I love this mug. I picked it up from Best Buy, (deal of the day) at over 50% off. One thing I had to get used to was, in a typical mug, the last few sips of coffee are usually cold. But that is not the case with the Ember mug, I had to remember to drink those last few sips like the first.
I actually found my Ember at a thrift store. I spent a whopping $2 on it. But all that came was the mug, coaster, and cord. However, I did like the way it kept my coffee hot. It led me to finding a video that would tell me more about this mug. Can I just say, I love this mug! Best $2 I ever spent!
It’s perfect for slow coffee sippers that’s tethered to their desk for work. The charging coaster keeps it warm for the entire day. Though you don’t want to leave the same coffee in there for more than a few hours as it starts to reduce into “espresso”. I waste lot less coffee after getting this mug.
They've already got knock off ones at walmart for 40 bucks. I've got one, and it works pretty well. Although it doesn't hold a charge for over 45 minutes.
I received one as a gift. I’ve been using it 3 days now and every time I take a sip of my coffee I’m pleasantly surprised how it’s the perfect temperature every time. I LOVE it. That said, I would never spend this $$ or be able to justify spending it on a coffee mug for myself. The only other con is it could be a little larger. It’s a perfect gift for the coffee/tea lover who has everything. I’m thrilled to have one😊
After 2 months, I actually don’t want to ever live without it.. I had coffee outside of home and now I’m spoiled. It was NOT enjoyable. Every sip all I could think was how much better it would be in my cup. This cup is life changing! Lol It’s the little things….😊
The charging coaster not being waterproof is a big deal. When I drink I sometimes leave a little drop on the outside of the mug which runs down the side. Due to an old lip injury.
It does seem rather lavish so I highly doubt it's for average consumers, the price does bump it up to be for tech centred people so it can got their style of life, for non tech people, an insulated mug will be just as fine. It's more so a total gimmick, a cool one at that, it showcases what's in store for the future! Amazing video, James!~
That little cinematic section was awesome. I've been watching for a while and it's super cool to see you grow as a content creator. Keep up the amazing videos!
My wife bought me one of these for Christmas. I love it. Have never downloaded the app or connected to Bluetooth, I just use it. Every morning. Keeps my coffee hot for a long time. It's brilliant.
Hydro flask mug lids fit on the ember mug. This buys you up to 50% more battery life. They really should come with a lid standard for the price. It's also insulated so if you take it on a 3+ day camping trip you can have an electric mug the first morning and still have a decent insulated mug the next mornings.
I'm looking on Amazon at the lids, and the press in hydroflask mug ones come in 3 sizes without measurements or info other than "small, medium, large." Do you have advice on which size to get?
@@noelgraff2012it looks like the lids for the Ember mug are cheaper at some places. I just figured out the original mug is the original 10 oz and I found one on Amazon for 12 bucks. I just bought my neighbor's used one at her yard sale and I'm going to make sure it works before I commit to the lid but I'm definitely getting a lid for it if it works. All the reviews say it doubles or triples the efficiency therefore also far increasing life expectancy of the battery
@NoZenith I'm wondering what size hydroflask lid though because there are many sizes. A link would be helpful for my standard size ember white mug gen 1, think that's the 10 oz one.
I’ve never been this early, and it’s a product I was actually considering buying when it was on sale. I think if it goes on sale I might consider it but at $125 i don’t think so. They already make some nice desk heaters for cups at around 15 bucks on Amazon. The one I have on my work desk works just fine so I’m not needing a replacement yet unless it goes down in price.
Those desk ones work great if you’re sitting at a desk. 🤷🏼♀️ Off you are in the move with your code the Ember is perfect for people who hate warm or cold coffee.
Yea. I saw people complaining it takes too long to heat water and i wanted to shout at them And it does so while keeping the outside cool and without leaking heat everywhere
Yep! Specific heat for water, or the amount of energy to raise a given mass of water by 1deg Kelvin is 4.186 kJ/kg•K. Quite a bit higher than say aluminum which is around 0.9… Quite a bit lower. Im actually impressed they were able to fit a battery small enough in there with that much energy capacity to heat liquids up for ~80 minutes, especially considering energy conversion losses.
I gotta say I’m just really impressed with this guy, I like how He just hopped right into it he doesn’t waste your time but at the same time there’s so much information and research and data presented. Happy sub

