Fun fact: across the street from St. John's Cemetery at 89-70 Cooper Ave is Archie Bunker's house, or more accurately, the house seen in the opening credits of the famous "All In The Family" TV show from the 70s.

I just retired after 38yrs as a cemetery sexton {fancy for gravedigger}. You said your grandparents got a 25 grave {plot} section. Michael, both my grandparents, my mother's parents, Ernie and Grace Radlein are buried in St. John 's Cemetery. I remember seeing Genovese's and Gambino's mausoleums the times we visited our grandparents grave a number of times.
My parents are buried in St John’s in a family plot that’s three graves wide. Purchased in 1928 with perpetual care for $100.00. My mothers father was a stone mason. The large family mausoleum buildings on the hill when you drive in, are tremendous granite stone block structures. There are huge winged Angel monuments, and different style grave markers. Even the small 5-6 foot tall simple granite headstones are imposing. I’ve spent countless hours talking to my dad at our gravesite, bringing him a coffee to share while I empty my heart. The highlight of my cemetery visit is always as I walk amongst the other families tombs and graves, marveling at the construction and reading the names and dates. How some go back to the early 1900’s but have weathered the ravages of time. It’s sad that with all of our modern innovation we can’t duplicate the work of those early stonemason’s. We had some if these old cemeteries in Minn. Mom would drag me out there on holidays to lay flowers at a relative's grave. I'd sneak away and peek in the mausoleum windows, very eerie. You knew the occupants were well off residing in a mausoleum versus a headstone. Really interesting Michael, thanks and blessed Easter to you and yours.
Mr. Franzese, thank you for doing these videos. You remind us that there are one of two endings for those who join the mob - behind bars or six feet under. Congratulations on hitting one million.
Michael I really respect you. You turned your life around, became a well spoken and highly intelligent man, I enjoy listening to you as you express yourself so well not only on mob stories but on other issues of the day (Jussie Smollett, Will Smith). Keep up the good work!

Happy Easter from New Zealand :) I always appreciate your incite, especially regarding mausoleums, which isnt common here. We have our own family cemetary, we would play 'spotlight' as kids, and would be scared to go near there. My grandmother would tell us off, and say "dont be scared there, because that is your family" ❤
My nephew went to New Orleans with me once. I told him how they bury people above ground and showed him a cemetery. He wanted to get out of there and never wanted to go back.
Been fascinated by the mob and the Families since a kid. Bought a book called “Pictorial History of the Mafia”, and that sparked my interest. Interesting to see where a lot of these guys are buried. Great to hear some of the personal insights you bring to this. Thoroughly enjoy your videos. Hoping for a million.

I used to live in Hillside IL , there's a cemetery there where Sam Gianca, and Al Capone are buried several mobsters buried there. I've driven past this cemetery your discussing here, it is huge . The biggest cemetery I've ever seen.

