I know it would be asking too much for caravans to be built really well. I mean, if you are spending 25-35K these days....
Looking forward to the Jackery video as I'm thinking of that sort of external rechargeable power source...

Mmmmm! If you're expecting the underfloor of a caravan to remain dry at all times then you'll have a big shock. Driving in rain sends spray under the van and it gets wet. Usually it dries off, as mentioned in the video, and no harm is done. The only time you need worry is if the edges of the van floor remain damp as it's constant damp the generates wood rot. There's also an oddity demonstrated in the video that water that runs down the walls somehow manages to work its way around the floor edge and permeate the underneath ply surface. That's a well known phenomenon and is the reason window sills have a groove along the bottom to interrupt the water doing that, causing it to drip off before it reaches the house wall. Unfortunately caravans don't have sills and can't have that sort of interruptor. I have heard of folk fitting thin strips of plastic along the floor edge so that they protrude below the floor and water drips off the edge of the plastic and doesn't creep up the back and onto the floor surface. I'd be concerned that the solution you mention are going way over the top and aren't really necessary unless the wood is spongey when dry, which indicates that its integrity is compromised. Messing about cutting out stuff leaves exposed edges that didn't exist before and can lead to worse problems later on. prevention of the problem in the first place would be a better way forward.

Sounds like your dealer is doing what they can. Nothing worse than finding damp in a van. Hope your dealer gets it sorted at the end of the Summer for you - Kim and Andy 😊

Ok. Cheers. Good to know, at least it's only underneath the van and not in it. Thanks for watching guys!

I'm shocked that you only got a 3 year warranty for water ingress! I though most new ish vans came with 10 year water ingress warranty like our 2021 coachman .
Sorry to hear of your problems and hope you get it sorted , it's when thing's go wrong that you find out how good your dealer is 😮

Hi yes I was shocked - you assume the 6 year body warranty cover's it, but that only covers the body, not seals. Yes I see your Coachman warranty is pretty good as long as you keep up with the servicing.
Thanks for watching & I hope your Coachman remains damp free!!!

You are the third Bailey owner I know of that has had damp and water leaks in their Van, we owned a 2015 Bailey Unicorn Cadiz from new that had a leak in the front locker it soaked the floor in the locker and under the fire wall by a foot into the van, dealer ship here in Scotland offered a replacement as the floor was ruined took us a year to realise the ruined floor as the caravan was stored on a site on the west coast of Scotland. We avoided another Bailey product and touch wood the replacement van ( Sprite Alpine 4)has been leak and problem free.

Hi thanks for watching - yes it's not great, but it's not only Baileys - as I'm sure you're aware, all makes have their issues, I see Coachman's warranty covers them for 10years including the seals which is pretty good, but they obviously factor that into the price.
Hope your sprite remains leak and problem free!!!

@@CaravanningwiththeMrs I did not know that I do not really know much about Caravans, I know we paid a lot of money for our Bailey and we expected a good caravan that would last us 6 maybe 10 years without any problems ours failed in a year which I feel is unacceptable, my son has a 33 year old Elddis Wisp light weight caravan he has owned for 11 years and its still dry as a bone never leaked and solid as ever his family use is few times a year, I feel older Caravans that do not have this fancy Alutech construction fair far better from what I have read I also do not think manufacturer's have as much pride in building their vans anymore they just throw them together and expect owners not to notice an leave the dealers to sort out the mess.

Hi You have a great taste in cars, I too have a Honda but a CRV and its brilliant but as for caravans !! Having enjoyed caravanning for the best part of 40 odd years a Bailey has never been on my wish list. They seemed to always have issues, serious front panel failures on the old Pageants and Senators and the Alutech system of construction that replaces the timber in the walls but when rots the wooden floor anyway I hope you get it all fixed once and for all but i doubt you'll be able to keep the old bits.

Yes, great cars, amazing engine! 70mpg & 300Nm torque! Bonkers!
I gather all caravans are just as bad, unfortunately.

There is a utube post about the leaks on the Bailey by someone in New Zealand, the problem is the rails along the bottom of the van that the coving clip / screw onto are not sealed properly and as the sides and floor are fitted flush together water penetrates the floor ,it seems a fairly easy fix but maybe a days work or so ,

    • @CaravanningwiththeMrs
      @CaravanningwiththeMrs  หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes I agree, but the dealer has ordered all new parts for all affected areas which I don't think is necessary, but it's all been approved by Bailey.

Need to check my Discovery, bought it at 7 months old in March … the only issue so far is the bathroom door doesn’t close properly, way out of line! How’s yours ?

Also to add baileys are the ones we get the least Ingress in. I can believe it about September where I work we are slammed on the damp side. Also I doubt you will be able to keep the old parts one as there bonded on so have to be cut off in peace’s also most manufacturers request a lot of old parts back for reasons I don’t know

I’ve got a Bailey and sure enough the floor gets wet underneath when it rains. Are they saying it’s down to something not being sealed?

Rumor has it that you are a TH-camr. Do you have a water ingress problem?
If yes, then you know the answer. If no, your question was quite pointless.