Really? He just compared a $130 mug to a porcelain mug. The best reviewer on TH-cam would have compared it to something that's actually comparable. If you take an hour to drink a cup of coffee you would buy a vacuum insulated mug, that would be a good comparison.
My husband bought me an Ember for Christmas- I didn't ask for it and was a little ticked that he bought something so expensive. That being said, I freaking love it and use it daily. I am a coffee sipper and sip mine over about three hours. It is a pure luxury but so much better than reheating every 15 minutes for three hours! I take it with me when I travel- I love it that much!
I drink my coffee black, and it just doesn't taste good if it's not piping hot. I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy it for that reason, but I'd never spend that much money lol. Glad you're enjoying your gift!

I think the greatest invention would be a "Reverse Microwave" - a microwave that can cool your food the same way it warms it. Sometimes I cook stuff a little too long and think "If only I could undo 20 seconds."
I got one as a gift and it is great. I love using it, but I definitely would not have bought one for myself. I’ve had it for about a year and a half using it almost daily and it is still kicking like the day I got it.
The price really is the killer with this item. Most reviews I have seen indicate it does function pretty much as promised and many who get it love it. But for me that price is too much. If it came in around $50 I might be tempted but as it is I will just make sure I finish my drink before it has gotten too cool, which for me is most times anyway.
You are a bit wrong. Most of the people that got the Ember said that 1 charge don’t last 81 min. like the instructions are saying. Also they lie about the ml liquid capacity. Like everything “made in China
I ❤ my Ember mug!!! My husband bought it for me in March of 2020. Have used it daily ever since. I did find that the battery doesn't last the full 80 min if you have the temp set for 145°. Lowering the temp. helps. I'm very happy with it, have been for over a year now! Enjoy! ☕

