This combination of adapters shorts together the left and right channels of the headphone output on the Rodecaster. You can probably get away with that, but there’s a potential to damage the headphone output that way. To do this safely, you’d need an external mixer to combine the left and right signals. Alternatively, you could just send right OR left to the iRig. The caller would still hear in both ears. It would be perfectly fine if all your other sources are mono, and probably good enough even if there’s some stereo background music.
Thank you for your comment! Alternatively one could use the Behringer MX400 instead of the dual mono to single mono adapter, as it is an external mixer that has a mono output. Nothing went wrong in my testings, but I’m also not an certified audio engineer, so if this is a concern, the MX400 will do the job an it also does not break the bank. Or Apple should just allow phone calls through the USB port. :)
I’m soooooooooooooooo grateful for this! Been searching for a year and finally we can use RCP2 for Twitter spaces while live-streaming on video, without losing quality (as happens with Bluetooth). Amazing 🙌
Just now tested and it does work great. There seems to be some little things to iron out with settings. It seems to have a tiny little pop sound every so often on the spaces recording. Not sure why or how to get rid of it.
youre a lifesaver.this was the only info I could find anywhere on the web. i needed this to use game chat (xbox) through rcp2 and it worked the same way with the irig2. as far as I know you are the only one who figured out how to configure the headphone out as usable trrs outputs. thank you!!!
Wow! I had an iRig adapter gathering dust on the shelf, and; I have been fussing about not having a hard-wired phone connection to my RCPII. The Bluetooth connection just lacks a quality signal for my podcast. I followed your directions and had a hard-wired connection in less than 5 minutes that WORKS! Thanks so much!
I've tried it it works perfectly and it's clear. So now i can get rid of the bluetooth that don't want ton connect automatically on the XSMAX when i receive a call. Thanks a lot.
Great content and really awesome production value. Thank you for producing this video, it was really quite great! It reminded me of the days on an analog mixer where we had to build mix-minus solutions ourselves - which was good, because it really forced me to think through the signal chain and understand what was being routed where. RCP2 makes it so much easier these days, but your external analog solution to keep things wired up is something I can definitely appreciate. :)
There are many YT videos that describe how to record with the iPhone via bluetooth. I tried that several times, but the voice of the called party sounded very strange each time. Much deeper than the original and artificial. But this one works so well that it's hard to believe. Looks a little funny, the tangle of cables on the table, but who cares: it does what it's supposed to. As far as I've searched and found, I can say this is the only video that has a workaround for this form of iPhone phone calls. Thanks alot. You saved me a lot of jobs with that. My alternative seemed to be buying an Android phone. As an Apple user for decades, it would have broken my heart.
I don't have the equipment to do this but I was able to follow your explanation pretty easy so your channel must have more subjects to help getting podcasts for newbie's off the ground.
Thank you so very much good sir. This was driving me nuts and even more so knowing that Roade added the TRRS to the Duo and I was out of the returning window. Anyways this worked wonderfully and I tested it with Facetime with no issue.
Congrats . very nice video. Can you make a video connecting the rodecaster Duo to a Iphone with new mix-min and this cable systme? Thnak you very much, keep the very good job
Hi, thanks! I could replicate this video using the RC Duo, but it would be just repeating myself, as the Duo will work exactly the same way as the Pro II, only you‘d use Channel 2 instead of Channel 4 and headphone port 2 instead of 4, as you only have two of both. The software settings are also the same, just set the submix for headphone output 2 instead of 4 and remove channel 2 from it instead of channel 4.
im going to try this weekend thanks for this video (the only one I can find anywhere) I tried to do this with USB c to headphone and mic splitter on the USB 2output but it didn't work but in theory it should as the usb1 and usb2 are both input and output at the same time. ever try that or know why it wouldn't work??
Hi, I did not have the possibility to test it, but Røde keeps referring to an „iOS“ limitation, not a limitation in the connection type, so my best guess is unfortunately: no…
I would like to point out that I did the test with two different acoustic devices. The first time both devices connected perfectly, and the second Bluetooth symbol appeared next to the outgoing monitor symbol. I turned the rhodecaster pro II off and on again, both devices were no longer displayed among the devices and I was no longer able to connect them. I repeat, the first time they worked perfectly. What could I do to solve the problem? Thank you
sorry any idea why it's not working for me please? i've watched it many times and it's all set properly, brand new cables but i get no sound from the iphone
Hi! I don‘t. Curtis Judd has a great video about it though, I suggest you check that out: th-cam.com/video/jW4V6owu7SI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VKciLxPDsL1lNOeA (from 2:00)
Thanks to your great instruction I’ve got everything hooked up. I can hear the caller in my headphones but they can barely hear me on their phone. Either the sound from my mic isn’t going to the phone or the mic output is extremely low. When I record all audio inputs sound fine on my end. My concern is that the caller won’t be able to hear me. Any ideas what is going on and how I can fix this?
The 3.5mm headset jack unfortunately does not work the same way on the RC Duo as the TRRS port did on the original RCP: it is purely meant for headsets, albeit it does get its own channel. Nevertheless, since you have 2 combo inputs and 2 standard headphone ports on the Duo with the same custom routing and submixes options as on the RCP2, you can set it up on the Duo as well. Not 3x, only 1x as you need the other combo input for your mic - unless you are using the headset on the TRRS port as your own main mic and headphone, then you can use both combo jacks and headphone ports for this setup and you can then set it up twice.
@@PodcastMeister Will do! Subbed with Notos on. Love how deep you get into the configs on the RODECaster So far your the only one that I know of that goes this deep.
I don’t think you need this for the pixel pro 7 as you can just use the USB2 port to connect it to the RCP2 and record through there (the limitation is scepcifically mentioned for iOS, not for Android). Nonetheless, this setup should work with the Pixel Pro II as well, with a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle that helps connecting the iRig2 to the phone, as the iRig2 has a 3.5mm plug. I haven’t tested it though - but I have been testing it earlier with android phones and it worked there, so I see no reason why it shouldn’t.
Can you tell me more? I just got the pro 2 to find out this is insane with no mobile support. I have an iPhone 15. Could you get it to work with less cables?

Did it work? were you able to use the RCP2 for spaces - talk and also add live stream to the spaces?
Just now tested and it does work great. There seems to be some little things to iron out with settings. It seems to have a tiny little pop sound every so often on the spaces recording. Not sure why or how to get rid of it.
It works with iPhone 15 via USB now I believe. It works with my iPhone 15 Pro for sure.

Thanks so much. I just wish they would've kept the TRRS cable.
Although I’m way too lazy to do this, it’s amazing that you figured out this work around.

you are really good at this bro! learned a lot. i subscribed. Thanks so much!
Thank you for making this helpful video!
Nice work Mister Meister! like I said before WHY you aren't 100k plus subs is beyond me! 👌🏽
This really works 👊🏽 Thank You so much for this information 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great explanation. Thanks. Do you know whether an iphone can be connected to the streamer X?
Do you use a. Robot to record these animated type video transition things showing the hardware? It’s too perfect 😅
