"Just a few years ago". His last meme video was in September 2014, so almost 6 years ago. That's more than half a decade, that's more than few years ago imo.
The security on planes before 9/11 was absolutely ridiculous. This man bought a ticket with a fake name, smoked cigars on the plane and carried a briefcase with TNT sticks inside. Absolutely wild
Cigarettes. The brands was Raleigh filters. Raleighs were a mass market brand just like Camels or Winstons. Some people seem to think that it was an exotic brand. It wasn't but its market position was upscale male. Executives and secret agents smoked Raleighs. Major security measures came in long before the 9-11 attack. Passenger screening as it exists today was not started until after 2001 though. The red sticks in the attache case were designed to look like dynamite. It is widely believed that Cooper's bomb was fake. It is assumed that the name he purchased the ticket under, Dan Cooper, was fake but strictly speaking no absolute proof of that. You seriously need to eat your Wheaties.
My Grandfather was a state trooper in Oregon at the time this occurred he participated in the search and described it as "looking for a needle in a haystack, in a field of haystacks, and we had no f***ing hint as to which haystack to begin with."
Only problem I see is that Smith's nose doesn't look nearly anything like the sketch at all. It's completely different, from the nose's size to the angle it's pointing down at. Otherwise he has a good resemblance to the sketch.
Now I know why I like this man a lot. Not just because of the stories he tells, or research he does. But of his dark theme art style. It's like toggling dark theme for the video itself. Something I really enjoy.
One of the craziest things is that the plane was actually being tailed by at least 5 other planes and no one seems to have seen him jump either. It's also very interesting how calm he was. It was described that he was calm, well-spoken, even paid his drink tab, offered the flight attendant the change and even showed said flight attendant the bomb when she asked. He even offered to also request food for everyone in case they were hungry, it's like he actively tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible because his issue was not with any of them.
Living in the EXACT area where DB cooper did everything, is really special to me for some reason, Im not sure why, but he holds such resembalence to everyone in Portland that they are drinks, meals, and more named about him. Amazing video!

@@Asian2706 You watched too many movies. There is no such thing in real life, people jump off of planes at that height all the time and there's no such thing as the pressure forcing you out of the plane. Now if you're in space then sure, that's a thing but not on a plane.
@@giantWario This is real life, yes, and so logic and science alike applies here. What you just said contradicted what this person said. Right? This person said the guy hid on the plane for a long while assuming the opening door point was 10 minutes into the flight, the man would’ve had to cling on the plane while the door was open for a whole hour. You said people fall off the plane at these heights while the door was open which was common sense and didn’t need to be stated. The problem is with this dudes logic is that in order for the dude to hide in the plane with the door open for a whole hour, this dude would need like 50,000 PSI of grip strength constantly applied for an hour, which is humanly impossible, and no matter what scenario you’re in, the movies or in real life, the pressure of air at high altitudes and speeds are undeniable. Don’t try to assume some common sense onto me if it wasn’t needed in the first place. What you said has no relevance to the topic, you’re response is trying to persuade me how a dude that old can just seemingly apply that much grip strength onto some object for that long of time, explain that to me. Even in movies you can’t replicate that kind of common sense, so you have to explain
@@Asian2706 ...what the hell are you on about? Did you even watch the video? It wasn't a door, it was stairs and he didn't need to ''hold on to them'' or ''cling to the plane'' at all. He could have just opened them and then calmly gone back to his seat. What kind of wacky scenario have you made up in your head instead of just listening to the video you're commenting on?
@@giantWario Doesn't matter, do you know how a plane works? What do we use stairs for, huh? We use stairs to descend down a level of something, and how many levels are on a plane? One! Ah, you've finally cleared your head. And what is that stairs for? Have you've ever been on a plane? If you haven't, I can't blame you, and it's fine if you haven't been on a plane, but it's not an excuse for you that you've forgotten that a plane uses stairs to allow passengers to descend down OUT OF THE PLANE to arrive at a destination. In order for cooper to use the stairs, he must OPEN AN EXIT OUT OF THE PLANE TO ACCESS THE STAIRWAY, and wouldn't you know, he did just that, and of course physics did its job and throbbed him outta the plane. I need all this scenario to explain all these things to you so that you understand the situation, otherwise if you use your that noggin of yours to work out real-life situations, that noggin wouldn't be the best tool to depend on for survival huh? So maybe this is why you haven't been on planes, you don't know how they operate and you're afraid that maybe if you do something on a plane, you could risk your life maybe, so allow me to explain some basic knowledge to you so that your head doesn't cost that heart of yours, you understand now? If you open an exit OUT OF A PLANE, as long as its leads OUT OF THE PLANE, it is subjected to what we call AIR PRESSURE, when something is at high altitudes flying at a constant velocity, there's this thing called LAW OF INTERTIA, got that, LAW OF INTERTIA pertaining to the G acceleration of earth's gravity. You can't just open a god damn exit out of the plane and expect nothing to happen, you try to stick your hand out the window of a plane and see what happens to those wrist bones huh?
I'm here too, going to point out the first national bank (currently safeco plaza) to people now. Also crazy I've taken off on the same tarmac as Dan multiple times.

One thing I find rather hilarious in this case was just how seemingly kind and respectful Cooper was. The fact that whilst seemingly planning his daring escape he was just casually having a conversation with Mucklow is quite amusing and rather charming. On the Wikipedia page about the case it states that Mucklow jokingly asked for a part of the ransom money which Cooper laughed at and handed over a wad of cash to her. She declined due to company policy but it's still funny to me. Cooper even offered Mucklow a cigarette as he asked her about where she was from. She stated that not once was he threatening or cruel to anyone on board, just calm and respectful. Cooper is a hijacker with class.

Cigars were okay back then, so that is not a problem

One of the craziest things is that the plane was actually being tailed by at least 5 other planes and no one seems to have seen him jump either.
It's also very interesting how calm he was. It was described that he was calm, well-spoken, even paid his drink tab, offered the flight attendant the change and even showed said flight attendant the bomb when she asked. He even offered to also request food for everyone in case they were hungry, it's like he actively tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible because his issue was not with any of them.

Impossible, cause if the door was found open, the amount of air pressure oscillation would’ve for sure forced him out of the plane