Yeah that's what I don't get about this. Like why not just buy an insulated mug for a fraction of the price, that will also keep your drink warmer (or cooler) for longer?
Love my Ember. I am a sipper first thing in the morning. I get sidetracked easily plus I get busy babysitting my grandson, I don’t need to reheat my coffee over and over with this mug. I purchased it on sale so that’s a plus.
James Hoffman did a decent job convincing me that this a decent product. However, I remain unconvinced that it's that much better than just using an insulated coffee mug. (Note: Hoffman's review complained about the size, but James White avoided this issue by buying the expensive 14oz version).
@@maireadnic8280 I feel like the two reviews offer very different, equally valuable perspectives. Hoffman focused on the user experience of owning the mug, whereas White focused on the functionality of the mug. It will be very interesting to see White's 1 Year follow-up on this mug.
@@rodmunch69 As this video showed, the Ember mug is awful at heating liquid from room temperature. But if you already have the ability to get liquid to your desired temperature, putting it in a well-insulated mug gives similar results to relying on an ember mug.
As a three year owner of several Embers I think there is a learning curve with the Ember. The newest one I bought several months ago at Costco for $99. Worth every penny in my opinion. As for how long the battery lasts I don't know. I spend about a hour every morning drinking coffee and it retains the heat to my preset temp of 138F for the entire time. I set the cup back on the charger and it takes about an hour to charge it back to 100%. I have had a few problems but were quickly and professionally take care of by Embers Customer Service. It's not perfect but to function as stated as long as I have owned the mugs it's nothing short of a miracle considering the electronics and the engineering that went into the design.
We bought our amber here in Canada at Costco as a birthday gift to my partner and it as a HIT. so far the amber gets used on daily basis and he loves it. I have to admit though, that he would have not bought this for himself, but as a gift, he loves it and uses it on daily basis for the last year. It’s well made and has remained in great shape since we bought it. Definitely a must have for coffee lovers.
I'd like to see the long term review of this because the only thing that stopped me from buying it was the durability of it. Many on Amazon reviews stated that there were scaling issues on the inside.
Really love the way you didn't just cut to the morning and continue the review....you did a little morning sun shots with the dog:) nicely done my friend! Thanks for such great reviews
I was considering the ember mug but decided against it because the regular coffee warmers can be used with most mugs you have, rather than being confined to just one. Some of them have pressure sensors that turn off the heat when you lift the mug. It was a real life saver during work at home last winter.
I have this mug and it’s not designed to heat your coffee up. Most coffee after it’s brewed is at around 150° and it cools down to your temp in the mug. Heating up the liquid would definitely reduce the battery life since it’s working so hard to heat the coffee up. Also, the paint chipping complaint was about the previous model. Same with battery complaint. (I did crazy research when I bought mine. From a coffee snob perspective, it taste better over time than other ways of heating as well. I do think the mug is alittle over priced though. I’d feel better about it. As for the cheaper heated pad, it heats the cup too aggressively. Tastes worse.
Definitely an interesting product.. as someone that works in a contact center it can sometimes take me an hour to get through my coffee so this would be a perfect product for that, but i just cannot justify the price... If they halved it or better I would be seriously tempted.
I'd love to see you review a Temperfect Mug. It was originally a kickstarter and I love their product. It keeps a beverage at perfect temp for hours with no electricity/charging. It uses the starting temperature of the beverage to store the heat and replace it as it cools.
Probably won’t happen. These have already been out several years. And were even sold at Starbucks for awhile. The price hasn’t fluctuated besides the smaller one costing less and the copper one being even pricier.
I love my ember fancy coffee cup. Its supid expensive but I love nursing a cup of coffee slowly on the weekends and always having my coffee at the perfect temp is fantastic. I haven't had battery issues. lasts 2-3 uses before i have to recharge
Because I like my coffee at room temperature, the battery in my pottery mug lasts for ages. In fact, I don't think I've ever had to recharge it. I would consider changing to Ember though if that can achieve the same results, because I like the color and the name. I can say 'Where's my Ember?' instead of 'Where's my mug?' My cats would probably find that funny and/or confusing.
I have an ember cup and I liked it for a while. I never had the coating come off but I only used plastic and wood stirs in the mug. The only issue I have had is the contacts on the bottom, they eventually lose the ability to charge the mug so you have to repair it. Otherwise it actually works as advertised.
I wanted to hate it, but I got one for Christmas and it's pretty awesome. I mean it's easy enough to imagine how it works and roll your eyes, but actually living with it is a pretty nice experience. But yeah, this thing needs to be like $80 instead of $130. Cool gift to gift to give someone who'd never buy one for themselves, but I'd feel ridiculous buying it for myself.
I bought one of these mugs, as well as one of their travel mugs, for my husband and he LOVES that they keep his coffee warm! The only downside we've found is that the lid for the travel mug has a weak point and breaks after like 3-4 months. We've had it replaced - great customer service! - and also bought a replacement. I think he's gone through 4 lids in a year'ish, that's not a good design. The cup is usually on the charger, so no comment on how long it takes to run down.