Michael, huge fan of your videos! Always bringing us quality content! I’m Greek and was wondering if you could do a video on any Greek mobsters you knew or your dad may have known? I know they also had a big presence in NYC and Philly.
I have heard something about a Greek connection with the mob on one of the pod casts can’t remember the details but they had some connection with the Greeks in Astoria maybe Michael knows something about it from memory it was something to do with gambling operations
Hi Michael, Back where I’m originally from in Chicago, we have a similar cemetery that became the final resting place of many mob figures. The cemetery is Mt. Carmel in suburban Hillside, IL. My family has a plot across the street at Queen of Heaven, where I’ll go when the time comes. Some of the mob guys buried at Mt. Carmel are: Al Capone, along with two of his brothers, Frank and Ralph. The family plot is located right at the entrance so nobody has to search over 200 acres to find him. Also of renown are: Frank Nitti, Dean O’Banion, Sam Giancana, Hymie Weiss, “Machine Gun” Jack McGurn, and many others. Back when I was still living in Chicago, a young Italian/American priest at our church once said, “When Catholics die, they go to heaven; when Italians die, they go to mausoleums.” Have a blessed Easter-He Is Risen.
I have a family a few members buried in Mt. Olivet in Chicago. One is only few feet from Al Capone’s original grave site. Head stone is still there for his family.
@@phillipmarlowe0525 You must be a southsider. Me, as well. I remember that Capone was originally buried in Mt. Olivet. Actually, it made more sense for him to be buried there, as Capone was associated with the south side.
I just started watching you. Thank you. I've always been intrigued by and been interested in this kind of stuff. Love watching you and listening to you. God Bless
Love how you just reeled through the names and told little stories. That is history, from a person that witnessed or was close to someone who knew these men. I was interested in the mob since I read The Velachi Papers, as a boy. Interesting history the Italians in America, no one had it easy coming to America. I always thought Carlo Gambino was the smartest of them all. A hundred years from now, they will still be making movies about you guys.
Yes Michael. I too have my grandparents aunts uncles and cousins buried there. I am happy to see how you turned your life around. My uncle and my grandfather also lived that life but both have passed from ill health. I was raised in Williamsburg Brooklyn. Both my mom's parents Italian born in a town in Naples. Can we talk?? Lol
I've always been interested in Mafia stories. I never wanted to join but it always fascinated me. I've listened to TH-cam videos about various life stories of some of them. You should tell some stories both funny and serious that you can without getting in trouble. I'd love to hear some of them or details or trivia stories not yet heard of on any platform of social media. I'd love to hear them. I don't know if you and Sammy are on speaking terms but you should both do that. I for one would watch each and every one of them. Thanx for what you do. You and Sammy both. I love it and the stories. Keep up the good work.
Hello Michael! I wish you and your family a lovely Easter celebration. The video was interesting because it is a stark reminder that no matter the route we follow in life, all roads traverse 6 feet under. On a side note, I did not realise that my mom was intently listening to you while I played your videos. She asked why you discuss prison so much, and when I answered, she said quite seriously I hope he wasn’t framed. I almost fell out of my chair. My mother is a prim, proper, polite Indian mother, almost Victorian in her ways, who taught us to have an ironclad respect for the law and to trust the system. You have made inroads with my tough mother. My compliments! She never listens to me.
Its amazing to hear all youve been through Michael. All of your videos are intense, informative and interesting. Gods power to save his people is also truly amazing and full of grace. God bless you and yours

It's amazing how small the world is, and the people you meet or become friends with. Had a friend and physical therapist who came from the Colombo Family, he broke away and only his mother kept in contact with him. He finally met with his father and relatives again before his father passed. And met with a old couple who told stories about Al Capone, his father was a sheriff in Wisconsin to a town Capnoe frequently went.

Mike made a mistake…you can’t see St. John’s from the BQE. It’s tucked in Middle Village. His mistook Calvary Cemetery off the BQE. That’s where Vito Corleone was buried in The Godfather movie.
You have a great channel.my grandma savino grew up in the Bronx in the 20s and 20s and although she new never to say anything about anything...as a kid until she passed away I never got tired of hearing stories from things she witnessed. She knew Joe the Baker Catania and witnessed the entire hit
When I was in Corleone ( Sicily ) I went to the cemetery to see Riina's and Provenzano's gravestone. the most powerful bosses in Italy. Let me tell you that, tons of people go to see them.
Interesting you picked a cemetery to discuss in this episode. That indicates some depth of thought, some culture, some appreciation of spaces and design. That is good on you as a mobster (past). Forest Home Cemetery is probably the most renowned cemetery in Milwaukee among locals. I doubt it is a cemetery known outside of Milwaukee but among the parochial culture of Milwaukee Forest Home Cemetery has inspired local documentaries and TH-cam tours.
Hello michael, wonderful video! It got me thinking. This past april 3rd, my dear grandfather passed away from illness, very suddenly. I thought i had months left with him, turns out i didn’t even have a week. Couldn’t even say goodbye to him. He was buried in a coast town, in a cemetery right by the sea, a very beautiful resting place. I don’t know why, but what you said about how we need to plan about where we are going to end up, got me thinking about how we will be remembered. I know my grandfather will be very fondly remembered. Like you, i have a very big family, and he was like the big tree that united all of the branches of my family. How about you? Have you ever thought about your videos as a part of your legacy? As a sort of testament to your life?
Would you ever consider in doing a memory walk of the old neighbourhood, the stories and the insight to the good times too ? Totally enjoy your videos Buona Pasqua!
This is also very interesting but I thought this video was going to be about the NY neighborhood called The Hole which is believed to be the burial site of a lot to mob figures who were disposed of. Would love your breakdown about The Hole, @Michael Franzese, if you care to do one. The stories I have already heard about it are pretty fascinating. I even spent some time with google maps looking around that place.
Many years ago I went with a church group to visit the federal prison in Springfield, Mo. For some reason I was asked to speak to the men gathered for a service. Completely unprepared I have no idea now what I said. However, do remember how I started: "Don't know about you guys, but I've made a few mistakes in my life." They all laughed and I went on from there.
Great story. Lol. I had a death row ministry in the 1990s and really enjoyed telling them about Jesus. I told them that they were missionaries in a dark mission field.. they took it to heart.
I really respect the way you only talk about the guys who are gone and nobody who's still around. You're a solid guy Mike.

