Capital One has a strict rule where you can only get 1 Capital One card every six months. Definitely wait at least six months after getting approved for a Capital One card before applying for another. 18 cards might be pushing it too with Capital One. Have a low amount of inquiries and hard pulls before applying for a Capital One card. Answer "Sometimes" for the question on if you carry a balance whether you carry a balance or not.
Man I was reliving my exact experience with Capital One through this video. Agree with all your takeaways, also those analogies cracked me up. Awesome video Chase!
Their pre-approval tool for the venture x card also couldn't pre-approve me for the exact same reasons as your denial/letter. I did it 5 times within the past two months and just a few days ago I ran the preapproval tool again and they finally approved me and went on to actually apply and was approved too. Not all hope is lost, just milk their reapproval tool for the venture x till they approve you lol.
To be honest chase, you probably should have waited to apply until your inquiries fell off your credit report. Every single inquiry stays there for two years unless you call experian, equifax to dispute. Just like they said, opening too many new credit accounts in a year is basically another type of inquiry. Banks love to lend when they dont think you need it.
I do believe the 6 months waiting period between Capital One cards is pretty much a hard fast rule. I would have waited 6 months and then tried the pre-approval tool then to see if you would have been approved for the Savor One with the SUB. You were pre-approved for the Savor One with Good Credit though so I think you have a good chance of getting approved for the SUB Savor One if you wait it out for just a little bit longer.
Wow.. My bankruptcy discharged back in August this year. I had burned capital one for 10,000 dollars. Just got the pre approval for for a savor card today. Got a 5,000 CL….
A lot of us have/ had the same problem. I picked up the Savor One recently without the SUB because I needed an international travel set up due to Amex’s non-acceptance outside of the US. Waited a year and a half testing to see if I could get the SUB and was never pre approved so I just pulled the trigger without the SUB.
Im trying the strategy for getting a credit limit increase from the measly 300 dollar credit limit they started me with. If not I will close the card. It was a waste for 3 inquiries.
This sounds great if you want to downgrade a Venture or Venture X card to a Savor One card. I have both the Venture and Venture X cards and will be downgrading my Venture Card to the Savor One when my time to renew my AF comes around.
I recommendation is put most of your spend on your Venture X for the next 3-6 months then try the pre approval again. Capital One already see you as a excellent tier credit level customer since you already have the Venture X.
I’ve also heard others say to never select that you’re self-employed. Try it again but select “employed” instead. Also, I’m glad I started off my credit card game with capital one first instead of chase. They really seem to prefer newer customers. Got approved for the S1 right away, and got pre-approved for the VX about 4 months later. I only have the S1 and CSP (I got it second cause of the recent elevated bonus). I’m waiting to officially apply for the VX in a few weeks when I’m expecting a large payment. Or sooner if they elevate the SUB.
On the approval tool, I am only approved for secured cards. My oldest card is a Venture One and my highest limit card is with my Venture X. I think having a strong profile and cards already hurts me.
For me getting amex is harder then getting a Captial card lol, opened a checking with them and could also be why they approved me for the student version Savor One. Spend 100 to get 50 in return which isn't bad considering my first sign up bonus.
Hello from Oregon, I know this is night and day. But I got a credit line decrease from Care Credit, Synchrony bank. $800, for two years now, on time w/ a low balance. Paid in full and went from $800 now to $250? This card was for my dog. So frustrating. No reason either, not even an email. Thank you for the video.
I was pre approved for the venture X a few months ago. When I tried again last week, it didn’t pop up as one I was pre approved cards. I applied anyway and got approved!
At least you got the VX, I got denied, and from the information from the pre-approval tool and other data I will never get approved for the VX,thus, I'm focusing my spend on Chase and AMEX with a little Bilt.
So you essentially wanted the sign on bonus points right? Also how do you have 18 credit cards? Someone I know who works at a bank said the max you can have before getting denied is 5.

I already have a Venture X. I just applied for the Venture because of the welcome offer, and I will downgrade that card after a year, which will help me never have another hard pull from Capital One.

I got approved for the Amex Gold and C1 Savor One for good credit at the same time. I'm okay with that because I'm test driving the Amex Gold for a year or two. And based on my application route, I'd be locking myself out of C1 if I waited much longer. No pressure to hit a spending bonus on the C1 while I work on that Amex welcome offer for the next 6 months. Also I wanted the Savor One badly because I live literally right next to a C1 Cafe so now my coffee spending is cut in half for $0 annual fee.

Exactly. The regular Savor One card requires “Excellent Credit”, not “Good Credit” and it’s listed on their website
sounds like he didnt really look at Capital One's site before making the video. Kind of just... jumped to conclusions based on missing information.
I'll be honest. I totally forgot that Capital One has 12 different versions of each card all named the same thing. It did not cross my mind at all.