Think it’s not good to have the fully charged mug on the plug. It’s like u are trying to over charge something that is already charged and the battery life gets damage.
Some people like their coffe at a specific consistent temp. The app exists to keep that temp Its really as simple as that. Its an expensive product sure, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. If you don't want that its useless to you. If you do want that, its not
This is the best review I've seen of the ember mug... and I looked at a lot of reviews a year ago... This one convinced me and it was for sale for a 100 bucks!
I got this for during online classes this year and it was helpful, but it was the best thing when I (possibly have ADHD) set down my coffee and got sidetracked with the kids etc in the mornings. I HATE finally getting back to my mug and it being room temp coffee and I pick this up and it's just as hot as when I brewed it. This was my indulgent purchase and I'm happy with it.
I think this is more for getting the temp right than keeping it hot. We have thermos's. This solved my problem though. I cannot drink the coffee out of any machine. Coffee maker, Keurigg. Any of it. Always way too hot. So I have to put ice in it. Which means when I taste it one of two things happen. Its too hot still and I burn my tongue and can't taste a thing for hours. Or. Its too cold and I have to microwave it. Then 50% of the time, you repeat that same problem after. This? Solves those problems. AND has the same benefit of a thermos. Its a bit expensive. But once these can cool down coffee to the temp you want. It would be worth it just for the lack of hassle every morning
Got this as a gift and hands down one of best gifts ever to a coffee drinker. Before by time I get back to my coffee it needed to be reheated in microwave and that always takes away from taste. With the Ember its just perfect 20 mins later and lasts atleast 60 minutes.
You reviewed something which I have been using daily for over 18 months. And it is seriously one of my “gadgets” that I use everyday. Which I didn’t expect. I agree on the price but I splurge money on “gadgets” anyhow 😉 As I like to drink tea in the morning at 50C (122F), the Ember is perfect as it is a warmer which you explained very well. So the Ember tells me when my tea has cooled enough (which is very important to me) as I don’t like piping hot tea. I do like a hot espresso or two after my tea so the Ember isn’t really of benefit there. Something that avoids me getting my tongue burned, is also a huge pro. Although it is pricey, I would recommend the Ember because for me it has become a very useful “gadget”.
I on a whim purchased this for my mum on her birthday, who likes to drink her tea upstairs but sometimes forgets about it. I used it one night and oh my god, after that I used it 5 nights in a row then my mum uses it in the morning. It was the best purchase I've done withuout ever looking it up. I knew it was exactly what we needed. It's a mug that you know, if you will find it useful or not. If you think its pointless then its not for you. But if youre someone who forgets their tea, or has the kitchen downstairs and drinks it upstairs. like your tea staying at a certain temperature/drink too slow. then its worth it. I am absolutely mind blown with it and wished i had it for the winter! Every sip up until the last even after an hour you make it, is like the first sip of tea. blissful I went and bought myself the bigger mug for my own birthday ahaha
A vacuum insulated mug would require a lid to prevent heat loss from surface to air contact. Although I have insulated mugs of different sizes, I find that I only use them when I travel. I prefer to drink my coffee without a lid. There is something about the smell of the coffee before you take your sip that makes it more enjoyable. You get that with a heated mug an hour later. Not with my Yeti.
@@brucecoleman7412 Indeed that's true. I hadn't even considered the inability to smell the coffee with a sealed mug. Sadly I don't experience much of a difference due to my impaired ability to smell.
I'd love to see a comparison to a vacuum insulated mug or even a ceramic travel mug. Those can keep drinks hot for hours for a fraction of the price. I guess the only advantage the Ember would have is being able to raise the temperature slightly, but is that really worth $100+ extra?
Open mugs bleed temperature like crazy and the temp gradually falls, while this keeps it at a consistent temp Think of someone who wants the temp at a specific point consistently. Thats who this is for. Coffe enthusiasts who are already dedicated to coffee as a hobby and particular people with money to spare
@@DimT670 Plenty of coffee mugs have a cover that has only a tiny sipping hole when you lift it. Those barely bleed temperature even when they're open. Personally, I prefer them.
James Hoffmann did a video on the Ember a while back - it made an appearance in another video recently and was still working just fine. It's one of those things that's conceptually so simple that there really isn't much to go wrong on it in the first place. It's for sure overpriced, but it at least seems well-built.
I put this one my Amazon wishlist back around my birthday and my SIL actually bought it for me having no idea what it was. It has been my new favorite thing ever. I use it everyday. To extend life of the battery I don't use the app. Having hot coffee for 2 hours every morning is like a luxury I never knew I needed.
Honestly they’re worth it. Decided to splurge on one as a birthday gift to myself and it is, to use some hyperbole, life changing. The ability to pour myself a cup of coffee when starting work, go into a meeting for 2 hours, forget about the coffee pick it back up and have it just as hot as when I poured it is amazing. I drink my coffee with cream and the coffee is already cool by the time I pour it because of it, but this makes that a nonissue as well. I wish it was cheaper but I’m very happy with it.
