With all due respect to Senator Cruz, the texts are not as damning as he makes them out to be. The problem is not that test pilots discovered problems with the MCAS that would lead to the loss of two passenger carrying aircraft, but that giving the 737Max pilot the experience through the seat of his pants that he would receive while flying a 737, the MCAS is frequently adjusting the trim. As these particular pilots are testing the flight simulator, they are not fully informed about what MCAS is supposed to do, so they do not connect the trim adjustments to their operation of the flight controls. The talk of sending queries to 'aero' tells us that the sim is not behaving as expected, so the pilots need to know if it is something that happens in the aircraft, not just the sim. The simulator pilots have no reason to expect that their complaint of the frequent trim adjustments has any relation with safety. That being said, there is a safety issue underlying the texts-- with MCAS providing so many commands to the horizontal stabilizer trim, it is not immediately obvious when the MCAS trims the horizontal stabilizer for the wrong reason. The following description of events is my speculation. Not only am I not a 737 pilot, I am not any sort of pilot and everything I know about flying comes from watching air disaster documentaries. I hope that I understand what is the sequence of events, but I could be so far from truth that, not only am I not right, I am not even wrong. Normal transition from the 'take off' phase to 'climb to cruising altitude' phase of a 737Max flight: Flaps are fully retracted, but the autopilot has yet to be engaged, so the MCAS becomes active. There is no reason for the MCAS to adjust the horizontal trim, so there is no spin of the wheels. The power is reduced from 'take off' to 'climb'. Because the pilot is expecting the nose to get heavier when the power goes down, MCAS adjusts the trim to give the 737Max's nose the extra weight that the pilot is expecting. The pilot pulls up the nose to the desired climb rate, dials the stabilizer trim to keep the nose at that angle, and selects the autopilot. The events of the stricken aircraft: There is a pre-existing error condition that the MCAS is champing at the bit to respond to, but the configuration of the controls is blocking the MCAS. The flaps are fully retracted, but the autopilot has yet to be engaged, so the MCAS is given the authority to adjust the horizontal stabilizer trim, which it immediately proceeds to do. The pilots are not fully informed of when MCAS intervenes, so no alarm bells are ringing in the pilot's head (although other alarms are ringing in the cockpit). If the pilot reduces engine power, the next MCAS trim adjustment will be confused for a normal trim adjustment. The third MCAS trim adjustment to avoid a stall that is not actually happening finally gets the attention of the pilots, if the second intervention was missed by them. If the pilots were fully aware of the MCAS, the fact that the trim adjustment came before the pilot adjusted the throttle should have been a warning sign. The crashes of those two airliners may have been caused by the laws of unintended consequences. Before we can assign culpability for these crashes to Boeing, we need to know the answer to the following question: We know that the actions of the pilots, as applied to the 737Max aircraft that they were flying, did not prevent either crash. However, if the actions of the pilots were applied to a 737 that found itself in the exact same situation (ignoring why a 737 could have that much uncommanded nose down trim adjustment), would the 737 crash?

@@suprememax4948 The Lion air MAX 8 went to the maintenance twice before the crash and they don't change the AOA sensor (who cost about $4k) they only reset the system. The pilots got control of the plane when they put it in landing configuration (because the MCAS system only operate in flight configuration) but the (poorly trained) pilots back the plane to flight configuration and the MCAS start trimming again making them crashes. And one of the first things you learn in the flight school is: if you lose control of the plane and you set it up in a way you have the control, you don't change it anymore. The Boeing CEO needs Life In Prison and all others at Boeing who are responsible for the crash of the 2 737 Max aircraft’s . These were preventable accidents . ( This CEO earns $30 Million per year )

