I love Tomb Kings and Necrons. The idea of these ancient races, who maintain honor and dignity above all else, even when their lives will continue without end, resonates with me. I see it as a hopeful race, who will do what is necessary to be moral. As for their game play, Tomb King's mechanic of limit armies and unit roster makes them a total late game power house. Necro techs allow you to reduce the high costs of buildings to nearly nothing, if you have like 3 mid level ones. So, you end up with hoards of tomb guards with archers. You can use their cavalry units, but the charge mechanic is busted, so tends to hurt you more then help you. The late game monsters, like the scorpion or sphinx, eat through chaff quickly, but have trouble with other monster units. By end game, you can have ten high power armies patrolling your ever expanding empire. About the only things I dislike about them, is their diplomacy. Fun fact- outriders are not 'dragoons' in the conventional sense. Dragoons in their 'classic' form are quick response infantry that ride to the location on horses then dismount and fight. Later on they became mounted riflemen as the conditions of war changed, and since we have no easily identifiable term other than "Mounted rifleman" to describe a cavalryman of that type it makes sense to say dragoon as you have here. Military cross-cultural terminology is pretty obnoxious. I love watching your videos and have so many things to say about them, especially after multiple rewatches(I fall asleep to youtube a lot, so it not being a 'new' video helps with that.) We should be friends.
While in 40k you'd have a point about chaos, in fantasy you cant be further from wrong. Your forgetting that Fantasy has Sigmar, Morr, etc, etc. And not to get too caught up in this, it's note worthy to point out that Fantasy was made first, then Rogue Trader, then 40k, all of which used to tie in via Amazons and the like, but it was dropped before it was killed more or less. (Orcs also used to be more like Orcs then Orks, and half-orc and half-elfs used to exist) Sigmar (Who also used to be rumored to be one of the 40k empires lost primarchs) is a force for good, and Ulric is a force for law and so on. Note Elf gods in fantasy are worthless and don't give their followers anything.
Well, the Elf Gods don’t give their followers anything for worshiping them because both the elves and their gods believe that they are sufficient enough on their own. It’s not really malicious, it’s more out of a strange sense of respect for their worshippers.
The Warriors of Chaos is not only badass mutant Viking warriors as in the Norse; they are also mutant Mongolians riding horses and alot of other tribes. Its not maybe abnormous amounts of lore surrounding them but their are well mentioned.
First deep look at the Total War game mechanics. It's Highlander. 1999. Tech up and manufacture your weapons, trade and diplomacy (I just rushed everything instead), and take over other provinces or influence them to join you. Battle was AI armies that you could also micromanage, all across Scotland and then south to London. Red Lemon studios for Eidos developer.
This vid got me into Total War Warhammer. Literally one of the few old school fantasy settings nowadays not corrupted by Dota/Warcraft aesthetics. It gaves me strong Heroes 3 vibes but the way i imagined them in my head when I was a kid. Thank you, Nester!
Great video! Although I'm a bit disappointed you didn't mention the Age of Empires series as part of the RTS genre spiel. Surely it's considered a cornerstone of the RTS genre as most of the games are still actively played today. Or was it just not as popular as I thought it was?
Age of Empires 1 was staggeringly good at the time of its release. Not all that innovative in mechanics, but streets ahead in presentation and historical feel. It still plays well today, including the Definitive edition, with its more aggressive AI.
I bet your friend that likes Beastmen is having a great time after their rework/buff and dlc. Taurox is especially strong, managed to finish his campaign in less than 80 turn.
Nope i reject this notion that Mortal Empires is a special game mode, Mortal Empires is simply the grand campaign that every Total War game has had. The Vortex campaign in my opinion was more comparable to DLC like Hannibal at the gates or Wrath of Sparta, CA simply removed the grand campaign and told us that if we wanted the full game experience then we need to own both 1 and 2. It's a shit money grubbing tactic that i absolutely despise.

Hey will you make an update about warhammer 3? Seems like they're adding a ton new content and factions (At least chaos dwarves, Kislev, and Cathay, possibly Ind and Nippon, Ogres probably too, and Chaos Gods)
Another aspect of Bretonnia's ending that always got me (going by memory): The Lady is actually just a highly powerful Wood Elf witch, and has been gaslighting knights and collecting Grail Knights to serve as angels/gate guards in their new Utopia they constructed in a pocket dimension. The Lady has been a lie the whole time and somehow her "power level" is ... that low (all deity-like inspirations considered).
I've now played Baldurs Gate 1 (and 2) and TWW2 for like 100 hours each because i was partially inspired by your videos, so cheers. I hated the rats so much I became the rats though.
It’s frankly a little amazing that a game with aggressive EVROPAEAN world-building (Slavia, THE MYSTERIOUS EAST, ancient astronaut reptiles in MayaIncaTec, Voodoo Dark Continent) managed to be launched in this day and age, to not just acceptance but downright celebration.
That’s largely because it isn’t a product of this day and age. Warhammer has been around since the late 80’s (if memory serves me). The reason why it hasn’t changed or been able to change is because it placates to the Nostalgia of those who played it as children and teenagers. Hence all the problematic aspects and stagnant storytelling. That’s what made the End Times so unique until they basically said “yeah, but it’s all fine in the end” with Age of Sigmar. Don’t get me wrong, I like Warhammer, I criticize it because I like it. I have a soft spot for edgy, grimdark/nobledark settings and stories. I never really grew out of my teenage edgelord phase, but I’ve thrown away my sense of nostalgia.
Chaos isn't good or bad, it's a force a nature and a reaction to living beings. You've said it yourself, Slaanesh is the god of pleasure, but he/she is also the god of pain, same shit with the other gods. Tzeentch is the god of schemes, but he is also a god of willpower and inteligence, even Khorne has a good side, being the god of courage and the honorable side of battle. At least, that's the lore in 40k, I don't know shit about Fantasy Warhammer.
Not really, your forgetting that Fantasy has Sigmar, Morr, etc, etc. And not to get too caught up in this, it's note worthy to point out that Fantasy was made first, then Rogue Trader, then 40k, all of which used to tie in via Amazons and the like, but it was dropped before it was killed more or less. Note Elf gods in fantasy are worthless and don't give their followers anything.
1:12 Ahhhh Warcraft Adventures. Not getting Peter Cullen back for Doomhammer in the Warcraft Movie was a damn shame. ORCTIMUS PRIME was too amazing an idea to die in a cancelled game. Fun fact even into like 2009 or so I overheard 2 of the jocks at a high school talking about Warcraft 3. It was surreal.
It's funny how it's the Warhammer ones have changed your mind about the whole franchise, whereas by long-term fans, they are considered to be amongst the worst and shallowest gameplay-wise.
40k can work but not by CA and it wpuld somehow have to work like 2or 3 different engines. Total War for the campaign and large battles, battlefleet gothic for space "naval" battles and optionally something like DoW 2 or MoWAS 2 for smaller scale stuff.
2:55 Could anyone tell me the name of this game? It looks like a Russian-sided version of a game I played (can't remember the game) where you have an army in America and are repelling a Russian invasion after they began a war in Europe too.
The soulstorm campaign, sets a total war esque precedent. I don't think would be an exact copy of the total war formula, but definitely share some roots, and ideas.
Don't know why the algorithm popped this one up now, but there used to be some lore about the beastmen/women question and it got retconned out to be more family-friendly
Interesting to see another guy that doesn’t like Skaven. I agree completely with your issues with them. Of all the races they definitely fit in the least with their almost WWI aesthetic and no culture to speak of. They come off as more of an rts faction than a society, while many of the other races like dwarves, empire, and orcs feel the opposite.
I hate the Skaven because they act nothing like rats actually do. You could chalk that up to Chaos corruption but I would say that Chaos does not fundamentally change your nature, just exposes the part of you that keep hidden away from everyone, even yourself.
What was the "Stonebreaker clan miners" RoR unit? Is that from a mod? Or a localization? For me and most people ive seen they're Ekrund's miners. Tried looking it up but got minimal information, so I appeal to you, my non-descript slav god of trivia. Please, do tell?