I agree with all the comments and I have want to add. After a few months mine would not heat up anymore. It turned out to be--one of the pins was depressed and not making contact with the mug. They sent me a complete new mug and plate at no charge. Very impressed but I guess they can afford that because of the initial expensive cost. My second mug did the exact same thing. Maybe the weight of the mug has something to do with it. I decided to go to Walmart and try out there $40 model and two months into it… Working just fine.
My wife received this as a gift 8 months ago and I promptly stole it. It’s great for the home office when it sits on the desk most of the day and can wander around when needed. Only issues I’ve had are sometimes it doesn’t detect liquids and there can be condensation buildup on the coaster near the contacts, which needs wiping every so often. Works great for tea and black coffee, but creamers can separate out and skin over after a while. Great to receive as a gift (or stolen) but not something I’d buy for myself!
Re: battery life - I'd think the mug is optimized for holding at a temperature rather than expending energy to raise the temperature. Either way it seems like yet another product that when the battery is dead it gets tossed in a landfill and has to be replaced. Since it's not waterproof I'm not sure why they didn't go the replaceable battery route.
I was thinking about condensation too. That will create droplets outside the cup, thus be at risk of damaging the mug. Now I think that would be a pretty rare occurrence but just what if lol
This keeps it at a specific temperature, some people prefer very specific temperature ranges for their coffee. It also doesn't require a lid to maintain the temperature (not that that means much). It'll also slowly heat up colder coffee without destroying as much of the flavor as a microwave would. With that said, the app stinks and it's hit or miss if it'll actually connect to the mug without having to reset it every time
@@NickCombs hypothetically, yes. But your insulated mug isn't perfect, it loses heat constantly. On top of that, if you put freshly brewed coffee in something well insulated, it could be close to an hour before it's at a comfortable drinking temperature, once it finally is, it's a race against the clock before it falls out of the optimal range, and once it does, you'd have to dump it into a microwaveable cup, reheat and start the process over. Of course that's really only an issue if you're serious about your coffee. I like knowing it's at my set temperature, and is going to stay there. But then again, if you are really really really into coffee, you enjoy the flavor changes as it cools to experience all your coffee has to offer. And if you let it sit in the ember mug with only a little left, it starts to get the gross burnt flavor eventually. But I shut it off or turn the temp down if I don't finish it off.
@@2dthoughts if you are at your desk, you put it on the coaster and it will work all day long. If you aren't somewhere where that's feasible, then you probably have a need for something with a tight lid anyway, it's a non issue 99% of the time Also, 80 minutes is dependent on the temperature you set and the environment, you can put a covering over the mug and the battery will last much longer since it won't have to heat the coffee as much
I think I would've liked to have seen it compare to a thermos, since a regular coffee mug usually isn't meant to keep it warm, like a thermos or insulated cup would be. It may have been better to buy a cheaper insulated cup than getting this.
Agreed. As my coffee is brewing, I fill my insulated travel mug with hot tap water to pre-heat it, then dump it and fill it up with coffee. Seems to stay warm enough for my needs, so this, for me, is not worth the initial cost or electricity to charge it. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has had it for a while as to how long the battery is useful, before it wont hold much of a charge. 🙂
I wonder what the differences between that mug and an insulated travel mug? That mug will keep warm till battery runs out, but the travel mug doesn't have a battery and just insulates.. So if the £20 travel mug is drinkable after 2 hours and ember is cold after 2 hours, the travel mug wins imo.
They can also keep hot infinitely when connected to their charger. My mother is a coffee fiend and I got her one of these last Christmas because she'll brew all her coffee at once and drink it slowly throughout the day usually with snacks and certain meals. Before this she did have a normal travel mug, and for the latter part of the day had to get up and microwave her portions all over again. She hasn't gone a day without using this thing since she got it. Different strokes, different folks.
Peachy Primrose you actually cannot keep drink in a open mug warmer forever. After 2 hours, the drink will become so condensed and lose its original flavour. Just something I noticed.
Basically insulated mug keeps the drink at a temperature too high for too long. This thing is really aim at the coffee brewing crowd, that when the coffee just finished brewing, it's way too hot for most people to consume if you want to actually taste the coffee. If you put the coffee in an insulated tumbler at this point, it will remain that too hot temperature. However if you pour it to a regular mug, it will gone cold quickly and a lot of people would find it not tasting as well. So you got stuck in this tiny window for coffee tasting their "best". This mug is basically a device that let you always have your coffee at your most preferred temperature. Is it for everyone? Probably not. Even the hardcore coffee snobs debated if this thing is really necessary. But it has its market and it seems that everyone who got one enjoyed it. I personally don't mind cold coffee, but I got gifted a temperature control mug similar to ember (heating element inside the cup, but no battery in cup so it must be on the coaster after sipping, and no Bluetooth) and I have to say I really enjoy drinking my coffee and tea this way. Having the ability to drink from that perfect temperature every sip is surprisingly more enjoyable than I imagined.
I'm a slow sipper, had this for about a year and I can say the ember was the best purchased I've made during the quarantine. I know in my mind this is an over engineered, over price product. But I love it.