If you really had any idea how complex the world has become since computer processors have been embedded in most everything you would likely never get out of bed. Leaving the ground in a vehicle that moves pretty fast & weighs many tons has inherent dangers - but hey soon you can buy a ticket for a trip to space too. Tragedies are awful but they can never be totally avoided. Ask Kate Steinle (and a jury let that guy go!).
We, the flying public, can help to hopefully eliminate the future catastrophic problems that will exist with the Boeing 737 MAX Death aircraft by boycotting the airlines that will be using this aircraft in the future. The MCAS has to be eliminated from this aircraft, which, so far, still remains in the updated & recently FAA-approved flight control system of this aircraft...100% pure stupidity.
I would like to know how come every time something happens congress and the senate get involved in these things. These should be criminal cases. Not sound bites for politicians and never a criminal complaint.
Not negligence. Willful denial and coverup of planned and acceptable deaths. From the conception of the Max they knew these cost cutting designs were dangerous. Yet, they figured the profits out weighed the deaths. In this case, if this was a car, it's as if the left tire is smaller than the right tire and rather than building new right tires, Boeing installed software telling the car to compensate by steering to the left. So a few cars will crash. But the crashes were more frequent than expected.
I flew as a flight engineer crew chief in the United States Air force from 1954-1959 on a C-47 . This airplane had to be flown by a captain and all controls were cable so your input controlled all flight services manually ! Today's aircraft have taken the full control of the aircraft away from the flight crews today we have "Fly by wire' where electrical signals control the flight controls via electric signals and hydraulic boost. Look at all the accidents which have occurred because of this . The recent 737-maxs , the lost of rudder control on two 737's when the boost control jammed and sent the plane spiraling to the ground. All the computer malfunctions, I can go on and on but I believe there is too much electronics in the flight deck and built into the aircraft. What must be done is get back to basics , give the plane back to the pilot's get cable systems back into the aircraft. Till then we going to see more of these accidents. Question: During WWII our B=17's could fly with almost all of wins and stabilizers shot off and yet they survived. The aircraft were made out of aluminum not composite or plastic ! (My opinion) To the airlines and aircraft builders it's all money !
In 1980s I worked in quality control of Caterpillar and could see the quality of American manufacturing - poor, very poor. Profit is all what count. Greedy CEOs
Downsizing, disloyal, Boeing Co. became the perfect storm... Obama Admin.was not funding military contracts as before & wouldn’t give Boeing incentives, tax breaks.. Boeing kept cutting & downsizing it’s top engineers, outsourcing to Countries for much cheaper & less experienced design & software engineers. This tragedy, for the most part, was software program & one structure design failure. Only quick thinking, experienced pilots figured how to overcome the situation when in flight... sadly, the two less experienced pilots from developing countries did not. Horrific and unnecessary loss of lives. RIP🙏

So the airlines have much more fault in those accidents than Boeing, but we can't make a political fight about foreign airlines
Bring back the MAX!! Love it. Too bad some can’t figure out plane controls. My pilots can handle it.
why isnt the CEO fired?
How Muilenburg is not in jail???
The Boeing CEO needs Life In Prison and all others at Boeing who are responsible for the crash of the 2 737 Max aircraft’s . These were preventable accidents . ( This CEO earns $30 Million per year )
Wow what a grilling! watching from Jamaica
that CEO deserves serious jail time - like 10 years with an option for 10 more, depending upon whether or not he's going to admit to wrong doing - he looks like he's been spending too much time on the golf course. he's claiming incompetence, and then he's going 'offensive' on Cruz. but, if he's capable of doing that, then, he's capable of telling his subordinates to overlook safety issues, so that Boeing can maintain market-share over its chief rival, Airbus - you cannot tell me, that after the first MCAS accident, the 2nd one was just an accident too...the CEO would have to be really, really incompetent/i.e. Democrat; a ''people person'' who really doesn't care too much about people...
Democrats read the same message …….. RUSSIANS!!
You sir may be a prophet
😂
This is Trump's fault, impeach, he designed the planes.
@@Defy_Convention designed the planes? I saw him crash the planes himself! iMpEaCh!
Defy Convention is this sarcasm, if not, I’m just sad
Why hasn't Muilenburg been prosecuted? That is an indictment of both Boeing and FAA!
Boeing stock is 16% down since the March 2019 crash
oof
People lost lifes, that is only percentage
Watch the body language!!! When the CEO says he wants to dive deep into the situation he even shakes his head no. Body language is screaming guilt!!