Happy Good Friday Michael. Peace and love always 🙏
Mr. Franzese, thank you for doing these videos. You remind us that there are one of two endings for those who join the mob - behind bars or six feet under. Congratulations on hitting one million.
Love these backstories on the old mob heads. Thank you Mr. Franzese
Hey Michael! I wanted to wish you and your family a Happy Easter! Enjoy. God Bless from The Bronx 👊🙏🇺🇸
Michael I really respect you. You turned your life around, became a well spoken and highly intelligent man, I enjoy listening to you as you express yourself so well not only on mob stories but on other issues of the day (Jussie Smollett, Will Smith). Keep up the good work!
Aloha Mike,
Solid report! You are a very respectful man, whose learned from past experience but never condemning! Keep up the good work!
Amazing video. Respect. Mafia men took care of their families and their neighbors. I wish they lived in my neighborhood; I know they'd take out the trash for sure. May these Mafia Dons all Rest in Peace. Respect
u are an asshole, praising these murders. who taking care of their victims families.
How is Mike not at a million yet, his content is killer and educational
Happy Easter from New Zealand :)
I always appreciate your incite, especially regarding mausoleums, which isnt common here. We have our own family cemetary, we would play 'spotlight' as kids, and would be scared to go near there. My grandmother would tell us off, and say "dont be scared there, because that is your family" ❤
🙋♀️
Happy Easter to you as well
🙏🇨🇦
My nephew went to New Orleans with me once. I told him how they bury people above ground and showed him a cemetery.
He wanted to get out of there and never wanted to go back.
Been fascinated by the mob and the Families since a kid. Bought a book called “Pictorial History of the Mafia”, and that sparked my interest. Interesting to see where a lot of these guys are buried. Great to hear some of the personal insights you bring to this. Thoroughly enjoy your videos. Hoping for a million.
Fascinating, I’ve been watching your videos exponentially. Couldn’t stop myself from subscribing. I don’t agree with certain things but am a sinner myself and love the way you turned your life around, hopefully I can learn to also. Brilliant work. I can’t wait for you to hit a million. Top man.
Michael, great video as always, such a fascinating storyteller! Thank God that you can share your insight and expertise on a variety of topics!
I used to live in Hillside IL , there's a cemetery there where Sam Gianca, and Al Capone are buried several mobsters buried there. I've driven past this cemetery your discussing here, it is huge . The biggest cemetery I've ever seen.
My son is buried in hillside, also all the children that died in the great Chicago fire. It is a beautiful awesome cemetery.😢
It’s Mt Carmel Cemetery
Happy Easter Michael, and thanks for taking the time to create this video. Regarding Netflix, I know they are probably throwing a ton of money for the project but don't let them commercialize it anymore. Please try to keep it more personal and from the heart like you are now. You are bringing the story to a level never seen before. Thank you for that. God Bless you and your family. John.
Great way to witness to viewers Mr. Franzese. Respect!
Michael, huge fan of your videos! Always bringing us quality content! I’m Greek and was wondering if you could do a video on any Greek mobsters you knew or your dad may have known? I know they also had a big presence in NYC and Philly.
I'll second that. Would love to hear something about the Greek mob in NY.
I third that 😄
I have heard something about a Greek connection with the mob on one of the pod casts can’t remember the details but they had some connection with the Greeks in Astoria maybe Michael knows something about it from memory it was something to do with gambling operations
It’s funny how the Greek mob in NY was mostly just Italian Americans because the Greek mob is more relaxed abt their members
@@seantaylor5051 Yeah. But some of us Greeks can trace all of our ancestors back to the old country. Real greaseball shit. 😁
Back when I was still living in Chicago, a young Italian/American priest at our church once said, “When Catholics die, they go to heaven; when Italians die, they go to mausoleums.”
Have a blessed Easter-He Is Risen.
My family is also buried there. My parents are near Big Al. Incredibly beautiful cemetary.
Been to both locations. Lots of names in both. Not too far from my house in New Lenox
John Dillinger are also burried in Chicago
I have a family a few members buried in Mt. Olivet in Chicago. One is only few feet from Al Capone’s original grave site. Head stone is still there for his family.
@@phillipmarlowe0525 You must be a southsider. Me, as well. I remember that Capone was originally buried in Mt. Olivet. Actually, it made more sense for him to be buried there, as Capone was associated with the south side.