I love this mug. I picked it up from Best Buy, (deal of the day) at over 50% off. One thing I had to get used to was, in a typical mug, the last few sips of coffee are usually cold. But that is not the case with the Ember mug, I had to remember to drink those last few sips like the first.

Right, that’s a cool idea
It’s perfect for slow coffee sippers that’s tethered to their desk for work. The charging coaster keeps it warm for the entire day. Though you don’t want to leave the same coffee in there for more than a few hours as it starts to reduce into “espresso”.

This cup is life changing! Lol
It’s the little things….😊
The charging coaster not being waterproof is a big deal. When I drink I sometimes leave a little drop on the outside of the mug which runs down the side. Due to an old lip injury.
I would wonder if it’s more regarding people washing the coaster, rather than the expected drips from drinking?
Many insulated mugs (including the one I use myself) use a very small sipping hole for drinking. Do those work well for you?
Agreed. At this price, there is no reason not to have inductive charging.
@@williammeek4078 The reason is that it's slower.
A little liquid on the charging rings seems to be no problem
I’d love a coaster warmer comparison, to see if the coasters are similar enough to save $100!
As soon as you take it off the coaster, it starts cooling down, though........this cup will stay hot no matter where you take it.
Maybe the coaster can work off a powerbank? so then you can take it almost anywhere, but honestly i don't walk miles with my mug
The one I tried just baked it and make the coffee taste horrible in no time. Maybe one with a temperature setting would be better not sure.

Yea. I saw people complaining it takes too long to heat water and i wanted to shout at them
And it does so while keeping the outside cool and without leaking heat everywhere
Yep! Specific heat for water, or the amount of energy to raise a given mass of water by 1deg Kelvin is 4.186 kJ/kg•K. Quite a bit higher than say aluminum which is around 0.9… Quite a bit lower.

James Hoffman did a decent job convincing me that this a decent product. However, I remain unconvinced that it's that much better than just using an insulated coffee mug. (Note: Hoffman's review complained about the size, but James White avoided this issue by buying the expensive 14oz version).
Another person in the James-off aspect of the review! 😁
Insulated mugs dont heat coffee, thats the difference.
@@maireadnic8280 I feel like the two reviews offer very different, equally valuable perspectives. Hoffman focused on the user experience of owning the mug, whereas White focused on the functionality of the mug.

Hahaha yes. It burned down his spite store.
Manufacture says that is 10 ml. could be but it doesn’t hold 10 ml liquid.
Definitely an interesting product.. as someone that works in a contact center it can sometimes take me an hour to get through my coffee so this would be a perfect product for that, but i just cannot justify the price... If they halved it or better I would be seriously tempted.
I’ve had mind over a year, love it. You can get them cheaper. I got mine as a gift.
I'd love to see you review a Temperfect Mug. It was originally a kickstarter and I love their product. It keeps a beverage at perfect temp for hours with no electricity/charging. It uses the starting temperature of the beverage to store the heat and replace it as it cools.

@Bob Watters True! Many folks like iced-coffee these days, so wha's the difference?

Love how thorough this guy is in his reviews. I greatly respect that. He even often will go back like a year later to say how they fare.
This one just goes over my head. Just buy an insulated mug. Why on earth does a mug need Bluetooth and an app?
Valid question.
It Doesn't ;)
Insulated water bottle can keep for one day
Some people like their coffe at a specific consistent temp. The app exists to keep that temp
Its really as simple as that. Its an expensive product sure, but it does exactly what it says on the tin.
If you don't want that its useless to you. If you do want that, its not
Because thats not the same thing at all.
This is the best review I've seen of the ember mug... and I looked at a lot of reviews a year ago... This one convinced me and it was for sale for a 100 bucks!
The mug should bigger for this price!!
Maybe a pack of 4 lol
"Pour another gallon of coffee please." That should be big enough.
This feels like an item that few would buy for themselves but that would make a great gift.
I think my coffee maker was $20 cheaper than this mug... mug should brew my coffee.
And add cream and sugar. It also should make lattes and cappuccinos, and it would still be too expensive.
I tend to drink my mug of coffee within 15 minutes……its pretty cool tho…..😊✌️❤️ ( maybe a mug warmer for soups.)
Thanks! Exceptionally informative! And you went into all types of different details. Greatly appreciate this review!
Thank you for putting the celsius equivalent! ^-^ I'm in the UK. I'm clueless with imperial. lol
Every sip up until the last even after an hour you make it, is like the first sip of tea. blissful
I went and bought myself the bigger mug for my own birthday ahaha
I think a simpler solution would just be a vacuum insulated, sealed cup
A vacuum insulated mug would require a lid to prevent heat loss from surface to air contact. Although I have insulated mugs of different sizes, I find that I only use them when I travel. I prefer to drink my coffee without a lid. There is something about the smell of the coffee before you take your sip that makes it more enjoyable. You get that with a heated mug an hour later. Not with my Yeti.
@@brucecoleman7412 Indeed that's true. I hadn't even considered the inability to smell the coffee with a sealed mug. Sadly I don't experience much of a difference due to my impaired ability to smell.
Love the ‘Bold and Brash’ art piece on the wall.
I'd love to see a comparison to a vacuum insulated mug or even a ceramic travel mug. Those can keep drinks hot for hours for a fraction of the price. I guess the only advantage the Ember would have is being able to raise the temperature slightly, but is that really worth $100+ extra?
Open mugs bleed temperature like crazy and the temp gradually falls, while this keeps it at a consistent temp
Think of someone who wants the temp at a specific point consistently.

