I absolutely loved Charlie's Angels when I was a kid in the '70s. My Dad had the hots for Farrah big time, and had that iconic t-shirt back then. I bought him a reproduction for his birthday earlier this year. We all got a chuckle seeing my 74 year old dad smiling with his new Farrah t-shirt on, lol.
I didn't get into Charlie's Angels until the movie from 2000. I was born in 1982, so the TV series was obviously before my time. I like both movies and this caused me to go and watch the original Charlie's Angels and I love the series even more.

Are the blu ray episodes the ones that were in syndication? One example of how you can tell is in the 5th season with Tanya Roberts first episode, at the end of the episode, she is on the beach holding Harry Stearns (Vic Morrow). Before it went to syndication, the episode ended with Bosley telling Kelly and Kris that Harry Stearns is a cop and that she must be some sort of cop too, then it shows Julie and the episode ended. In syndication and on the dvd, it omits Bosley’s explanation and goes right to Julie’s face.
I love Charlie's Angels. grew up with the 2000s films. And as much I love Lucy Liu; the show is more amazing. I love these classic shows so much, I have to get it. I love the 50s to 90s, I watch the reruns. I have the DVD box set from Mills Creek but I am getting this set too.
I was on the fence about buying Blu-ray vs DVD as a box set, but I am definitely now leaning more towards the Blu-ray, because the quality just looks so much more well done!
It's night and day, like a layer of haze has been lifted from the episodes and the colors turned back up. I highly recommend the Blu-rays, especially if you liked the show enough to buy the DVDs. Charlie's Angels has never looked so good, not even on original broadcast.
I'm very impressed with the image quality. I love to see old shows like this get a blu-ray release that drastically improves the visual quality. I'm amazing some of these old shows are able to have this much life breathed back into them.
Agreed! When I did the comparison shots, I was so amazed at how much more natural and crisp the HD versions are. And to be honest, I don't even think they're new remasters, I think they're probably about ten years old. These are probably the versions that Sony licensed out to streaming services. The key seems to be whether or not shows were shot on film, as film gives us that solid HD image. They could probably even do 4K scan for this show, though I don't expect Sony to invest in that at this point. This is probably as good as it gets. Heck, Blu-ray has been around over a decade, and they've just now allowed someone to put them on the format.

Apparently Mill Creek learned from their mistakes where packaging is concerned on this Charlie's Angels Blu-- their Blus of Knight Rider and Miami Vice, among others, had it where the four discs of each go (go being my word for season, taken from auto racing, where a green flag means go) were stacked two to a side and touching each other, and I personally believe that Mill Creek did Charlie's Angels fans a big favor by modifying the packaging format here to give each disc a separate tray.
Definitely a part of Mill Creek's growth and increasing commitment to quality. The retail price for this set was also considerably higher than their previous Blu-ray sets (Knight Rider, That '70s Show, etc), and that trend toward a higher standard has continued into other Blu-ray collections from the company, including 30 Rock, King of Queens, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Mindy Project, 12 Monkeys, and Eureka.
What a great set! I watched that as a kid. LOL. I loved your disco/techno imitation. I am so glad shows like this are being given good treatments. That poster might have been in my cousin’s bedroom. I also might have took a look at it every chance I got as a young man. LOL. She was so lovely.

Hallmark showed “Charlie’s Angels” in about 16:8, as it did with “Hogan’s Heroes,” and both looked spectacular. Currently have “Hart to Hart” in 16:9. Until recently could purchase complete HH set (Region free) from AMAZON GERMANY, but not currently, perhaps due to COVID-19.
Yeah it wasn't that big-the most we heard of Farrah was when Lee Majors would reference her when singing his Fall Guy song (now that show was popular!) however I caught it on re-runs on SKY TV.
The quality of the film is very impressive and super clear way better than the DVD version. My only complaint or something I'd like to see released in the future is a widescreen version like the Wonder Woman blu-ray edition. I remember some years back Charlie's Angels was presented in widescreen HD on the Universal HD network. I haven't seen it presented in widescreen ever since, so hopefully we get a widescreen version in the future. Maybe when the 4K series of blu-rays come out in the future we'll get that 16:9 aspect ratio over 4:3 in those versions.
YES! I have the complete series on DVD, but some of the discs are flippers (data on both sides) and freeze up in my players. That show definitely needs an upgrade. I think it could be done, too, I just wonder if any company would be worried about backlash and boycotts because of the rebel flag on the General Lee. They pulled the DVDs out of circulation for a while for that very reason. I think it's mostly blown over now, but I do wonder if that has impacted any decisions behind the scenes about licensing the show.
You know, I thought the very same thing as to why it's taking so long. I never took the show as a big deal, just super fun to watch. It's a southern family from Georgia with a cool 69 Charger. I don't Advocate racism or violence but General Lee or the rebel flag never bothered me. It's just Southern history.

