  • In this video, I discuss the Trick 1 technique of Counting Losers when playing a suit contract. I then take you through a few hands and discuss how to think of "getting rid of losers." Like other videos in my beginner series, it's my goal to give beginners a technique to lean on as they learn this wonderful game.

Hi Eli, on the last hand you mentioned you may have 3 club losers, but as dummy has the Q of clubs would you not just count 2 losers?

I have 3 potential club losers! I will rewatch to see if I should have made that clearer..

Counting losers only applies when declarer has trump control and is planning to eventually draw trumps. The loser count has to be kept in mind, but declarer's main count is winners. This is especially true when playing for a scramble.

The more I play..the more I agree with you. Counting winners and losers is probably the best approach if you can manage your energy well. For beginners, counting losers and planning how to get rid of them seems an easier approach at first imo.

@@EliJolleyBridge In your example, declarer has a plethora of winners, so counting losers works well.

Why 3D and not just 2D ? And why have opponents not come in with Hearts - unlikely . And if the response was 2D I could rebid 2S and probably play there. Not impressed.