James can't wait for the follow-up on this to see how long it lasts?
James Hoffmann did a video on the Ember a while back - it made an appearance in another video recently and was still working just fine. It's one of those things that's conceptually so simple that there really isn't much to go wrong on it in the first place. It's for sure overpriced, but it at least seems well-built.
I put this one my Amazon wishlist back around my birthday and my SIL actually bought it for me having no idea what it was. It has been my new favorite thing ever. I use it everyday. To extend life of the battery I don't use the app. Having hot coffee for 2 hours every morning is like a luxury I never knew I needed.
The tech sector really just has to expand everywhere regardless of how much sense it makes. "Hold on guys, I have to go plug in my coffee cup."
Huh? Not everyone drinks coffee really fast. I sometimes take an hour. Once this is cheaper and can cool down drink to temp, this is an absolute buy
Looks like this will make a good Black Friday buy for a holiday gift.
Once the battery dies, it's just more e-waste.

@@MKE_Mike That's like calling a toilet that doesn't work... A chair.
Good job for referencing the comments on amazons which I don't see many reviewers doing.
I believe Techmoan and Barry Lewis reviewed it as will. They liked it.
I love Barry Lewis. I don't remember him reviewing it; now I must go search 🙂
@@munkustrap2 maybe I'm wrong but I thought he did. I thought he did soup like the recent one with the electric lunch box.
I wouldn't buy a $130 coffee mug even if it came with a $100 bill inside lol
I would pay $30 for this if it had inductive charging so the coaster was waterproof.
I would take that deal. I am amazed how much people will pay for an ordinary coffee mug,
I wouldn't pay for this if they gave it to me... 🙄
I still want it, nice to have my drinks stay warm when my office is cold .
Vacuum insulated mugs do the same thing, but without power. It doesn't seem worth it to me.
This keeps it at a specific temperature, some people prefer very specific temperature ranges for their coffee. It also doesn't require a lid to maintain the temperature (not that that means much).
It'll also slowly heat up colder coffee without destroying as much of the flavor as a microwave would. With that said, the app stinks and it's hit or miss if it'll actually connect to the mug without having to reset it every time
@@The9853 Seen this argument a few times, but keeping things at a specific temperature is what insulation does.
@@The9853 yeah but a good insulated mug will keep coffee hot and drinkable all day as opposed to 80 minutes of battery life
@@2dthoughts if you are at your desk, you put it on the coaster and it will work all day long. If you aren't somewhere where that's feasible, then you probably have a need for something with a tight lid anyway, it's a non issue 99% of the time
Also, 80 minutes is dependent on the temperature you set and the environment, you can put a covering over the mug and the battery will last much longer since it won't have to heat the coffee as much
Just got one for my birthday. So far love it!!!! Highly recommend it. Keeps my coffee ☕️ nice and hot.
A thermos mug is just as good for a fraction of the price. And keeps liquid hot enough, long enough for the average drinker.
The channel project farm did a video testing insulated water bottles to see how long they stayed cool or warm. Good to check out for your question
For most people probably the insulted travel mug is good. My Contigo 16oz keeps my coffee hot for about 3 hours. More than enough time to drink.