I remember a few years ago when the rebel flag controversy seemed to reach a fever pitch and people were accusing the show of being racist. The thing is, The Dukes of Hazzard was NEVER racist. Though the show could be marketed completely without using that image. I believe even Warner Brothers abandoned images of that flag for later disc pressings. Of course, that's another problem: Dukes of Hazzard is with Warner Brothers, and Warner doesn't license their stuff out for release. They either do it in house via Warner Home Video or Warner Archive, or they don't do it at all. My gut tells me it will probably be a long time before the Duke boys come to Blu-ray. But I hope I'm wrong.
I've never seen a single episode of Charmed! I appreciate the request, but I'd be starting from scratch with that show. Maybe one day I'll catch up with it on Blu!
Thanks! Hmmm, Married with Children, I have to say no. I don't think that show was shot on film, I think it was shot on video. That means not only are there no HD transfers in existence, but that the source material isn't even HD-friendly. If there's an HD version of the show streaming on some service, then I stand corrected.
Cool and glad for the attention to the series, but the DVDs are actually perfect for my favorite way to watch them, which is the last hour before bed (a room in which I don't have a BD player).
My Miami Vice Blu-ray set has five individual standard Blu-ray cases (one per season) with two discs stacked on each hub. But yep, that one is 20 discs too. I do prefer this packaging to the Miami Vice packaging, though.
@@CerealAtMidnight Oh yeah I forgot the thin cases are standard Blu-rays over there. I call them paper thin because they just feel really flimsy compared to the thicker ones we have in Aus (that you'd get from Umbrella etc.) especially holding 4 discs. But they do take up less shelf space which is nice.
Oh you're in Australia! That explains a lot. Yes indeed, those cases over there are like armor. Bullet proof! I love them. They've been doing this thing in the States for a while called Eco Cases where they have the recycling symbol cut out of the plastic, making the standard Blu-ray cases even flimsier. Mill Creek didn't use those, thankfully. They offer very little protection.
So my campaign to have this under the Christmas tree involved an initial shared link to Amazon to my folks for gift ideas. The second part of my PR strategy was sharing this in depth review. Full disclosure, in pulling some screen caps for the article on the site, I ran across an episode that looked like it might be a DVD upscale (the episode in question is "Angel on the Line" from season 5), but that may be because film elements weren't available. It looked better than DVD, but not up to the same filmic look as everything else I've seen. Other episodes from season 5 looked great.
Please Tell me that the 2 hour Charlie's Angels episodes are uncut. Season 5 of Charlie's Angels, that premiered Tanya Roberts as Julie Rogers was a three-hour episode. I hope that's also uncut along with Love Boat Angels

There are edited episodes. Season 2 opener is split in 2 pts originally was a 2 hr premiere. When Sabrina goes to see Don Ho they cut him singing. Season 5 premiere was a 3hr format. Its split up...title changed... an edited when Julie sees Harry shot. The end of first 2 hours had a link clip to the first Hawaii eps. Edited out I know thus cause i have the original airings complete with commercials from their original run.
Those Early 2000 movies were pretty good , but the latest Charlie's Angels movie that just came out i guess 2018 it was something else , seeing this one very skilled Martial Artist that looked skilled like they have been practicing for their whole life i would say about 30 years , being beat by a person that didn't look like they could fight their way out of a wet paper bag , was lust a little bit much personally for me .
Charlie's Angels was a staple of my childhood, I remember the iconic Bond-inspired opening, the music... don't remember much of the episodes themselves though, even though I definitely watched a few. But I always have the same concern with these old shows, which is... do they hold up? I mean, TV has changed so much since then and become so sophisticated, and nostalgia can only get you so far... I guess I should look at it more as piece of pop culture history and to not compare it to modern TV... anyway, looks like a great set. The upgrade in PQ is substantial.
Whether they hold up or not will depend on each person. For me, I prefer retro TV to modern. That doesn't mean I don't like or watch modern TV, but classic television is definitely a safe comfort zone. They might not be as binge-able as modern TV, and I've heard lots of people say that they can't watch 70s and 80s cartoons anymore, or the shows my generation grew up on. Luckily, it's gotten easier and easier as I've gotten older to lose myself in old-school TV. So much so that retro has become our main focus. One thing's for sure, it does indeed look so much better than it did on DVD or TV.
@@CerealAtMidnight Old TV shows are less "bingable" because they were mostly episodic and not serialized. That makes them more collectible in my opinion because it's easier to just pop in and watch an episode or two, while with a serialized show you usually feel like you need to watch a whole arc or a whole season in order to get into the groove, and that means it's gonna sit on the shelf longer because of the time commitment needed.
It’s filmed, but I have to edited it. Full disclosure, it was done over Skype and the quality isn’t great. Lots of freezes and drop-outs, so it just needs some work. I’m glad to know there’s still an audience for such a video! I’ll see if I can’t get it up soon. Maybe this week!