This was a great video Michael. Good job! 👊🏻
Really appreciate your stories so very interesting and entertaining. Love it !
I just started watching you. Thank you. I've always been intrigued by and been interested in this kind of stuff. Love watching you and listening to you. God Bless
Happy Easter to you and all your family, Michael. Keep up the great work you’re doing.
Good evening Sir. Have a blessed Easter weekend.
I just discovered your TH-cam channel. I absolutely love it. You are not doing this for sensationalism but as a history lesson.
Thank you.
I'm from Richmond Hill, and have friends and relatives there. Everytime I wiki a mobster there resting place is St Johns!
Awsome comment! One of the reasons I love YT so much is these little stories of people I don't know and never will meet yet I get a little insight!
Its amazing to hear all youve been through Michael. All of your videos are intense, informative and interesting. Gods power to save his people is also truly amazing and full of grace. God bless you and yours
My favorite of all your videos ❤. Great job on the clear presentation of the Gospel! 😇 Stopped the video to read the Franzese headstone. 😢 Hope to meet them all in Glory! 🙏
Me encantan cada uno de sus vídeos, un fuerte abrazo Michael Franzese
This was a great video, thanks. I remember passing that cemetery when i was a kid working in the city with my dad. My grandparents are buried there i will definitely go see them next time im in NY. Love your podcast. God bless!
Mr. Franzese, kudos to you and the team at SLICES. The Calzone is amazing! btw a relative of mine met you at T.I. he was an official with Rosario Gambino for the soccer league there. Rosario and my relative are both Inter FC fans.
Utterly fascinating! Stumbled across your channel after watching the De Niro, Pesci, Scorsese and Pacino interview, promoting ‘The Irishman’. Fantastic interview, brilliant film❤️
The movie is notoriously untrue.
SUP BOSS, LOVE THE VIDEOS, GONNA CATCH UP ON ALL THE PREVIOUS ONES TODAY, I LOVE THE STORIES AND LEARNING FROM U, THANK U🙏..HAVE A LOVELY DAY SIR, GOD BLESS 😊👍
Love the videos Mr. Franzese
One more on the way to 1 million! Awesome content, brother. I’m a comic book writer and a Christian too but I just write about the kinds of things you lived. I’m so thankful God brought you out of that life and into His glorious light.
I absolutely love all of your stories. I am so glad I found you youtube. I have been binge watching your videos and learnig so much. Thank you sir for sharing your life stories. God bless you.
I used to pass by this cimetery back in 1998 , i was walking and remember being impressed by the size of it . I never knew many mobbsters where buried there.
I never knew Lucky Luciano was buried there, especially since he died in Sicily
Mike made a mistake…you can’t see St. John’s from the BQE. It’s tucked in Middle Village. His mistook Calvary Cemetery off the BQE. That’s where Vito Corleone was buried in The Godfather movie.
@@ronlinfonte2651 that’s right!
Michael Franzese always had the makings of a varsity TH-cam content creator.
You have a great channel.my grandma savino grew up in the Bronx in the 20s and 20s and although she new never to say anything about anything...as a kid until she passed away I never got tired of hearing stories from things she witnessed. She knew Joe the Baker Catania and witnessed the entire hit
You’re an amazing story teller Michael.
I love the nicknames all these guys have/had. That’s what I find most fascinating about this.
Incredible video and cemetery. So many famous mob guys in one place. I must admit i would love to go visit and pay respects. Thanks Michael. 😎💜💚👍👍👍
Michael, I am from Bulgaria, AMAZING, please tell me which locations? Great content as always.
Thank you Michael for another great video. Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday with your family!
When I was in Corleone ( Sicily ) I went to the cemetery to see Riina's and Provenzano's gravestone. the most powerful bosses in Italy. Let me tell you that, tons of people go to see them.
I really enjoy watching your videos because they help preserve history for posterity and your oration 2nd to none. It
Thank You very much Michael. You are truly incredible!!!
Mike, Happy Easter to you and your family.
Great content Michael! Do you have a cemetery picked out for yourself? Is location important to you? Thanks again for the wonderful information!
This was an EXCELLENT video, I live in NYC and know about this cemetery. God Bless You.
God Bless you brother Michael. Thank you for your testimony.
I even spent some time with google maps looking around that place.
tristramcoffin,. Already has a video on "The Hole." Check it out, " John Gotti's The Hole" by Michael Franzese.
Michael Franzese you deliver the narrative so well. Love your videos
... Michael you're a source of inspiration ...GOD Bless you continually 🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼
