I knew someone would think that it was Dana Carvey, but I was actually thinking of David Spade, like back in the 80's and early 90's when he was much skinnier and had that mustache, and every character he played was either a weird villain or an annoying clerk at a video store or something, and his eyes were bigger and more pronounced..... Yeah, I am pretty sure it was David Spade.
I've recently recorded a singer that I've put in the live room, singing in a SM57 plugged into a Memory Boy into a distorted Hot Rod to get some angry psychedelic echoes. Worked amazingly great and the singer loved it. Also recorded two takes each time so we could pan them L-R, real psychedelic stuff. :)
I have several Playlists with nothing but creative sound lab. I like to get stoned and binge watch them. This is by far the greatest TH-cam channel featuring tips on recording. I can't begin to explain how much these videos helped me. They also taught me to think outside of the box more.
I like the idea of using guitar pedals for vocal effects because I am too cheap to buy expensive plug-ins, tbh. McTear is business smart, too. He’s right in stating that plug-ins have no resale value compared to demand for pedals.
And they don't eventually stop working when the manufacturer stops supporting an old version. You buy a plugin and you're pretty much obligated to buying upgrades from that point forward. Pedals aren't that way. They work forever (or until something breaks... but look at our collection. Much of what's there is older than Matt Poirier!
Savoir Faire having limitations breeds creativity and plus you won't sound like everyone else. If it sounds good then it doesn't matter. You have any recordings?

I’ve noticed from a lot of live limp bizkit performances from the early 00’s that Fred would hit something like a reverb pedal before belting screams and it gave such neat color to it. It’s flairs & accents like that people miss about bizkit.
Brian is amazing. I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop at Miner Street earlier this year, and I learned more from him in one day than I have in years on my own. It's so cool to see you teaming up with him on your content.
The reason old pedals aren't used as outboard equipment for vocals is they are analog-noisy, especially at the high end. You are using them at the limit of acceptable noise, by essentially low pass filtering and keeping the volume down. The (digital) Empress by Zoia can concatenate such effects w/o the noise issue.
You're unique. I hardly see good videos about using guitar pedals as outboard FX. I have a lot of pedals, and hope to incorporate them in to my own music. I like your enthusiasm. You where clearly enjoying taking it all in. As well as just being yourself, and not getting animated for the camera. I hope to see more in the future!

The real miracle? Vintage Deluxe Memory Man, Poly Chorus and a Mu-Tron Phasor and they all work correctly. That is *TRULY* a miracle. I bought SOOOO many Poly Chorus/Echo Flangers and not a one worked right. I finally gave up.

This is great! I’ve watched a bunch of the tracking and mixing day Weathervane videos and I’ve always loved their approach to reverbs. Re: pedals, I have an old Boss Blues Driver I modded that’s the most amazing mono drum crush effect I’ve ever heard. And I have no recollection of what mods I did! I also love putting it after a TC Hall of Fame + MXR Micro Chorus for crazy distorted swishy reverbs. So many possibilities with pedals! Thanks for the vid :)
I remember the red dynacomp sounded amazing with a mono drum overhead. I know Brian is building a rack that will just be a mutlilevel pedal table for tinkering with sounds.

Is there a way to connect a shure sm58 to a regular guitar pedal and add effects? I bought a low z to high z adaptor, but there is still a lot of feedback when I try to record. I am quickly learning that I will actually need a preamp from the mic then to the low to high z adaptor. Should I get a di box from the pedal to the tascam dr40x that I am recording onto? The recorder does have an xlr/1/4" combo jack, but I am trying to make sure I have the signals correct to reduce as much buzz as possible.
Is there a way to use a guitar amp and hook up a mic and record the amp into an interface and use its tube sounds to fatten up the vocal performance as you record? Tascam BR-20. That's our stereo tape delay machine... at least that's all we use it for. Delays and tape flange. That's one of 5 or so tape machines we have. I love tape machines!
Yeah, you can always experiment and see if doing directly in via an out on your interface would work. But using a reamp box to go out, and then a DI to go back in, is technically the "Right " way to do it. If it's a messed up crazy effect, then it might not matter.
Great video! This is actually what I'm planning to do this week. I've got a question on the signal side of this: would you need a re-amp box if you don't use an (guitar) amp? For example, live engineers use guitar pedals a lot of the time and they would go: aux out (after pre amp) in to the pedal and then back into a line input. The same could be done with an audio interface. Could pedals get damaged if you feed them a signal that's too hot? BTW: awesome song!!

Tonkazable Yes, my Band personally does this but we use a box that takes the XLR signal coverts it to quarter inch then converts it back to XLR so its balanced before it hits the board. I use an EHX attack decay clone, a Boss DM-2 and a Homemade Spring Reverb on mine personally Plus a T.C Helicon Distortion to emulate a megaphone
I guess it's impossible to have this type of setup in a live performance setting.....these I guess we're designed specifically for recording purposes....

But he should of left the last part out cuz i can do this with free plugins on a free daw that no i couldn't sell in 5 years cuz i didn't buy them in the first place. However i can sell the way i engineering i learned in the box to somebody in 5 years.
It's a difference in the philosophy and priority of production. I'm willing to go the extra mile for better sound or at least try it for the tracks that matter in a mix to see if it's better. Most times that something is easier to do, it also means it is not better in sound.

Yep... running a pedal effect twice breaks the center image for a clearer, less dense effect and stereo image. Good intuition!

I can get this effect with free vsts in audacity.

How do you do it? I want to use my guitar pedals as well but don't know how to plug them to my interface in order to use it with my tracks.

I prefer effects to be based on the actual instrument rather than import an effect. They sit more naturally in the music than does a sample.