Favorite show growing up and now! Didn't like the reboot a few years ago. Some shows just can't be re-vamped. (Ha Ha, happy accidental joke). Kelly was my favorite angel. Favorite episode was Angels In Chains and the one set around the carnival,(Chris as a trapeze artist and Kelly was a motorcycle daredevil).
Agreed, Charlie, some shows are just perfectly of their time and don't translate beyond that. They're rooted in the culture that they originated from. Best to enjoy them at their purest and not try to recapture lightning in a bottle.
That was going to be my question. The original broadcast 2 hour versions of Angels in Paradise, Angels on Ice, Angels in Vegas, Terror on Skis, Love Boat Angels & Angel in Hiding haven't been seen since they first aired! It's a shame Mill Creek couldn't include those original versions on this really nice Blu-ray set. I already own the individual seasons as well as Sony's complete series on DVD & the only thing that would have gotten me to triple dip on this Blu-ray set was getting those original versions! Nope, but hopefully one day! Those shows are distributed by Universal, and Mill Creek Entertainment has a deal with Universal, having put out Knight Rider, The Rockford Files, Miami Vice, Quantum Leap, and Airwolf on Blu-ray. Six Million Dollar Man, Magnum P.I., and The A-Team seem like they'd be sure--fire hits.

I love the classic show, have some mixed feelings though because one of the great crime dramas at the time on ABC, Harry O (1973-76) with David Janssen, got canceled to make room for Charlie's Angels. By the way, there's a new Charlie's Angels movie out now (with a different cast) it looks just as bad as the first two ones.
Someone else brought up Harry O recently, and it's something I'm going to have to check out on DVD at some point. Also, we reviewed the new Charlie's Angels movie in a video that went up yesterday!
That's a good question about the original music. I'll have to see if I can check. I know Miami Vice has all the music, but I believe that was licensed from Universal. This is from Sony, so we will have to see if Sony cleared music rights.
ME TOO! At this point, my Blu-ray bucket list contains Magnum P.I., the A-Team, and The Incredible Hulk. The Miami Vice releases are great, and they retain all the original music, as well.
I would love to get an Avengers blu-ray set. They exist in the UK, but not here yet. And not in a 'complete set', but by season That 70s Show is 18 discs, and the first print was special. The box had a shaggy exterior and the whole thing looked like a box collecting a bunch of vinyl records
I was wrong, Miami Vice is also 20 discs. I would grab Avengers in a heartbeat, brother. That show is SO hard to find in North America, and I'm thankful to have all the Emma Peel seasons on disc, but the others are impossible to track down without importing. I remember that shag carpet 70s Show set! Our Brady Bunch DVD set is also covered in shag carpet, but the discs inside are stored in a garbage paper accordion. They reissued it recently with all the specials and animated series, so I suspect we'll upgrade at some point.

I would love to get the classic shows I loved as a kid on blu ray but my top favourites (Magnum PI and The A Team) are so expensive, at least here in the UK. Probably justifiably, however it is hard to justify it to your wife when you inform her you have spent £140 on The A Team. That's the problem, the kid in us wants it, but the poor adult in you trying to pay the mortgage says "No!"

That's why restoration is important, and why we should be so excited about shows like Charlie's Angels on Blu-ray. Film outperforms digital every time. The information stored in a 35mm film frame blows away a 4K digital image over and over again.
My Lost in Space DVDs Complete series is much better then my Blu Ray Lost in space Complete series , but most of the time i will agree Blu ray is much better , but 4K i find even better video quality then most all of them .

You know, I thought the very same thing as to why it's taking so long. I never took the show as a big deal, just super fun to watch. It's a southern family from Georgia with a cool 69 Charger. I don't Advocate racism or violence but General Lee or the rebel flag never bothered me. It's just Southern history.

