Best winner ever on the show. My wife and I went to see him live in his tribute show in Auckland, New Zealand. I had managed to get the front two seats right in the centre of the front inner circle row under the stage....so close I could rest my feet on the stage. Gary put on a great performance, and he even grabbed the phone off the woman next to us and took a few photos of us. We even had a chance to talk to Gary before the show in the lounge bar - most people didn't even recognise him as he hadn't changed at that time. After about a ten-minute chat he said goodbye so he could go and get into costume. I am so pleased he has managed to do so well and make a career out of this. We got plenty of attention from Gary during the show.
Gary Mullen as Freddie Mercury is absolutely no question the best contestant that and champion Stars In Their Eyes has ever had and truthfully no one could and would ever top him or ever beat the record breaking amount of votes that he received
I saw him in a tribute show. I had my hand in a cast and couldn't clap to radio gaga. He pointed me out in the audience asking why I wasn't clapping. I raised my right wrist. He smiled and told the rest of the audience I was allowed to not clap. Lol
By far Gary Mullen is the best finalist and contestant that Stars in their eyes has ever had and truthfully no one has ever deserved to win it more than Gary
Seen Gary Mullen twice now both times he’s been great first time Bradford second time Skegness he definitely deserves to win star in there eyes without a doubt
Wow now 2024, this is the first time I've watched this since I watched it live in 2000 on tv, and feeling the same support and goosebumps for the Freddie tribute now as much as I did then. To this day the variety of most of these acts are still fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
The camera shots and music as Mullen walks to the stage just screams epic television. Joyous stuff. Talent shows pre-Cowell were so much better. As for Mullen himself - as near to flawless as you can get. You can see his life changing at 7.01.
Odd as on champion of champions Matthew said something like "as the great Freddie Mercury once said we are the champions and we'll keep on fighting until the very end".
Class nostalgic tears of pride for the legend that is Gary mullen as the biggest legend of all man a mind voting the twice man then down the horse shoe the next year lol class xx
Your just a twat for saying this just forget how amazing and how he moves because he doesn't have right ears or forehead what a way to look like a twat👍
Wait why didn't the end credits text roll when the episode ended? Also they didn't put the banner of the phone number to audition for the next season when the credits finish rolling
@@jaysanderson9638 I think he was brilliant but to say he was by FAR the best is a bit of a stretch cause Gary Mullen who did queen was amazing aswell.
Gary Mullen has to be the best Stars In Their Eyes winner ever. I remember watching the live grand final it 22 years ago. Like it was yesterday. The best live grand final ever.

As good as he might be, theres certain expects let him down
Gary Mullen as Freddie Mercury is absolutely no question the best contestant that and champion Stars In Their Eyes has ever had and truthfully no one could and would ever top him or ever beat the record breaking amount of votes that he received
TV will never be good like this ever again
I agree! I loved Saturday night tele growing up
864,838 votes! That has to be the biggest win by some margin.
I think even Matthew did a double-take when the numbers came up!
Gary Mullen so deserved this. By far the most memorable SITA winner, ever. Brilliant in every way.
Totally agree remember seeing when he went through to finals I was shocked he sounds like him moves like him brilliant 👏
Champion of champions was the Chris de Burgh, when the real Chris came out and duetted with him.
I miss having Matthew Kelly on TV. He was great. A bit camp with amazing charisma.
I do too as well as Jeremey Beadle and funnily enough Henry Kelly I quite liked them all.
my auntie who owned a Threshers in Margate reckons he's a dry af in real life :|
@@donraggo77 his rant with Frank Skinner suggests so.
I think he is the best they ever have had on there, Some close ones in the past, great to hear he is still rocking on 24 years later.
I totally agree spot on

He is awesome! See him every time they come around!
By far Gary Mullen is the best finalist and contestant that Stars in their eyes has ever had and truthfully no one has ever deserved to win it more than Gary
I went to see Gary Mullen last year in Bradford doing his queen act he really good even to this day hope he keeps the great show he’s been doing
Seen Gary Mullen twice now both times he’s been great first time Bradford second time Skegness he definitely deserves to win star in there eyes without a doubt
I closed my eyes and I would have beleived it was Freddie Mercury he was that good
That was THE BEST winner ever!
Amazing stuff….like Freddie came down and gave him his voice….amazing!

I’m so happy he won. He was extremely talented with so much loving spirit.
Now that was PROPER Saturday night telly!! Good, clean fun, loads of entertainment and a fantastic host. And Gary was absolutely sensational!
Do you have any idea how difficult, albeit impossible it is to replicate Freddie’s voice? Hats. Off.
One of the truly BEST finals EVER! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Y??

