Katie is so amazing always knowing what we’re all wondering and thinking about. I guess basically it’s the news of the day, but still, she talks about it. I appreciate her for doing so!
It's Greedy Corporate America & overpaid CEO's & Executives who reap all the rewards. (Again & again, no matter what industry!) Labor in America gets screwed over again. It's a sad state.
Thanks, Katie. I just learned a lot! I heard about the strike, possibly happening from Seth Meyer at the very end of his show two night‘s ago, so sadly, I was not surprised when he the late night shows were gone the next night. The big question is why do all these multi million dollar companies not want to pay the people who are doing the actual work and made the company actually a multi million dollar company?!! And, that is I n every industry. I think it’s only gotten worse over the years. Many years ago in probably the 1990s factory my husband worked at had a really good year and they gave everyone at the end of the year a decent bonus that they were not at all expecting! Those people did it because they knew who made the factory run so well that year and they let them know through money that they appreciated all your hard work. It seems that doesn’t happen anymore so much, at least I don’t think it does with these great big, huge companies. They’re just happy we have a low minimum wage.😢🫤 Anyway, as always Katie, thanks for the great content!❤❤❤✌🏻
Because we, in the US, don't value people in that way. We don't vote for social support programs. We don't laugh the money grubbers out of the room. We are complicit, as voters, in making this people-marginalizing economic system.
Thanks Katie Couric! This was so informative. Im new in the business as an Actor. I am Sag-E. When I booked my first Costar role I met the writers on the set of Chicago PD. I was shocked that I heard how much they are getting paid. As you know, they revise the script multiple times before filming. They should get the pay that they deserve. Yes, those streaming channels are making millions. I stand with WGA.
the powers that be should give writers everything they ask for. the last strike led to a plethora of unscripted shows. i'm still traumatized by the likes of honey boo boo
Well, my dream job is crushed... wanted to be a screenwriter since I could write at the age of 3. I'm genuinely sad knowing that if I work my tail off to join WGA, I would be working hard for a gig job. I wouldn't matter. I wouldn't be paid fairly. I would be tossed for scraps... dreams crushed... time for a career change 😔
Composers have it so much worse, I give no f’s about these writers. They are biting the hand that feeds them. They are complaining that their job will become what my job has been for 25 years and there has been no support for me.
I hope the writers hold fast, there are no shows without them! I stand with them, I’ll watch all the things I’ve missed while they strike. The corporate guys will have to fold soon!
Thanks for explaining so well. I feel writers are the least appreciated of production yet they have the spark of genius! I hope it can be resolved with respect from the billionaires.
Can WGA incorporate in Guam; set the standards of equitable future return on investment for the new WGG members? The WGA should take the initiative and transfer their entire membership to a new legal entity, instead of starving their members while mega corps can afford to let it drag out until members vote to end the strike.
If we don’t join together and unionize, then you basically have no power to negotiate and this is capitalism. Winner takes all. Which leaves the majority of workers with no leverage. Not a good recipe for a civil society. We must find a balance between individual achievements and the greater good.
Under these new union laws, you have to have a MINIMUM of five writers for ANY tv show, movie, etc. Tv shows with over 13 episodes require a minimum of TEN writers. How does this make any sense…. If writing is such a hard job to land, perhaps we need to quit having new writers for every tv episode we watch??
There are two sides and here we have the “baddies” ie corporation and the “angels” ie the writers. Very simplistic. The fact is there was a survey on cable where seniors were asked about DeSantis and Disney and many sided with DeSantis even though he is wrong. Amazon Prime and Disney and Hulu and Paramount + and so on have a lot of back content and the public has a lot of entertainment options so it would be wise to settle the strike winning a few concessions and not be out long.
I support fair wages and unions. But I can not agree with this. In any other occupation, you only get paid for the work that needs done. If you only have one writing job in two years then get a different second job just like most actors or musicians. Most of the jobs people did 30 years ago are gone. And many of today’s jobs will be gone thirty years from now.
You need to make this make sense. If your product makes a company a substantial amount of money, they should pay fairly for the product. That’s the point. Example : if my product makes you $500. And you pay me $15. That’s a disconnect and I need to address it.
@@deloresmatt8643 yes, 25 years composing music for television. Netflix makes us give them all ascap. Do you support composers and all the other people you’re union is screwing over? You can cling to the old model but let me tell you from experience, you already lost.

This was so interesting and informative. Writers are the backbone of good shows! They deserve to be properly compensated.
Simply amazing... The origin of every success in Hollywood is the story, and therefore, the person who writes it...
Always enjoy Katie’s interviews. She’s so honest, knowledgeable and such a genuinely good person!
Thanks Katie, I don’t have a big following in any social media account but without writers what do you have? We should all support there cause!
Gosh - labor is marginalized, viscerally effective presentation of concerns. Kudos for a good discussion.
Omg.thanks Katie for this! I was just thinking to myself that I didn't get this whole writers' strike

Thanks for shedding light on the current writer's strike situation. Also it's so cool that Katie's daughter is a writer on The Boys!
Go get that money, writers!

Excellent and so informative. Thanks, Katie and Chris.
The script is so important to my enjoyment. Even a great actor cannot rescue a bad script.
It’s everything for me.
Thanks again, Katie for another conversation on a relevant and important issue. Keep them coming!

How’d that turn out in 2023? Bye bye writers

Judging how crappy the movies and tv shows have been, the woke writers have been on strike for years!!!

Writers only care about themselves. They don’t care about the crew or anyone else. They should be fired and replaced.

Strikes are due unfortunately - anyone below millionaire salary are getting squeezed mightily. It’s happening in the health service in the uk,
Do you two know Netflix has been demanding it’s composers give all ascap to them? Do the writers care? No
Get jobs at Starbucks “writers”
If consumers continue to buy movie tickets and subscribe to streaming services, is that the same thing as crossing the picket line?
