UPS's are pretty awesome. Ive got all my network gear, NAS and computers connected to 3 different units to keep it all running when power goes down. For the big boy I went with an Eaton 5PX1500RTN which I stumbled upon when looking into APC products. It's pretty sweet looking and since they're used in server rooms I figure why not let it do the job at home. The only home theater gear I bothered with was my projector so I could power it down properly if the power got cut and not risk the bulb blowing or losing life. Probably nothing wrong with it but I didnt like the idea of putting audio gear on a UPS. Seemed unnecessary and with all the built in tech I wasn't sure if it could negatively affect the audio gear. So just went with a typical surge protection/filtering for that stuff.
Yeah, we will see if I keep the amps on the UPS setup. Seems to work fine to so far. Nothing is tripping or limiting. I'd like to get a small/silent UPS for the projector as well potentially.
I agree. We will see if I keep the audio amps on the system as is. Seems to be working stable so far. I wouldn't mind a small, silent UPS for my projector as well. Need to find one, but I want it fanless.
Changing the outlet from 15 to 20 Amp is not allowed unless the wiring back to the panel is suitable to handle 20 Amperes. Just changing the breaker and the receptacle (outlet) is a code violation and could result in a fire. If unfamiliar call an electrician.
@ even if there were issues with the amps I don’t think they’d be big issues where you’d notice them. I just don’t think there’s any benefit so I try to limit the UPS to devices that benefit from a UPS. I think Eaton discontinued theyre small UPS but Im pretty sure Cyberpower still has one for like $60. I’ve seen them at the Home Depot. Obviously not going to last as long as the bigger ones but you only need it to buy you a few minutes to shut the projector down. I’ve got the bulb based JVC and I think it takes like 2 minutes to fully shutdown and cool the bulb. Not sure about the laser models take but doubt it’s any longer.
I looked at it. I already had the WattBox strip it the rack. The UB unit is only 15A rated. I liked the idea of both pieces being WattBox cohesively, and I have Control4 so they tie into that. I am really enjoying the Ubiquiti stuff though and am considering more of their offerings. In this case, I think the WattBox is the superior solution.
Great idea. Gotta do something similar. Those are expensive, but well worth it when one considers the cost of electrically damaged theater equipment.😉

Sorry, I should have listened longer. You are correct with the 12 AWG wire.

Any particular reason for not going with either of the Ubiquiti PDUs?
