My parents had a 1979 Collectors Series painted midnight blue with velour interior. I was four years old when they got it. I would use the rear fold down armrest as a booster seat so I could look out. This were the days before seat belt laws. Such a nice riding car.
Such a gigantic metal road monster back in it's day. My issue with it is it had it's size in the wrong places. it needed bigger cabin space and less trunk space.
Really? I had one and found that it had TONS of cabin space and I'm 6'1". In fact, I have a 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood and I barely fit in that despite it being 19 1/2 feet long. There is just no leg room in the front especially compared to my '79 Lincoln that I had.
I think the velour was SO much nicer in these cars. I had one too, only not the collectors series. To me, back then, the leather just felt cheap. Plus there were no heated or ventilated seats back then.
$11K? New? I paid $10K for a 1980 Cougar XR-7!!! I should have walked over to the left over ‘79 town Coupes. Damn!! I know the NEW 1980 prices went through the roof over $20K on the Mark VI models and about $15K Sedans.
More like $49,800 in today's dollars. This model had every available option and it was STILL cheaper than a fully loaded Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance. That would run you about $16,000 in 1979 which would be around $72,500 in today's dollars.
My wife's grandpa had an old Continental just like that. It was fun to drive!

Very cool car.
The radio does not have a clock. The display is to show the radio station being tuned in.

FYI $11,000 in 1979 equates to $47,675 in 2024