The Lady has been a lie the whole time and somehow her "power level" is ... that low (all deity-like inspirations considered).
I've now played Baldurs Gate 1 (and 2) and TWW2 for like 100 hours each because i was partially inspired by your videos, so cheers. I hated the rats so much I became the rats though.
You know Malekith is cool because like all cool guys he lives with his mom.
Amazing video dude. So funny and informational. But took like 2 breakfasts to finish it lmao
I removed like 10 minutes of stuff from the video and it's still way too long.
Great video!
They're probably one an the same. They were both created by the Old ones after all.
The sign for kohrne is considered a blessing in the dwarfholds, means that honorable battle will soon come.
(Orcs also used to be more like Orcs then Orks, and half-orc and half-elfs used to exist)
Sigmar (Who also used to be rumored to be one of the 40k empires lost primarchs) is a force for good, and Ulric is a force for law and so on. Note Elf gods in fantasy are worthless and don't give their followers anything.
Uhhh I’m pretty sure Tzeentach is actually the god of autism
@@Bassist-Beneath Tzeentch is actually just next on the list for Great Horned Rat.
Great video
how have you not blown up yet!
What's the game after homeworld? I remember playing it on the past but I really don't remember the name
Saddest part of endtimes is the death of poor innocent Gobbler, poor kawai Gobbla'
I keep blinking when I see Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer 😂
Such a great video but what happened to pigbarter, what was their fate? How did you skip em at the end?!
It's funny how it's the Warhammer ones have changed your mind about the whole franchise, whereas by long-term fans, they are considered to be amongst the worst and shallowest gameplay-wise.
Only the first one afaik which is not wrong.
40k can work but not by CA and it wpuld somehow have to work like 2or 3 different engines. Total War for the campaign and large battles, battlefleet gothic for space "naval" battles and optionally something like DoW 2 or MoWAS 2 for smaller scale stuff.
Warlock: **Describes the High Elves**
Me: Ah, that's all true, but! There's this ONE guy-
Warlock: 41:57
22:55 I think there was a limited Citadel miniature of this unit that is...uh, I can only call it a demon ass-cannon.
2:55 Could anyone tell me the name of this game? It looks like a Russian-sided version of a game I played (can't remember the game) where you have an army in America and are repelling a Russian invasion after they began a war in Europe too.
it's World in Conflict: www.gog.com/game/world_in_conflict_complete_edition
Oh jesus. That feeling, when you realize you've become an Ancient One and your ways are absurd. oh lawwwwwwwwd. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Skaven is the only faction that matters
The soulstorm campaign, sets a total war esque precedent. I don't think would be an exact copy of the total war formula, but definitely share some roots, and ideas.
Yeah, but sadly that campaign is extremely bland and lore-wise it's a clusterfluck
Don't know why the algorithm popped this one up now, but there used to be some lore about the beastmen/women question and it got retconned out to be more family-friendly
markus wolfhart is a cool dude on a just mission save imperial settlers from the hordes of dinosaurs attacking for no apparent reason
That's probably because they don't exist.
I hate the Skaven because they act nothing like rats actually do. You could chalk that up to Chaos corruption but I would say that Chaos does not fundamentally change your nature, just exposes the part of you that keep hidden away from everyone, even yourself.
"Did you know there are Chaos gods of law and order?"
How in the name of fuck does that work?
...it's a mess: 1d4chan.org/wiki/Chaos_Gods_of_Law
What was the "Stonebreaker clan miners" RoR unit? Is that from a mod? Or a localization?
For me and most people ive seen they're Ekrund's miners. Tried looking it up but got minimal information, so I appeal to you, my non-descript slav god of trivia. Please, do tell?
Almost certainly something from the SFO mod, but I'm not 100% on this.
The gall to call beastmen rapists while playing as Sigvald, lmao
My Sig is INNOCENT
45:51 Where is this scene from?
Homeworld 2
@@Warlockracy Oh I mean the huge punch in the face not the space game.
Nice
