This is a great video and that's a pretty significant upgrade! I kinda did a similar thing I just got me a 1975 Massey Fergusson 245 with the continental gas engine upgraded from my 1947 Ford 2N. I love the Massey hell of a lot more powerful.
That's a very good tractor those small Massey tractors are second to none I've seen those things pulling more than 5 tons of oranges without breaking a sweat it's a new version of the 135 mf the King of the under 50 hp tractors
You made yourself a fine purchase there buddy. I know a lot of information on the 231 if you have any questions. I also have all the manuals (parts, service, owner’s). Mine is a 1998 model with 1400 hours. Owned it for 11 years and it’s been EXCELLENT. I know 4 other people in my area who own a 231 and one is a ‘96 model like yours.
Ray Hege the 231 was in production for 10 years, from 1989-1999. They were made by URSUS (tractor manufacturer) in Poland. The flat top fenders were early production models and the shell type fenders were later production models. The shell type fenders came out around 1996. There were some differences in the models but nothing real major. The 231 had 3 different power steering pumps during its production run and the early models had blinkers. There were some other minor things but nothing extreme. All have the near bulletproof 3 cylinder Perkins AD3.152 diesel engine. 38 engine horsepower, 34 P.T.O. horsepower. The 231 has an incredible power to weight ratio. Very strong and reliable. EXCELLENT TRACTORS!

Travis Ricks, do you know what can cause the steering column to have lot of free play?. I can turn the steering wheel around 100 degrees before the steering actually engages.
How is that 231 doing?! Mine is running perfect other than me snapping off a power steering fitting the other day in some heavy brush. I got the fitting, just gotta put it on.
Man PLEASE make sure your coolant is full and your cooling system is in good working order and the fan belt is tight. My 1998 MF231 just blew the head gasket and I’m SICK over it. Not sure why it happened yet. Got to tear into it.

Funny you say that, at the time I didn't have the camera running. I was stopped way before hitting the box turtle. It was actually trying to hide under the tractor wheel. I am very glad I didn't hurt it and I have managed to see and save hundreds or them while I was working in the fields

Is there any difference between the 231. some have square fenders and some Round fenders. Not the 231S. Just the 231. ?

I just got mine and I'm working on a huge free play in the steering wheel. Other than that, seems to be rock solid.
I would try checking the power steering fluid.

What gear you in is that 6 5 bush hog
I tend to use 3 low in thick fields and 4 low in lighter fields. The mower is 6 feet.

I got mine and the bush hog for 6k. My guess, one will run about 5 to 6k if it is in good shape. But that is my guess. They are great tractors.