I remember a few years ago when the rebel flag controversy seemed to reach a fever pitch and people were accusing the show of being racist. The thing is, The Dukes of Hazzard was NEVER racist. Though the show could be marketed completely without using that image. I believe even Warner Brothers abandoned images of that flag for later disc pressings. Of course, that's another problem: Dukes of Hazzard is with Warner Brothers, and Warner doesn't license their stuff out for release. They either do it in house via Warner Home Video or Warner Archive, or they don't do it at all. My gut tells me it will probably be a long time before the Duke boys come to Blu-ray. But I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks! Hmmm, Married with Children, I have to say no. I don't think that show was shot on film, I think it was shot on video. That means not only are there no HD transfers in existence, but that the source material isn't even HD-friendly. If there's an HD version of the show streaming on some service, then I stand corrected.
I'm hoping Mill Creek will give us Who's the Boss CS on DVD next year

Cool and glad for the attention to the series, but the DVDs are actually perfect for my favorite way to watch them, which is the last hour before bed (a room in which I don't have a BD player).
Their Miami Vice set has 20 discs but they're stacked inside paper-thin cases. This set looks a lot better.
My Miami Vice Blu-ray set has five individual standard Blu-ray cases (one per season) with two discs stacked on each hub. But yep, that one is 20 discs too. I do prefer this packaging to the Miami Vice packaging, though.
@@CerealAtMidnight Oh yeah I forgot the thin cases are standard Blu-rays over there. I call them paper thin because they just feel really flimsy compared to the thicker ones we have in Aus (that you'd get from Umbrella etc.) especially holding 4 discs. But they do take up less shelf space which is nice.
Oh you're in Australia! That explains a lot. Yes indeed, those cases over there are like armor. Bullet proof! I love them. They've been doing this thing in the States for a while called Eco Cases where they have the recycling symbol cut out of the plastic, making the standard Blu-ray cases even flimsier. Mill Creek didn't use those, thankfully. They offer very little protection.
So my campaign to have this under the Christmas tree involved an initial shared link to Amazon to my folks for gift ideas. The second part of my PR strategy was sharing this in depth review. I will update you on whether this two prong marketing attack works (because you know owning two DVD sets of the series isn’t enough!) Full disclosure, in pulling some screen caps for the article on the site, I ran across an episode that looked like it might be a DVD upscale (the episode in question is "Angel on the Line" from season 5), but that may be because film elements weren't available. It looked better than DVD, but not up to the same filmic look as everything else I've seen. Other episodes from season 5 looked great.

There are edited episodes. Season 2 opener is split in 2 pts originally was a 2 hr premiere. When Sabrina goes to see Don Ho they cut him singing. Season 5 premiere was a 3hr format. Its split up...title changed... an edited when Julie sees Harry shot. The end of first 2 hours had a link clip to the first Hawaii eps. Edited out

Those Early 2000 movies were pretty good , but the latest Charlie's Angels movie that just came out i guess 2018 it was something else , seeing this one very skilled Martial Artist that looked skilled like they have been practicing for their whole life i would say about 30 years , being beat by a person that didn't look like they could fight their way out of a wet paper bag , was lust a little bit much personally for me .

Probably not, but anything is possible. It would be great to have both in HD.
Charlie's Angels was a staple of my childhood, I remember the iconic Bond-inspired opening, the music... don't remember much of the episodes themselves though, even though I definitely watched a few. But I always have the same concern with these old shows, which is... do they hold up? I mean, TV has changed so much since then and become so sophisticated, and nostalgia can only get you so far... I guess I should look at it more as piece of pop culture history and to not compare it to modern TV... anyway, looks like a great set. The upgrade in PQ is substantial.
Whether they hold up or not will depend on each person. For me, I prefer retro TV to modern. That doesn't mean I don't like or watch modern TV, but classic television is definitely a safe comfort zone. They might not be as binge-able as modern TV, and I've heard lots of people say that they can't watch 70s and 80s cartoons anymore, or the shows my generation grew up on. Luckily, it's gotten easier and easier as I've gotten older to lose myself in old-school TV. So much so that retro has become our main focus. One thing's for sure, it does indeed look so much better than it did on DVD or TV.
@@CerealAtMidnight Old TV shows are less "bingable" because they were mostly episodic and not serialized. That makes them more collectible in my opinion because it's easier to just pop in and watch an episode or two, while with a serialized show you usually feel like you need to watch a whole arc or a whole season in order to get into the groove, and that means it's gonna sit on the shelf longer because of the time commitment needed.

