      I was thinking that's what this was. Someone really wanted the house but for some reason couldn't buy it. They did all this nonsense hoping that the family would leave and the value would drop so they could buy it themselves.

    If I ever became crazy rich, I would buy 657 boulevard, but never actually live there and live far away. I would put up a giant sign in the yard that says "The Watcher, you are a loser with no life." Thank You, I addressed this point under other similar comments as well. In my earlier videos, I used a US voiceover artist who is quite famous on Fiverr(Benkoschella) but it created a lot of work for me in the end to fix the mistakes that he would make in his narration. I have a German accent, and it took me some time to overcome the mental barrier of using my own voice. Gloria Ramirez(Toxic Lady) was the very first video with my own voice and I improved in the next ones.

  • @rosebud8043
    @rosebud8043 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +265

    I'm surprised they didn't just set up cameras to catch who was leaving the letters. Personally I don't think this thing is a scam, I can't see two parents going on with this and selling the home for a loss just to get some attention. I can totally see someone doing all of this because they were outbid, a woman did this a few years ago to a couple and even put up a fake Craigslist ad in hopes of perverts going to the house to assault the wife, some people are just crazy. Do I believe the house has been watched by the same family for decades over three generations? No, I think the watcher just made shit up to scare them. Another reason I think it's real is that if you go onto google maps the house is blurred out and you can't go past it on street view, it just skips that part of the map.

    • @kcbarbo78
      @kcbarbo78 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you also believe the “Amityville Horror House” is truly haunted and has green slime coming down the walls? Because it is also blurred out in Google Maps. It’s quite easy to get your house blurred out - You can do so simply for privacy reasons. You can do so for security reasons. You can do so because your house is associated with a famous crime/alleged crime/hoax and are tired of tourists showing up to gawk at it. Blurring out a house doesn’t suddenly render the hoax credible.

    I see no real proof that it could be them sending the letters to themselves.
    1. "Why didn't they put up cameras?" Just because us online nerds are quick to think of that, it doesn't that some random family is also quick to think of that. Also, if the mail was delivered through the postal service, then all it would show would be the post being delivered like normal.
    2. "Why did they continue to renovate?" Maybe they hoped that it would stop and they could eventually move in? If it was them, why would they renovate at all? And if it was them, why would they continue to show the letters to the potential buyers? All it did was prevent basically anyone from wanting to buy the place.
    3. "Why did Derek send the imitation letters?" Sometimes people do stupid things, and he likely got mad at his neighbors response and found a creative way of responding.
    4. "How would a neighbor know all these details?" By stalking them, by acting neighborly and talking to them, etc. The details in the letters is information that can be gained from the internet, stalking the house, talking to the homeowners (pretending to be a nice neighbor), talking to the contractors, etc.

    I think the answer was presented when the narrator pointed out the lack of logical steps taken to catch the alleged letter writer. Why indeed were no security cameras fixed on the mailbox, etc? This was a hoax perpetrated by the owners. Anyone with a library card can learn how to write in a mannered, artificial, overly literary way, as the letter writer in this case did. It doesn’t indicate an older person so much as someone who can read and mimic the style of a dramatic, rather theatrical writer. And then the husband admitted to writing similar letters? Uh, yeah. The only mystery is why they did this. The neighbors dodged a bullet by the fact that these rather unhinged people didn’t move into the house, that whatever scheme they were attempting ended up failing.

      You're not the only commenter that asked this which i find, honestly, a little baffling. The whole point of the postal system is that you can send a letter anywhere you want,. Just drop it in your (or a public) mailbox and the mail-carrier will deliver it for you.

    • @kcbarbo78

      @@TheEloheimseems logical enough. Did they learn anything about the letters’ origins from the postmarking, etc? Where they were mailed from, whether postage on the letters was metered (which in itself can reveal some significant information), etc? I got the impression the letters were placed by the writer in the mailbox, but certainly using USPS would be less risky. Surely, however, a family so fearful of being harmed would install a robust security system, including cameras and alarms, to deter whoever wrote these silly letters from trespassing onto their property?

    I find it weird that so many people request putting cameras at the mailbox.
    1) There's no guarantee that the perpetrator is putting the letters in there themselves, they could be posting them from the post office, in which case all you'd catch is the mail man. There's a chance you could catch someone, but it's not a guarantee.
    2) If we assume for a moment the watcher is real and not a hoax, and knows so much, you'd expect they'd know about installed cameras and know to avoid them.
    So yes putting cameras may have caught some suspicious activity or it may not have, but using the fact they didn't install any as "proof" that it's a hoax is a bit of a step.