First time I've ever seen this...
Speechless!
And this guy has been touring for 24 years I don’t know how he does it
Still blows my mind that he’s actually singing this. Its so good that he looks like he’s lip syncing it
I mean perhaps he was lol. It's certainly suspicious that they sang the same song every time which also sounded identical every time 🧐😅
@@mrchico2621Nobody mimed on this show
@@sfinn85 Of course they lip-synch. They sing back to their own recorded voice for safety purposes.
@sfinn85 They literally all mimed to recording of themselves 😂
@@DameTremontisafety purposes? What safety?!
What a better time, pure joy!
Every one got stars in there eye ball ❤❤❤
Outstanding, so pleased he
won 👍💖👏
I remember my mother singing with him in the living room she passed away 3 years ago my birthday is 20/may rip my wonderful ma 🌹
Matthew should have had Gary sing Queen's "We Are The Champions" since he was the last man standing to win it all
Odd as on champion of champions Matthew said something like "as the great Freddie Mercury once said we are the champions and we'll keep on fighting until the very end".
He'll b a Glasgow legend forever put the horseshoe on the map lol if u see him advertised go to see it x
The fact that four of the ten finalists got 100,000+ votes just shows how talented this final was.
Matthew: "Before he hits the party, he's gotta hit the stage one last time."
Gary (in his head): "Oh shit!"
😂
I love the way it takes Gary a few seconds to register how many votes he'd gotten and all he cam manage is a silent "what?"
Well deserved. Outstanding performance ❤
And still to this day he performs as a tribute act to Freddie. Legend.
Amazen tribute singer to Freddie Mercury
We saw him in London in 2023 and he was still brilliant. A little bit 'fuller' in the frame than in 2020, but the voice is still amazing.
I've seen him 3 times , a good nite out.
I remember this. It was a tough choice between Freddie and Frankie.
Wow, Gary sounds and moves like Freddie! ❤🎉
the best winner EVER, he is Freddie incarnated
As far as impersonators go, untouchable. But Freddie incarnated? Nah..
Gary’s got some pipes on him
Freddie would be proud of u Gary well ✔️ done
Class nostalgic tears of pride for the legend that is Gary mullen as the biggest legend of all man a mind voting the twice man then down the horse shoe the next year lol class xx
Best all time winneer
Incredible voice
Joder este tipo se habra sentido unico y Freddy Mercury a la vez ese día 😅😊
There were a couple of extremely fabulous Marti Pellows on the show but no other contestant came close to Gary as Freddie.
He’s a superstar ❤
Even getting remotely close to Freddie is a massive ask.
Brilliant
Gray deserves all those points :)))))
Well deserved ❤
Freddy😮Perfect🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Have you got anymore of the 2000s heats
He was bril e ant
I remember Freddie Mercury having a different forehead and different ears.
Yeah the guy should’ve got reconstructive surgery before he came on 🙄🙄
@@snogglewort1 yeah I 100% agree
Your just a twat for saying this just forget how amazing and how he moves because he doesn't have right ears or forehead what a way to look like a twat👍
God that was a great show , nowt like it these days BGT absolutely shite. Great host with Mathew , much missed
Y’all did Lisa stansfield dirty there, she was second best behind Freddie by a mile!!! What the hell 😮
Frankie Valli was also excellent. I remember watching this as a kid.
Wait why didn't the end credits text roll when the episode ended?
Also they didn't put the banner of the phone number to audition for the next season when the credits finish rolling
You watched it too much
Frankie valli sounded good
This is incredible. Also, was that Chris De Burgh with the other contestants?
4:00
He deserved.
Check out the guy who done Peter Noone. He was amazing too
Gary is incredible....and so much better to listen to than Adam Lambert.
That’s a really good point, he should be doing lamberts part in that show!!!
He defo hitting them high notes freddie did power in his voice 2. I remeber this i though frank was gonna win.
12:16
Frankie Valli was equally tops for me.
Tash not quite right ? needs attention, I do not know if it is shape or colour?
Frankie Valli so much better. And Morton harkett. Although Freddie was great too
Frankie Valli was ROBBED!!!!!! He was by FAR the BEST contestant EVER on this show.
Explain how he was robbed? How can you say it was by far the best?
@@paulkelly1169 because he was the most accurate 1 plus he was the hardest to do. Also that's just imo.
@@jaysanderson9638 I think he was brilliant but to say he was by FAR the best is a bit of a stretch cause Gary Mullen who did queen was amazing aswell.