It’s filmed, but I have to edited it. Full disclosure, it was done over Skype and the quality isn’t great. Lots of freezes and drop-outs, so it just needs some work. I’m glad to know there’s still an audience for such a video! I’ll see if I can’t get it up soon. Maybe this week!

Favorite show growing up and now! Didn't like the reboot a few years ago. Some shows just can't be re-vamped. (Ha Ha, happy accidental joke). Kelly was my favorite angel. Favorite episode was Angels In Chains and the one set around the carnival,(Chris as a trapeze artist and Kelly was a motorcycle daredevil).
Agreed, Charlie, some shows are just perfectly of their time and don't translate beyond that. They're rooted in the culture that they originated from. Best to enjoy them at their purest and not try to recapture lightning in a bottle.

That was going to be my question. The original broadcast 2 hour versions of Angels in Paradise, Angels on Ice, Angels in Vegas, Terror on Skis, Love Boat Angels & Angel in Hiding haven't been seen since they first aired! It's a shame Mill Creek couldn't include those original versions on this really nice Blu-ray set. I already own the individual seasons as well as Sony's complete series on DVD & the only thing that would have gotten me to triple dip on this Blu-ray set was getting those original versions! Nope, but hopefully one day! Those shows are distributed by Universal, and Mill Creek Entertainment has a deal with Universal, having put out Knight Rider, The Rockford Files, Miami Vice, Quantum Leap, and Airwolf on Blu-ray. Six Million Dollar Man, Magnum P.I., and The A-Team seem like they'd be sure--fire hits.

I love the classic show, have some mixed feelings though because one of the great crime dramas at the time on ABC, Harry O (1973-76) with David Janssen, got canceled to make room for Charlie's Angels. By the way, there's a new Charlie's Angels movie out now (with a different cast) it looks just as bad as the first two ones.
Someone else brought up Harry O recently, and it's something I'm going to have to check out on DVD at some point. Also, we reviewed the new Charlie's Angels movie in a video that went up yesterday!

That's a good question about the original music. I'll have to see if I can check. I know Miami Vice has all the music, but I believe that was licensed from Universal. This is from Sony, so we will have to see if Sony cleared music rights.
I hope the blu ray quality for Charlie's Angel's is good.

ME TOO! At this point, my Blu-ray bucket list contains Magnum P.I., the A-Team, and The Incredible Hulk. The Miami Vice releases are great, and they retain all the original music, as well.

That 70s Show is 18 discs, and the first print was special. The box had a shaggy exterior and the whole thing looked like a box collecting a bunch of vinyl records
I was wrong, Miami Vice is also 20 discs. I would grab Avengers in a heartbeat, brother. That show is SO hard to find in North America, and I'm thankful to have all the Emma Peel seasons on disc, but the others are impossible to track down without importing. I remember that shag carpet 70s Show set! Our Brady Bunch DVD set is also covered in shag carpet, but the discs inside are stored in a garbage paper accordion. They reissued it recently with all the specials and animated series, so I suspect we'll upgrade at some point.

I would love to get the classic shows I loved as a kid on blu ray but my top favourites (Magnum PI and The A Team) are so expensive, at least here in the UK. Probably justifiably, however it is hard to justify it to your wife when you inform her you have spent £140 on The A Team. That's the problem, the kid in us wants it, but the poor adult in you trying to pay the mortgage says "No!"
Is the A-Team really 140 pounds?! That's outrageous. I agree, way too high. I can't imagine it needs to be that expensive. I'm hoping they get released in the US at some point, as I'm still rocking DVD sets for A-Team and Magnum. "I pity the fool who charges 140 pounds for my show!"

Charlie's Angels was shot on 35 mm film, just like feature films, and as a result, it looks wonderful on Blu-ray.

That's why restoration is important, and why we should be so excited about shows like Charlie's Angels on Blu-ray. Film outperforms digital every time. The information stored in a 35mm film frame blows away a 4K digital image over and over again.
My Lost in Space DVDs Complete series is much better then my Blu Ray Lost in space Complete series , but most of the time i will agree Blu ray is much better , but 4K i find even better video quality then most all of them .
Why do you prefer the standard definition version of Lost in Space to the High Definition version? The Blu-ray image look absolutely gorgeous.

It wasn't a general statement about 4:3 TV, it was a statement about Charlie's Angels original aspect ratio, 1976-1981. "Full frame, as CHARLIE'S ANGELS was seen on television in the '70s and early '80s."
