Genichiro literally sacrificed himself to open a gate to hell allowing young Isshin to come back in order to save Ashina. I swear to god that's the lore.
My guess is that the Isshin that's brought back to life is the Isshin that Genichiro believed to be the saviour of Ashina, aka Isshin at the age when he stopped Shura from going rampant and united Ashina.
Isshin grew up on the streets of downtown Ashina, where gun violence was at an all-time high, and he adopted the blade soon after moving to Great Ashina, where they banned firearms.
I love how Jev just shuts up and plays sometimes. Too many TH-camrs just continue to get their asses kicked at the expense of talking to a camera. It’s so relatable to just lock in and it’s more gratifying when you beat it and a better experience to watch in my opinion. And some of the most genuine rage moments come when you lock in and still die 😂 keep keeping it real Jev 🙏🏾
The black mortal blade is called "Open Gate" because it quite literaly opens a gate to the underworld and brings back the dead in their prime, so it's not that Isshin came out of Genichiro's body, its that the wound created by "Open Gate" is a literal portal to the next plane. it also compels whoever it brings back to carry out the will of he who sacrifices himself in the ritual, so that's why despite having no beef with you, Isshin still fights you to the death, and even asks you to take his head and says "Well done" once you kill him. For Genichiro, "Isshin was Ashina" and with his death so would ashina fall, and he was right as shown by the interior ministry invading their land as soon as Gigachad Grandpa died. So when Genichiro says, "Ashina will rise once more... the dragon's blood surging through her veings." He is speaking of Isshin, the embodyment of Ashina and Genichiro's vision for what was the epitome of Ashina's power, who rises once more now immortal thanks to the dragon's blood he had just taken from kuro, and he is forced to carry out his grandchild's will by trying to slay Sekiro, for he alone will stand in his way to harness kuro's blood for the sake of their land. Therefore, 'Isshin, the sword saint' is not only Isshin Ashina, but also Genichiro's will that was brought back from the underworld through a portal created by the black mortal blade.
Nice explanation. Never cared to look myself but that's actually hella interesting. Fromsoft lore sure doesn't miss even if it's impossible to find yourself.
@@Drewskii59 Don't get me wrong, Isshin likes to fight, of course he does. He's an old-school Miyamoto Musashi "live by the sword" type of guy. However, if he truly longed for a worthy duel that much out of his own free will, he'd have fought Sekiro in his old age for three reasons: One, he was sick and could die at any moment, so having a warrior's death would be most fitting for that characterization of Isshin; two, he had no idea whatsoever about his upcoming resurrection; and three, as one can see by his displays as the Tengu, on top of the fact that he held back the entire inner ministry army with just the fear he inspired on them and the tecniques he displayed such as "one mind", it's far more than clear that he was an absolute monster of a fighter even in his old age and sickness so that shouldn't hold him back at all. Now, there's a second reason why I don't think if Isshin was in full control, he would have fought Sekiro. Throughout the events of the game, Isshin is constantly displayed going out of his way to aid Sekiro in his quest to protect Kuro. With that information, we can be certain of two things: one, he wants Sekiro to succeed; and two, he has no sympathy for Genichiro's ways at all, those being using Kuro's blood to power Ashina; hell, he even states as much himself. In any other circumstance, yes, I do believe he would absolutely take pleasure in dueling Sekiro to see if he can meet his match, but in that specific situation in which Kuro's fate and life are at risk, if he could resist Genichiro's will, he would not have fought Sekiro simply because it would be going against his own ideals. However, since he can't really resist, he just goes along and enjoys the fight.
I always saw genericho as a spoiled child, this doesn't hurt that theory but definitely makes me feel a little bad how I saw him. I mean, at the end of the day he still sacrifices himself all and only in the name of "saving Ashina". At the very least he deserves some respect I never showed him.
i love how he does the compilations of dying but we can always tell when the final battle happens cause he gets real quiet and shows the entire fight from beginning to end
Just finished the last vid- love you jev im abt to graduate college and ive been watching you since my freshman year of high school- thanks for being the most consistent content creator i watch, really appreciate you man
Hey Jev, give yourself some credit man, you DESERVED that #3 trending ALL YT! You’re the goat bro, thanks so much for all these series, they are so satisfying; not to mention you deserve ALL the love you get!!! I end up playing the game after you do (if I haven’t beat it before, and if so I played again!). Truly, you’re a legend man! Thanks!
Because of you jev I started playing sekiro. My first souls game. I got so involved into the game that I did get the platin on it in like 60 hours. Thank you for inspiring me 😊
I like how up until the Ishin fight, the most advanced firearm you encounter in this game is like a musket. Ishin has a straight up glock. It would be kind of cool if they gave you a glock prosthetic for NG+ as a reward for beating Ishin.
Some tips for sekiro I doubt you'll see these but holding guard brings posture back faster, if you use mortal blade while jumping It's the same damage as a fully charged which is kinda easy for cheesing. Ceremonial tanto gives you more spirit emblems at the cost of health similar to a mimic tear.
Another awesome series, Jev. Can't wait to see what you pick up next. Lies of P is a super fun and challenging souls-like, with particularly good story in my opinion. Keep up the great work man. ✌️
If you want to do another play through to do the owl fight and still get some content, on your second playthru on a save you can give kuro his charm back, making it so if you hold the block button you take chip damage, forcing you to learn to perfect parry attacks. When i did this i had the most fun playthru the game really became challenging and way more fun to me. Also by turning on the demon bell asap by going past the first headless, (demon bell Gives bosses more health and posture and makes them do more damage)
Loved your playthrough man, sekiro is my favourite for sure but I wish I could see a dark souls playthrough! That would make my life completed 🙏❤️ thanks for your hard work with these videos. Doesn’t go unnoticed
So the lore is that the black mortal blade allows you to unlock a gate to the underworld which is what we see while the red is used to acquire the dragons tears. Genchiros master tried to sever the divine heirs power long before us but she only had the black blade and thus failed
Quick tip for anyone having trouble. The “mortal draw” attack that Genichiro does can be perfect parried with purple umbrella. Same with Isshin’s wind attacks. Just have to get the timing obvs
He had the amount of beads most people have at the end of the game just not every one of them, your so unlikely to get every single prayer unless u look up every location
I got beef with Demon of Hatred but I do think it's kinda neat that the last 2 bosses of the game are 1. A boss that makes you unlearn everything about the games fighting system And 2. A boss that makes you recall everything you learned from the games fighting system
Go into NG+ on your Shura ending account. You will have 2 boss rush modes. 1 consisting of the shura questline and 1 consisting of the main ending questline. By starting NG+ on your shura account you will have access to the shura one and later access to the main ending one. NG+ also isn’t that bad since you will still be able to enhance attack power
Owl father. Inner bosses! You just have to reach them once to unlock them in reflections Geni has the black mortal blade called “open gate” it requires a sacrifice to open the gate to the underworld where isshin comes out of.
If you're looking for more of a challenge, you unlock the ability to hand in Kuro's Charm after beating the game once, even on a new character. Handing in the charm debuffs you so if you don't perfect-deflect, you take chip damage. There's also another "buff" that nets you more items but makes bosses do more damage called the Demon Bell.
Coming back to the game after a major humble will only make you stronger. I just had this experience this week after coming back to the game after 6 months because of corrupt monks 3 hour session of humbling. Beated final boss in 40 minutes.
