies via apple tv device?
No, this has nothing to do with Apple TV. It's for better playing content directly off a Mac (for now).

Like every stream app they use lossy atmos. Try UHD Blu-ray rips…

It could, but seemingly not yet. Still, any movement in this space means they are thinking about movie audio as a feature and that's good!

Apple TV for everything else …??

Why are techcompanies almost always are so minimalistic in telling what an update beholds?
For sure, I made the whole video talking about the need for details patch and upgrade notes.
Does it work with a USBC to HDMI adapter?
Hmm, good question. I don't have one of those try out. I would think so though.
Second one!
