I discovered the 3-finger drag about a year ago, it's great. Then I discovered it works to select text! Just move the cursor to the beginning, drag down with 3 fingers to select the text, then hit CMD-C, V, or whatever you need to do. Saves a bit of time.
3 finger drag was default when I got my first mac. Ever since they have moved it around a few times but I always find it. The 3 finger drag is extremely handy. Dragging and dropping, selecting text, resizing windows and so on. It’s the first thing I set up on every new mac !
The problem with text replacement is that in many applications, it’s not clear how to accept the replacement: by pressing the return key or spacebar or by tapping on the suggestion. In many cases tapping is an odd UX, using the return key ends up triggering the CTA button and spacebar does not do the replacement. Apple should make this UX uniform.
i've been using the text replacement for years on my mac and iphne and space has worked really well for me on both and thats coming form having to send a lot of the same emails to clients, text messages or replies back to clients etc etc never tapped on the suggestion or return key.. always spacebar for me tbh
35 years of mac-using and already the first tip is great. Used text replacement more like character replacement. Never thought to use it for the standard e-mails i sent. Great tip… the rest also. There are som many handy tips here that i tend to forget. Thanks for your video!
To keep my Mac awake, I use a hot corner which has been configured to disable screensaver. So it's just a quick finger swipe to that corner to keep the Mac awake.
Be careful with the scanned signatures. I had a financial loan form rejected because the three signatures required (no idea why they needed three!) were identical, so the finance people assumed it was a fake. We had to print all the forms out and sign them all again.
I've been watching your videos for quite a long time - for me, this one was 100% the most useful one you've EVER done so thank you for this. At least half of these things were revelations! Now must make notes to avoid forgetting.....
So many of these show obvious things that everyone who's used a Mac for more than 5 minutes knows. This genuinely showed me a good 4/5 really useful tips that I had no idea about. Thank you
I've used the Preview app to sign so many documents in the dozen or so years that I've been a Mac user. It was probably one of the first WOW moments I had with a Mac. I still encounter people that don't know about how powerful Preview is as an app.
I think it’s interesting that the “stationery pad” template feature was the way you created any document in the Lisa Office System 7/7. Mac didn’t get it until System 7, and I think it went away again in OS-X. Not sure when it came back. But it was even called “Stationery Pad” on the Lisa!
OMG I can't believe I never noticed the preview feature could allow me to fill my PDF's. /facepalm. I've been printing and scanning them for ages. Thanks!
This is tremendously helpful! I get a lot of forms I have to fill in or sign and I had no idea that I could stop printing and scanning them. Often I receive them as a PDF or MSWord document, my iMac converts them to Pages then I have to fiddle with them, resave in their original format and send them back. These tips will save me a lot of time.
Wow, that template feature you showed at the end would have saved me so much time over the years had I known about it earlier 😅 But now I know for the future, thank you so much
Hey Tom, I find your videos extremely valuable and I have just become a member to read your PDF's at my convenience. Much Love from India! Love your tutorials, tips & tricks.
The text replacement feature will be very helpful for me. I help with sending email blasts to the community. A LOT of CMD-C and CMD-V. This will speed things up considerably.
Wow mate- i'd stopped following ya for a bit as I'd already binge watched your content and I needed some help with my mac so here I'm again- and the quality hasn't dropped one bit. Thank you for your service. Love and regards from India
Really good video! The Terminal command is a nice hack. I usually use autofill for email addresses and such. I can never remember what shortcuts I set up for text replacement. 😅
Excellent video, thanks! I wish the option was named "Template" rather than "Stationary Pad" because I had seen it before but never occurred to me what it was for. Also, I was a bit puzzled by my Mac's inability to see my iPhone and then proceeded to kill 10 minutes trying to figure out why. Apple documentation said both devices had to have bluetooth enabled so I wasted time trying to pair them (which turns out is unnecessary). Finally realized, I just needed a Finder window with some open space or that option doesn't appear. Similarly, email only shows the phone if you first click in the body first. Doh!
Have used Mac for years though primarily Windows and for work. Some of these I knew and use, but most were new or a different take than I knew. Great concise and usable info. Many thanks!
Thank you! I’ve been using text replacement for years and it does sync to all Apple devices. However there are some websites that won’t take it for instance if I put in my shortcut for my email address I will get an error that my email address was not valid and I have to go back and type it in the old-fashioned way. But, 8 times out of10 it works works seamlessly, I use it every day! It also comes in handy if auto correct is NOT correct, my shortcut is there waiting for me!
Amazing and very useful content. They do have a potential to save a lot of time. Love the way you share content and how precise you are. Congratulations and thanks 😊
1:32 you can also scan documents in files app or take a photo on your phone then AirDrop them if you want to keep the copy of the file in both locations (iPhone and Mac)
Text replacement is one of my favorite tips/tricks to use daily. I also disagree with the laptop webcam for meetings. This MacBook camera is just fine and something using the iPhone camera is not very convenient.
I didn't know about the signature via iPad feature. Since I have a mini with an Apple pencil, this is great! Also, the convert image option is something I probably use daily. Great tips!
for screen share its much easier to connect to their mac you can go to message on the mac and send a test message then click I icon there's a screen share icon right there I use this all the time with my remote clients as a i.t person
Wow.... just WOW. As a gift in return, my advice is that you reduce your headroom. You have your eyes position at about 50% from the top of the screen. Shoot for about 1/3rd of the way. Give it a try and see it you like it better,
To prevent my mac from sleep, I simply disabled the sleep mode in settings when the macbook is open. When I don’t want it to stay awake, I can simply close my MacBook.
awesome stuff I think everyone could benefit from. I have book marked as I am sure I will be referring back a fair few times. Thank for the great content - as always.
I think this content and production is amazing. I just wish the titles didn't make me feel so bad..."You're doing this WRONG!" "Stop doing this" "Your using Mail wrong!". Haha
One bank would not accept an “electronic” signature. While I was able to add all my data to the PDF file on my iPad, they made me print the document, sign it, scan it back into the computer, and then send it to them.
@@donlibes I have no idea. After I sent them the electronically signed document they asked whether it was electronically signed. When I said yes, they told me they wouldn’t accept it, so I had to redo it.