Mr. Cruz has grown an exponential amount. I'm glad he represents my state. GOOD WILL PREVAIL.
Good luck with him!
You the man ted👍
Dennis makes over 100K dollars A DAY, 30 Million base salary a year.
Responsibility looks different. He should have been removed a long time ago when the grounding happend.
He is responsible. But poor Dennis won’t give any of his salary, no no no. Poor Dennis needs this amount of money in order to get over the fact his greed ruined the reputation of one of the greatest companies America had, and btw also killed 346 innocent people.
The CEO being disconnected with his employees is not uncommon ,sadly; these days.
Senator Ted Cruz is a master interrogator & the beard makes him look even more formidable!
deb deb this is a true Lion Ted!
B.s.. the more pissed he seems, the bigger his under the table payout from Boeing. These men in Congress should be given Oscars for their acting.. You know in the end they will end up doing nothing to Boeing and probably get paid by Boeing underneath the table. They're just doing a show to look pissed and concerned in front of the families and American public. In the end, NOTHING will happen to Boeing. Watch the Max put back in service in the coming weeks
He's grandstanding. Cruz is a bought politician just like the rest of them.

..........and that's how to keel-haul a CEO.
If it's a boeing, I ain't going.
Fine, stay home then. Boeing have an impeccable track record. Just like Airbus too. But please stay at home, I promise you, Boeing won't feel a single difference about your decision :)))
you should worry more about airline pilots making mistakes that students learn in the first week of flight school than the plane brand
@@hedegaard8 So serious. You identify as a 747 or what? I don't fly ever. If I do I'll make sure it isn't on one of these pos. Oh, and Boeing gonna feel the lawsuits of the victims I promise you.
Pilots said there were problems with this pos. Took people dying for them to address it. A fact they can not hide from. Money is more important than people's lives. Watch the senate hearing if you need more.
@@waynerenee3809 Wayne, you're the one that sounds so "serious". All worked up, riled and nowehere to go (since you won't fly) And speaking of which, since you dont ever fly, then why care? Wasted energy if you ask me, Boeing or any other airline company don't even know you exist - and probably for the better, I bet you're "that" guy standing in the que complaining about seats or delayed flights e.t.c. Lord have mercy.
Dennis Muilenburg for PRISON...
I don’t care what the FAA and Boeing say, I refuse (no pun intended) to get on one of those plans, now. Before the grounding I really wanted to fly on one. I wanted to fly on one because it was a new, beautiful plane, built by the most trustworthy aircraft manufacturer in history... but now, I don’t think anyone should trust Boeing’s MAX...
The compensation to the victims, and the punishment should be handed to the CEO ,and not the company
This CEO dismantled a working business model and squeezed every penny out of it for shareholders. Even assembly was surrendered to off the street laborers instead of the union.
He made millions, a huge 250K a mo retirrnent, but union assemblers take a cut in their $2K month pension.
And watch, he us not accountable, feels no shane, excuses, deflection.
Hes not the only one. FAA colluded, damn them all.
Then they ask the workers
"Senator I didn't see the details until recently."
"Muilenburg, how the hell did you not get this slapped on your desk immediately? How were your employees not bringing this to your attention immediately? How was your counsel not running into your office with these documents with their hair on fire?"
"Senator I didn't see the details until recently"
This is basically 6 minutes of Dennis Muilenburg dodging the question.
Look at our prison populations.
How many billionaires or even millionaires are there? Or those directly affiliated with the rich.
Power and money buys get out of jail cards. Boeing especially is Teflon.

I have not....tap tap tap - OUCH!
Typical corporation BS.
Criminal negligence... and should be prosecuted
Wow - Boeing shady. Not a fan of Ted Cruz but he was doing a good job here. Shame he couldn't have more time to ask questions.
I'm a fan of him he does stuff like this all the time now that he doesnt have eyes on the presidential office.
I would like to know how come every time something happens congress and the senate get involved in these things. These should be criminal cases. Not sound bites for politicians and never a criminal complaint.
2:58 Cruz leaves out a word in his 'quote' at the end . ''unknowingly''
Cruz does it a disservice by not quoting it properly.
Must have been painful for Ted!
Basically the end of Boeing. Period.
In 1980s I worked in quality control of Caterpillar and could see the quality of American manufacturing - poor, very poor. Profit is all what count. Greedy CEOs
Not ever criminals...we need a better way to penalize this.
C'mon Cruz, we all know that CEO doesn't get paid for that!

RIP🙏
