I’ve been telling this to my young, RVH-obsessed goalies all the time. Now I have a video to show them- thanks Keeks!

The single best statement you said.. unless the shooter is about a STICK length away .. don't default to a RVH.

I feel like if you are standing up, players will try to bank it in off the back side of your leg. There's a much larger gap there for then to try that. And if you are anticipating a pass out, you might react incorrectly to the bad angle shot attempt.

Quick question. 2:42 in the video he plays the shot right and comes out outside of his paint and makes the good save but what if the shooter decides to wrap. He’s out fairly far and I it almost looks like it would be hard to get back to he’s blocker side post. So I was just wondering your thoughts About this. I love the video keep up the great content.

There is always a read to make. If there is significant help in front a wrap around attempt will still put that attacker in danger. It you over challenge too much it will also encourage the wrap. But think of it this way. If a man has time and space to wrap that is 100% crap D zone coverage. If a man #rvhfails you from a poor angle because you were afraid he MIGHT wrap, that is 100% on you the goalie. You have hit on the core issue with modern goalie coaches. They are teaching goalies to not read and trust what their teammates are doing and then shrug their shoulders when they get beat from the corner on a shit angle. “Just a great shot!” BS

@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA That makes more sense I like how you said it’s always your responsibility to have that shot and to make that save every time. And to also be able to make that read of when he’s gonna wrap.

#selfsponsored I say use the RVH if the puck is below the circle and within 1/2 the distance to the goal. My only issue with the overlap is getting beat backdoor because my outside leg gets caught on the post. I have also had some skilled shooter hit it off the back of my leg when standing next to the post.

You should never RVH when a man is outside a stick length.
People made saves on back door passes for the 90 years preceding the RVH. If you can’t get to back door passes with a slight overlap that is on you. I can pull up 100 clips of NHL goalies making backdoor saves staring from the overlap.
You have a better chance of seeing God than a non-NHL player consistently banking pucks off your overlap foot. The FAR more likely outcome when misusing the RVH is the endless shit goals seen every night in the highlights. They aren’t rare. If a goalie kept letting in long flippers I think they would figure it out. For some reason, whether mimicry or ill advised goalie coaching, goalies have just accepted shit RVH goals by shrugging their shoulders and acting like “oh well”. I actually love that goalies keep misusing the RVH. It provides me hours of entertainment. It is just like a guy who keeps stepping on a rake and can’t make the connection why his nose is bleeding.

@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA HAHA best reply ever coach.. I'm an old goalie from the 80s with the best of both worlds. Not only RVH but in my opinion unless you're 6'2"+ if you're constantly sitting in butterfly pushing around the crease you're misusing the butterfly also. The shooters and the sticks are all designed to pick the top shelf now and they do it with ease right up to 2' away from you now. We need a throw back to the hybrid days of stand up until you can't stand no more... thats just my humble $.02

in my op you should stay on your feet aslong as possible because its easier to go on your knees than to stand up, rvh gets overused anyways

butterfly is being misused now too the way the shooters and the sticks are all designed to pick off the top shelf at very close range

@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA for sure! It’s just goalie coaches don’t get as much shine as someone like Lundy does so the regular guy isn’t going to hear you preach it, but if someone like Lundy is saying that on a TNT broadcast more normies are going to get the info. All I know is that when guys at the top of the food chain like yourself or anyone above beer league says something, I’m going to listen.