The sign up process isn't working. Just keeps the first and last names grey with moving dots.
You’ve genuinely shown me 3 or 4 things I didn’t know I could do and I have been a mac user for 10 years
Instead of caffeinate, just create a “no sleep” hot corner in system settings. Place you pointer in that corner, and it’ll prevent sleep.
Find these things
1. Text replacement - create shortcuts
2. Take notes and scans from any other connected devices
3. Screen share
4. Convert images png, jpeg, jpg
5. iPhone as webcam use things like belkin
6 drag - point and control- use 3 fingers
7. Autofill
8. Signature in PdF
9. Locked and templatoze a document

This setting was much more visible once, at the times of Leopard... (probably Snow Leopard, don't remember). I thought apple removed it.
Ok this is super handy for my workflow !
Wow, Thanks!
3 finger drag was default when I got my first mac. Ever since they have moved it around a few times but I always find it.
The 3 finger drag is extremely handy. Dragging and dropping, selecting text, resizing windows and so on.
It’s the first thing I set up on every new mac !
Yeah, that option is cool until you notice it disabled the three finger swipe up and down gestures which is way more useful!! 🤨
I never comment, but this was genuinely one of the best feature-rich videos to help with productivity that I've seen. Thank you.

In many cases tapping is an odd UX, using the return key ends up triggering the CTA button and spacebar does not do the replacement. Apple should make this UX uniform.
Yes I tried it with Outlook and it doesn't seem to work.
I put the letter q after each replacement
i've been using the text replacement for years on my mac and iphne and space has worked really well for me on both

What the heck! The image conversion alone would have saved me hours. Great tips!!
Thank you so much, partikular for the screen sharing feature. My mom is now happy, since I can remotely give her a necessary support.
Be careful with the scanned signatures. I had a financial loan form rejected because the three signatures required (no idea why they needed three!) were identical, so the finance people assumed it was a fake. We had to print all the forms out and sign them all again.
Just create a digital signature several times and you will have several signatures you can use one by one
I've been watching your videos for quite a long time - for me, this one was 100% the most useful one you've EVER done so thank you for this. At least half of these things were revelations! Now must make notes to avoid forgetting.....
1:59 Mind blown! I use the notes app for PDFs but never knew about the ability to scan from the finder window. Genius! Thanks for another great video!
So many of these show obvious things that everyone who's used a Mac for more than 5 minutes knows. This genuinely showed me a good 4/5 really useful tips that I had no idea about. Thank you
I actually thought that I knew all the tips and tricks in macOS. There were actually a few new ones here, thank you very much!

I’m that guy who shares tips like this with other Mac users. My secret is to keep watching @ProperHonestTech because I learn something. every time.
Happy to be your 'tip source' 🙂
This is the first time I found your channel, and I have to say this is the most useful information that I’ve seen for MAC. Thank you!😮

Usually such videos are prepared just to be prepared and tell things that most users know, but this video is really useful.
Every time I visit the channel I learn something new. Thank you so much for the hints and tips always useful stuff here.

You’re already know, you are the best Apple expert on TH-cam 🎉 thank you, I always learn something new.
Just got a MacBook Air (my very first non-windows laptop). These tips are great. Thank you!
The text replacement feature will be very helpful for me. I help with sending email blasts to the community. A LOT of CMD-C and CMD-V. This will speed things up considerably.
Great points. I learned a few things and I’m an almost 30-year Mac user. Bravo 👏🏼. You’ve earned a new sub.

The three finger drag is incredible
I usually don't comment on such videos but you, sir, are exceptional. I tip my hat to you and I just subscribed. Thank you!
the Pdf conversion and the signature are a lifesaver.
Thank you so much.
Really good video! The Terminal command is a nice hack. I usually use autofill for email addresses and such. I can never remember what shortcuts I set up for text replacement. 😅
Wow!! I use templates for school and I will start using your method! Love it! You are so clever!!
I wasn't expecting this to be this helpful. Good job!
Screen sharing - you’ve saved this family tech helpdesk!! Thank you so so much ❤

The convert image is so helpful!
Thank you for the excellent tips (especially about not messing up my templates). I liked & Subscribed!
The stationary pad button is so useful for CV's! Thank you 🙏

Perfect support for even experienced Mac user!
Thanks for these! Some of them are going to come in handy.
I cannot thank ' text replacement' enough for saving my time so many times❤
Control C also does it instead of manually forcing the terminal to quit
I did NOT know half of these! Great video. Thanks.
Love these tips. I am fairly new to Mac so still struggle with it. If you have any tips using 2 screens that would be helpful x
You have shown me things I've never known about before....thanks so much. (I'm subscribing.)

This was fantastic, thanks for making this! Tip 1 is gold.
Thanks for the tips !! Much appreciated
ScreenSharing is super helpful. I use the feature over Tailscale to access my other Macs in different places.
Awesome tips, thank you very much :) I will definitely be looking into this video again, slower this time.

I use clop to resize/compress images and it does a great job.
Thanks! You r da bomb😊.
This was SUPER helpful! Thank you!
Really liked the video, was very useful ❤️
Wow. Thank you. The text replacement works great for full page email templates. I wish Apple would allow the same on iOS instead of only sentences ☹️.
Also, that Text Replacements synch with iPhone, iPad where they are, imho, even more useful.
Amazing video. So many great tips