    Another excellent video, wow your channel and content are very good and stand out from other true crime channels. In this case of 657 Boulevard, I'd assume that for the family (Derek or Maria Broaddus) to have staged the thing themselves, they would have had to have stuck to an iron and far-fetched scam. It would have been surprising, given that they pulled it off then and never left fingerprints or DNA behind to bust themselves. Although they could have of course blamed this on simply 'having read' the letters. That typewriter was also never found and their kids also never spoke up about seeing one or the other parent sweating over an old typewriter? And if those letters were handwritten, a specialist would surely have been able to find similar style writings in their house, you'd think. The only thing that lingers a bit is the letters which Derek sent later to critics of Maria under the alias 'Friends of the Broaddus family'. But I would want to know here if 'similar style' meant a generally similar style? Or if he wrote forensically tested similar? I suspect the former. Because writing consistently in an outdated style is very difficult. I can tell because I am a writer. Unless someone truly studied the lingo of a long gone era, they will make mistakes. And apparently the Watchers letters were very consistent in that sense. So my bets are on a neighbour. Maybe not their direct neighbours, but a neighbour living in the bigger circle. Someone attached to this house indeed, with a childhood memory of this house and a deep-seeted hatred of changes being made to the house. Older people can resist changes in general and although bizarre, this scenario seems more logical than a big scam by the family themselves. They would have all had to be top-notch actors then, with a superb eye for detail and planning, given how even the workman were witnesses of the fall-out these letters caused. And a young family with 3 kids? You'd think they would have different things on their mind than to make themselves famous over their own Amityville Horror-type of house. Besides, the house seemed to have been lovely! They could have just resold it without problem, without all the media fuss. And signing the rights to Netflix.. not sure that was the blockbuster breakthrough they had hoped for. I myself (not an American) have never heard of this Netflix series before.. In any case, you cover very interesting and mysterious cases. I don't think this following mysterious case fits into your 'portfolio', but maybe you find it an interesting read. I don't see how setting up high quality outdoor cameras can't mostly solve this issue. As the letters did not have a sender's address they would not have been posted, so the only way the letters could arrive in the mailbox is a random walking up to it.
    Even move the letter box closer to the front of the house so more cameras can get better footage. Heck, after moving the letter box closer to the home, why not also then erect 2 poles either side of the letter box and then put high quality motion cameras on them, facing each other so they won't be set off by someone walking along the front footpath - so there will be half a dozen cameras. Organise with the local postal service to have all mail to this address redirected elsewhere (the parent's home) and never have anything mailed to the Boulevard address. Maybe buy a dog for the family and keep it mostly out the front (seems the house had a nice front porch) with a leash long enough so it can reach the letter box but not much further. Erect a front fence with a bell and/or warning noise when the gate is opened. I'm sure even back in 2014 could have the alarm system sound in the house or via an app on your phone.
    Point is there are so many steps which can be taken to make it very difficult for the Watcher to get to the letter box without some warning and significant video footage being taken of them.
    I think this is faked somehow by the father.

    How could the investigators not catch anyone watching the house ever. That seems the most logical thing to do. Either physically or with cctv. Hidden cameras placed towards the street. The letters stated they had been watching for decades...but they started right before the sale of the home?
    smells like a scam to me. I mean, someone can get all that info about you and your family...and you don't notice at all? never see the same face all over town? never catch someone parked outside? Never once catch the letter placer putting the letter there?
    ....its too perfect of a 'crime' for me to believe its real.

    What about the mailman? Would be someone who would see the house and its residents up close daily, someone who could drop the letters in the mailbox among the rest of the mail without drawing any suspicion onto themself, and so on…

    Always reminds me of the circleville letters! They even mixed both cases for the show or movie forget which one it is! I always thought maybe it was one of there friends in there circle who were jealous of them or something!

    Had to be a close neighbour. The family almost went broke because of it and why did the last people really move out? Maybe mr shmit from next door, he had all the time in the world to watch and listen to them also the "look behind you" might be hinting that its from the house behind theirs

    If it was me, I wouldn't even have bothered to open the letter. Would have just threw it around.
