I didn't used to like the Pelham blue on a guitar till I got to see it in person . Maybe its nostalgia but it reminds me of the metallic blue that GM used on some cars like the Corvette in the 60s. When I bought that second SG from you it was the pelham blue. I played the heck out of it of course as I do whenever I get a new guitar. It usually starts out as getting used to a guitar but after playing a guitar for awhile I find little secrets in tine and action which helps me to adjust it to my liking. But the more i played that SG especially plugged in the more i liked it. I am rather picky when it comes to certain things but having had to use a cheap knock off for years gives you a different way to look at decent players to better models. Over heard many people refer to Epiphone as toy guitars and my reply to them is first off all they were in business long before Gibson and Fender. I then remind them that it's a good alternative to spending over $1200 or more on a lot of brands these days . I also challenge them to go in any music store pull any Epiphone or all and try them. I've found several including the SGs I bought from you my Casino, my SJ200 and my Traditional Pro III that debunks the toy guitar statement.

I've got a question I forgot to ask you. Is there any place I can buy a shroud to install in my guitars case. If not what do you think it would be worth if someone could make them? I'm considering trying to make them myself although I only have a little experience sewing. Since the ex used to sew I have gained a little residual knowledge on the subject. Also do you think that would be something that people might be interested in obtaining as further protection in there guitar case?

I have the orginal Epi V and I absolutely love it. Despite many qc issues it is still one of my favorite, mainly bc of its well designed features: 58V body shape, floyd rose bridge, comfy neck, output jack on top wing and emg 57/66 pickups. I liked it so much that I started looking for a backup a year later but the price kept going up like crazy. The closest thing is a dean V but that is sadly no more (and I hate the headstock). I'm not a diehard fan of Mr. RF but he somehow designed my dream guitar.

  • @LastRide000
    @LastRide000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Maybe the biggest QC issue I noticed, and I look for when purchasing a guitar. The low and high E strings don't run evenly along the length of the fretboard. The low E string runs close to the edge of the fretboard that string slippage on the low E could happen. At 1:09 of the video you can pause and notice this as well as other sections of the video. The high E is high up on the fretboard . A touch off is fine, but that looks more than I like to see in a guitar.

The more I try to watch anything about Gibson Custom, especially. Everyone overlooks anything that Gibson should have caught at the factory like it's no big deal.
Most Custom Guitars start at 5 grand but are usually more than that from Gibson.
Paying 5 to 10 grand for anything, it should be absolutely perfect from the factory !!
The other problem I have with you and the others doing this is that ya'll will burn Fender and PRS for the most ridiculous things.
PRS is by far the best made Guitars available for what you pay. Their quality control is consistent across the range.
But Gibson is by far the worst quality control for anything they make.
I mean, the weight alone is almost a 2 and a half lbs different on Les Paul's alone.

Love that guitar!!!! Defects/accidental features / whatever, it's awesome. I bought a bone stock unused 2016 Gibson Flying V pretty much to flip it. And I had it for sale for a bit, but then I started liking it more and more and now.... I'm keeping it! If you play sitting down, you can wear a strap and hold it parallel with the end of the couch or chair and have the lower bout between your legs. With the strap on, it keeps it a little higher. This position keeps the 12th fret right under your nose....which is really nice. I'm looking for another V with different pickups because I love the guitar so much. I got really lucky with this one, it's got factory coil splits and sounds SO GOOD. So...try a V. I bet you'll like it! Oh ya, it's so light you'll really like playing it!

the prices of all these new V's and explorers really just dont make much sense when you compare them to the les pauls, which requires a lot more machining and detail work with the carved tops and (depending on model) burst finish, when most of these lately have been solid colours

I thought this was a very good review. On a side note, I appreciate the review being done by a solid guitar player who’s not a wizard or in the skill range of Alex Skolnick or well, Richie Faulkner. It almost makes the tones achieved & the entire presentation more realistic & representative of what the instrument will sound like in the hands of mortals like me.
Very important information shared about how the guitar doesn’t play itself & it feels fat in the hands. That’s a BIG no-no for me. I was considering this one & you really saved me time & potentially money. Thanks a lot for the thorough review.
PS- Gibson’s QC has been 2nd rate for a longgggg time. This is nothing new. I actually had to send my Jerry Cantrell Les Paul back…1st & only time that has happened to me. Started buying guitars in 1998.

Well she’s a very pretty guitar. I really like Faulkner too. A V in Pellham Blue is super nice and different.
Unfortunately a plastic battery compartment on a guitar costing $7k would be an absolute no-go for me. Come on Gibson, even ESP E-II guitars give you the “ash-tray” metal compartment which is a nice touch. This one is what you’d see on an Epi. And that’s before discussing the other small flaws which shouldn’t even make it past qc on a standard Gibby.
Outside of the small flaws, my only generic complaint would be the location of the jack but that’s a nitpick.
Whew, I’m a big Gibson guy but this would be a return or exchange for me.
    Badass guitar overall though!
