Yeah, my dad started water meter reading for our city in 1980. He started right at the beginning of summer, and he said he remembered it being the hottest summer he could ever remember. We live in Texas, and in 1980, we had 100+ degree temps nearly every day that summer.

    • @disoriented1
      @disoriented1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I was 16 in '80 and remember hearing about Texas. It was bad enough in Kansas City, MO; we had seventeen straight days of 100F plus highs, when we usually have perhaps 1 day a year.

Hey Ron & Justine! Yes, I remember some very hot summers in the 80s, but also the 60s, 70s and 90s in the different places I've lived. I worked at a vineyard about 1977 in MI and more than once the group of us were sent home due to the heat. In the early 2000s, also MI, very high 90s.
I like cauliflower, too, Ron. Justine, for someone who doesn't care for it, you made a great looking dish!
Thanks for sharing! God bless! Sue ♥

I am a viewer from arizona, it’s hot hot HOT here. Because we are cooled down due to our monsoons, it’s about 96 degrees today and about 40% humidity, but typically, this is our hottest time of year with temperatures as high as 120. On record, our highest recorded temperature ever was 123 degrees in 1993, and it got to 122 in 2000 or so.
With that being said, 100 hits different in the desert versus somewhere like the Midwest or the coasts. I hope you’re staying cool!

It makes for perfect summer viewing. 👌🏻 I have learned so much about Early American Cooking from you both. Did you know that Chef Jose Andrés did a project about Early American cooking back in 2011? America Eats Tavern in Washington, D.C., explored American heritage dishes inspired by an exhibit at the National Archives, "What's Cooking, Uncle Sam? The Government's Effect on the American Diet in its early days... I found it fascinating to learn how much the American diet has changed over the centuries

If you like garlic and onions, what you could do w/cauliflower is cook it and kind of mash it up or rice it up. Then saute the onions and garlic in butter or oil and then mix w/the cauliflower, then salt to taste. I'm not real big on cauliflower, but I will eat it steamed once in a while, but this is wonderful! Maybe even put some cheese on top of that!

Cheesy cauliflower sounds great to me. I don’t like broccoli, but as far as Kohls go, I love brussel sprouts…. Hubby doesn’t like cauliflower so I don’t grow them and only rarely buy a cauliflower. Brave souls for cooking on a wood fire during a hot day…. I only cook on wood outside in the Summer….

Yes, so much to blame it on, there was cauliflower, milk, butter and cheese!
      Poor Justine!
We had a man at work that used to like sharing his smelly gas - one day, being really fed up of him, one of the office girls gave him lots of laxative chocolate, we were all waiting to see what would happen... ...well he cocked his leg as usual to begin his trumpet solo, and then suddenly ran out of the room.
Then we heard he had gone home because he ‘wasn’t feeling well’!
It took him about a month before he did it again :-)

I even ask the the Chinese takeout in my town to keep the peas out of the fried rice. I was watching with some amusement and concern as Ron polished off the cauliflower. 110 is unknown here in Britain! It's usually 75 if we are lucky. I'm in the north so it often rains for weeks at 68 in June. :(

That is very interesting to know about the temperature during the 1700. I know my kids will find that little bit of information very interesting as well since they love history.. thanks for sharing that little information on the temperature during that time frame...

Had to laugh at that last big bite of steak Ron took, that boy has some real jaw power! Great videos you two!
Just found you recently and find myself checking for your latest.

My feelings exactly and I get a kick out of Justine too. She's so tiny and can put it away too. Cracks me up.

Oklahoma has had the 100s plus, too. 104 today. The other day was 113! You two are brave to stay in there in 111. I lived in Pevely in 1980 but don’t remember a particularly hot season. Probably because I was a teen and didn’t care. Now I do! LOL
