  • There's no way better in getting to know a new vehicle than to take it on a long road trip. On this video, I take the latest Toyota Highlander Hybrid up and down the mountains to the Central Okanagan. If you want to know what the new 4 cylinder hybrid is like and what kind of real world mileage we achieve, make sure to watch this one.

    Thank for your post. Your test was exactly what I was searching for to see if the hybrid is worth getting vs V6. I love the fact that your trip included climbing the mountain and driving at speeds that I normally drive rather than babying the gas pedal to get the high numbers which is probably how Toyota test it. Thanks for commenting the way the 4 cylinder / electric motor can climb the mountain without struggling. I was a little skeptical when Toyota change hybrid V6 to hybrid 4 cyclinder.

    Thanks for this very extensive and useful review. The Highlander Hybrid is certainly the one to buy in this segment as its potential efficiency puts everything else to shame. As an aside, am I the only one who has noticed the supreme paradox of our greenest Province having the highest speed limits? Any vehicle driving at 120 kmh is burning about 20% more fuel than it would at 100 kmh. It is astonishing how obvious measures to reduce C02 are ignored.

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rightlanehog3151 Yes, speed limits should be no higher than 100 km/hr (62 mph). There is virtually no savings going faster because anytime gained is waisted refueling and/or recharging. We need a worldwide speed limit of 100 km/hr and all countries should be required to use SI units.

    • @rightlanehog3151
      @rightlanehog3151 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-tb7rn1il3q Thanks for reading my comment. I am old enough to remember the "Energy Crisis" of the early 1970s. With a severe shortage of oil, the USA instituted a national 55 mph (90kmh) speed limit as an emergency measure to reduce gasoline consumption. That was done by a Republican President. Today we have a world wide climate crisis and it seems NOBODY is talking about grabbing a FREE 20% boost in highway fuel efficiency by posting and actually enforcing lower speeds. It is also demonstrably safer to drive slower which reminds me of the 70s slogan "55 Saves Lives".

The one question is can it climb mount washington. I will try with the 6 cylinder 6 speed. I drove the 8 speed loaner and did not like it. Then in the long future try with hybrid. Just traded the wife's 2013 HH Limited awd yesterday for a 2021 HH Platinum awd and will take delivery Sat. We put 150k miles on the 2013 and honestly could have kept it and easily doubled that mileage. The only issue in 7 years/150k miles was a driver side door lock actuator covered under warranty and in 2020 the check hybrid system came on. Quick fix was simply hooking ctek batt charger to 12v terminal and charging overnight. Never saw the warning again prior to yesterday's trade in appraisal of $10,800.

    What no one seems to point out is that hybrids need serious repairs to the hybrid system when they get 10-12 years old, eliminating any gas savings to date. Hybrids have a generator rather than an alternator and when the generator goes, that’s $5,000+. Instead a well maintained Toyota should run for 20+ years.
